    TFLEV just posted a trip through the Rockie Mountains with a Tesla 3, Chevy Bolt, Volvo ev, and Kia ev. The Volvo went dead, and the Kia battery was next. The Tesla and Bolt completed the whole trip and the Tesla had 42 miles remaining and the Bolt had 43 miles remaining. The regenerative braking was superior on the Bolt over the others and that helped making the Bolt the winner. Before they started the trip all 4 drivers thought the Bolt would finish 3rd or 4th but the end result was a surprise to all of them!

    having lived in Vegas with a 2019 Bolt for 2 years, I can tell you that FINDING a non-Tesla EV charger near the strip is a no-go. You need to either carry a Tesla adapter and pay to use their stations or use Plugshare to find the surrounding residential-area gas stations and restaurants that have EVGo or ChargePoint unitsl. Terrible's, the prominent gas chain in the area, is in the process of installing L3 chargers, with 1 being close to the football stadium, but as of TODAY, you have to go 15-20 minutes away from the typical tourist area to charge. I rented a 2023 Bolt EUV over Thanksgiving weekend and relived the "where the hell to charge away from home" adventure. I eventually found a bar&grill south of town and knocked back a (single) brew and ate some chicky nuggies while I waited on the charge before I turned it back in.

    Great video! I bought a 2023 black bolt redline and picked it up on August 12, 2022. Loved it so much ordered a second silver one. Picked it up last week. Amazing car!!!

    Funny...we own a Mach-E and considered this as a second car as well. Although we would have saved some dough and gone with an EV 2LT with Infotainment and Adaptive Cruise options. We mostly love the size (the Mrs. thinks the Mach-E is just a little big to be a "her car"), but range-per-dollar is hard to beat...it could have easily covered her commute (at the time) for a week or more. And it had all the tech would would want or need. So why didn't we get one? ...well we now both work from home and simply don't need another car. But if that changes, this goes to the top of the list.

    Great review! It's good to hear someone talk about the fact that a 0-60 of 6 seconds is plenty for what you need in normal driving. As if 3.5 seconds was required for an EV to show its face... I'm not a small car person, but I want to test drive an EUV to see what it's like so I can form my opinion based on actual experience rather than preconceptions. Like you said, though, the ADMs are not cool!

    I have a 2022 Bolt EUV Premier. The only option that I am missing is Super Cruise which I didn't want because I wouldn't trust it anyhow. Mine was manufactured in July of 2022 and delivered by the end of the month. I absolutely love the little car. After 15 years of Toyota hybrids I didn't think that I would ever own a domestic car. My research proved me wrong.

    GM Promised and has yet to delivery Ultium EVs. I am beginning to think the Bolt will be their only one for years to come. I have heard it will be ended after the Ultium models are out for a year or two, but it has become a great EV over many model years of improvements. 20k of them were sold in Q1`23. The fan base is real. The red line one looks really sweet too. Thx for the vid. I enjoyed watching.

      Let all the badge whores pay the extra money for the name. I’ll go for the best car for the buck. The looks of the Bolts aren’t too shabby either. Unfortunately, GM is seeing the profit and will be discontinuing the Bolts for more expensive production EVs very soon. Grab one while you can get them!

    First EV love it by the way the gauge to the right of the driver screen measures in quarters like a gas gauge. I find it's really easy to tell when it needs a charge just looking at that gauge don't need to know the percentage number.

    We have a 2022 LT2 Bolt. I put 10,000 miles on it and love it. The range estimator is fairly accurate. I love the fact it shows you the expect, the minimum and maximum you can expect and it shows which way you are tending. The volume control on the steering wheel if you press and hold it will change the volume control without having to press it repeatedly. The heated seats and steering wheel are great. They have an auto setting where they will turn on automatically depending on the temperature. You might not need that in South California but in South Dakota it's a very nice feature. I would highly recommend the car. The fast DC charging speed is pretty low so not the best long distance EV, but if you only take a few long distance trips or is doable.

    We love our EUV. This weekend, we took our first "trip." Only 150 miles or so. We made it on one charge. Good thing, Charge Point wouldn't connect. We made a major mistake installing our home charger that I'd like to caution other new owners about. Our local utility provided a $1000 rebate if we installed a hard-wired unit with its own separate meter. That way, they said, we would pay only 7 cents/kWh. But because the Bolt EUV is so efficient and we have just one car to charge, we're actually paying more than just hooking into our regular household electricity because of extra metering fees!

  • @danno180

    Just bought our EUV Premier today with Sun and Sound package and it was $35,800. The dealer then applied the $7,500 rebate to the cars price dropping it to $28,300 + $1,800 tax so that was nice.

  • @friedputty

    Percentage is shown on the display, just visually instead of as a number: exactly like a gas car's fuel gauge, each big white line marks off 25%. And within that, each green bar represents 5%. It's easy-peasy to understand intuitively at a glance.
    Chevy also adds range predictions on the gauge. As you noted, the mileage number in the middle is your likely range, the number at the bottom is your worst case range, and the number at the top is your best case range (given current conditions). In addition, there's a line that will curve up or down on the left side of the gauge to show you if you're trending toward the best or worst number at the moment. Pretty neat.

    I am looking at a Bolt EUV for a second car. You did an excellent job of explaining the pros and cons of the vehicle. One thing I was surprised that you didn't cover was the streaming rear-view mirror. It was definitely equipped with it, if it had Super Cruise.

  • @bryanlangworthy
    @bryanlangworthy Рік тому +5

    Very nice review. I don’t get having SuperCruise on a car that has such terrible DCFC speeds. It’s like GM is saying ‘easy cruising and brutal charging’. GM really missed an opportunity here. Even if it charged at 75 kW continuous that would almost be acceptable. I get reusing the existing hardware for cost savings, but it’s a huge miss.

    I live on the East Coast. The distances are shorter and go to New York from Philadelphia back basically in one charge. The same for Washington DC, Baltimore, the Jersey shore, so I don’t wanna for me to go a distance where I know what happened to the Pocono mountains if I want to go. I’d have to travel to. Let’s say Pittsburgh, Newport News, Virginia then I start needing to do a lot of charging and planning, but in the Northeast we’re distances are shorter. You can take what we call a road trip and maybe not have to charge it till you get back home

The website for the rebate here said that it can count as a new car under 7,500 miles and returned to dealer quickly. Anything else I need to know? Thanks!

    • @netmaster88
      @netmaster88 11 місяців тому

      @LifeHacksbyStacy i would check with a tax person. I'm not trying to be all lame here and not answer, but I don't want to give the wrong answer because there are so many stipulations. The car itself qualifies, but there are different rules for new vs. used vs. price paid, etc. It was a little lame that when i checked, 3 of the california programs were already closed from other people claiming out the money. They should have funded it for every qualifying person. But if you qualify youll still get the momey back on your state income tax. If turbo tax doesnt have a section for this them we are going to have to find someone who knows how to do the taxes correctly.

I think that we really don’t know because all the stuff is new and you don’t need to test it. I didn’t ride a car cause I drive a lot of miles. I bought it because I was replacing my Prius and I found out it was a plus so driving electric the fumes are gone. Which I absolutely love.

    Range is because if you have a flat roads, no wind down, you’ll get the greater range but if you’re going up and down hills, a lot of wind cold etc. You will get less. But with the the regeneration you might get right in the middle.

    What are you guys talking about with a headroom? I'm 6'1 and my head is nowhere near the ceiling. I find this car to be especially roomy inside. It looked fairly large until it's parked mixed to another SUV. Then it looks small. But compared to my previous Ford sedan, even though the dimensions are almost exactly the same, this car seems larger because it's taller. Again that's why it killed me that you talk about the headroom. Even though you sit much higher, which I love. I hated getting down into my Ford. Now I go up slightly to get into this car. But even though I'm going up some, I am not having any problems getting my head into the car. In my Ford, I would almost break my neck getting in. No problem with the EUV.

    • @ziploc2000

      Some people have long legs, some have long bodies. Two people of the same height can have quite different headroom when sitting.
      Really you have to get in the car and test it for yourself, which I hope anyone buying any car would do anyway.

    And where I live it if you charge on the weekend Friday evening Saturday, Sunday Monday it is the cheapest. So if my car is down to 20% and I charge it all the way up cost me about eight dollars in electricity. If I wait and charge it during the week it’ll be $12-$16 for the same amount of charge especially if I do it during the day.

    I have a 1 way 800 mi trip that I take 4 times a year. In a gas car, I can do this in 12 to 13 hrs so it is a 1 day trip. Even the best fast charging EV makes this become 2 day trip, so a Hybrid vehicle is a better long range vehicle for the moment. We are just buying an EUV for our "city" errand vehicle. Top it off every night to 80% and it can do everything we need with the least fuss to include eliminating the vehicle maintenance (which is higher for a stop and go vehicle).

    • @friedputty
      @friedputty 11 місяців тому

      It's got more rear legroom but less rear headroom (especially with the optional sunroof), less rear shoulder room, and the same cargo room compared to the regular Bolt EV because all they did was add three inches to the wheelbase and three inches to the hood. So you're right: unless you like to throw your cargo on the floor of the second row or have a dog who likes to lie there, it's not really roomier, it's more about making the car look more like a mini SUV instead of a Honda Fit. The bummer is that some of the cool features are only available in the EUV: if you want the camera mirror, you can't get it in the EV anymore, and there's no option for a sunroof or Supercruise in the EV. Another bummer is that only the EV has aluminum body panels; they are steel in the EUV, which costs you 12 miles of range and 0.5 seconds to 60 vs the EV. So I'm in the weird situation where I'd honestly prefer to buy another Bolt EV -- a less expensive, better packaged, technically superior vehicle -- yet I'm about to make the dubious upgrade to the EUV to get the cool features. And TBH, my dog lie on the second row floor, so I suppose it is in fact roomier for her, LOL.

    • @johncipolletti5611
      @johncipolletti5611 11 місяців тому +1

      @friedputty On the EV, the rear camera is the brightest picture I have ever seen. Oh, I am not crazy about sun/moon roofs. Oh, and be careful about any vehicle, including a Tesla, holding you in your lane. Faded lanes or ones snow-covered ones can be a problem.

    • @ziploc2000
      @ziploc2000 12 днів тому

      That's my impression. It's bigger on the outside, but not so much on the inside. More legroom but less headroom in the back, but I can adjust my leg placement a lot easier than my head placement.
