I was there! Forrest Inn and the Southside Womans Club. Forrest Inn was on Sundays until it burned down.

Correction: This was one of the Jacksonville jams that led to the formation of the Allman Brothers. The was Dickey, Duane, Jaimoe, Butch, Richard (Hombre) Price and Reese Wynans, who went on later to play with Stevie Ray Vaughn. This is historical stuff right here!

Looks like the Southside Womens club - 1968 or 69 - after the Forest Inn Burned -- no one could dance to this so most of the folks walked out. I fell in love! I was there -

Saw The Second Coming at the Southside Womans Club Jacksonville Florida 1969 almost everyone walked out because they could not dance to the music.

This is indeed some historically important audio captured here. That is a cool transistion at 3:17-3:22 . Richard 'Hombre' Price has a website that is a treasure trove of old photos from this era. Richard is a bit of a historian about this formative period in the southern rock scene. He'd probably be happy to answer any question if you drop him a line. Check out his website at Richardhombreprice. com I also have a few videos of Hombre gigging with one of his bands on my UA-cam Channel

I heard recently that the line in the song "Rock and Roll Hootchie Coo", where Rick Derringer refers to a band called The Jokers, was about Derringer being blown away by an early Dickey Betts band by that name!

That is obviously Dickey on vocals...and on guitar too.

@fhrussell They did some shows before Gregg showed up as The Second Coming because Dickey and Berry Oakely was in that band together and it had become a popular band in Jacksonville, Fla. The big jam that convinced Duane to have a six piece rather than three was w/ Dickey, Butch, Jaimoe, Duane,Berry and Reese Wynans. Later they called Gregg in California because he could sing. The March 29 james was offical beginning of ABB with Gregg there.

    Cont part 4 "
Berry and I traded basses all night in these jams. The members of the LOAD were, Richard Price (me), Larry Reinhardt, & Monty Young. So it is true that Larry is on some of these jams. "

@fhrussell But even on March 29, 1969 they had not named it The Allman Brothers. Butch Trucks said they were looking for a so-called "band" name which would not be the name of any member, but their manager insisted they call it The Allman Brothers because when he (Phil Walden) bought Duane's contract, he was a rather famous session player and Phil thought having Duane's name on the band would help sell it. I think Allman Act came first then ABB.

this has Dickey singing as well as playing lead guitar. since i only detect one guitar,
this clip is probably from his band, Second
Coming, prior to joining the Allmans.

I'd have to guess this is possibly The Second Coming. Dickey is singing and playing lead, Berry Oakley playing bass, Reese Wynans on B-3. It's true ABB's first jam with all six original members was in Jacksonville on 3/26/69, but I think Duane may have had to return to Muscle Shoals for sessions. I could be wrong, though.

My guess is Dickey's singing and not Gregg on organ. Also, the first time the Allman Bros. played together was on March 29, 1969 I believe.

@gruveking I hate to disagree and I tried to imagine Berry Oakely singing on this several times and from seeing the original band so many times and hearing Berry sing live, talk live and on Idlewild South, it just isn't him to me. But there are times in the singing on this song that I can hear Dickey's voice. At other times it doesn't sound like any of ABB members but If I had to pick one it is Dickey Betts. Especially when the vocal is almost talking, he sounds very much like Dickey then to me.
