There's nothing better than walkng around your garden when the weather is perfect and still like that! That's a great point about the rats going for the seed rather than the flash. I hadn't thought of that.
It was a wonderful day that day. No mowers going, no rowdy kids out, just peace and quiet. Oh yeah, even the rats aren't that fond of sour fruit lol. They just want the energy from the seeds to keep their nasty hearts beating in the winter lol. Still waiting for you to send spring here... haha

It was great to see an update of your hardy citrus, G! Looks like they are doing really well! You have an incredible collection of rare hardy citrus.
Much appreciated Peter! They seem to be doing pretty well up until this point. More winter to go though. I hope both of our fruit tree collections do okay this winter. See you around good bud
Greetings, G. The trees look very healthy. Thanks for the update.

Appreciate the kind words, hope you have a great week too! We're getting blasted with some cold temps
Thanks for the Winter updates. We still have snow up our way. Amazing how different our climates can be.
We had a tiny bit of snow that pretty much just melted away but yeah you get way more snow and freezing temps up there. You taking a hiatus from YT?
@@VirginiaFruitGrower Still trying to relight the creative fires. LOL Every time I record something, I look at it and say it is not YT ready yet. Then it gets way outdated and gets archived. 😂🤣😂
@EssayonsFG I know what you mean. I barely have as many vids out as a lot of other channels but also find the same problem. Other than that life gets in the way or motivation kinda fades in and out. Either way thanks so much for coming around and being a great bud

Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate you checking it out!
Hi G. Wow. The trees look so beautiful and so full of fruits. It seems so long ago. Amazing how some trees give so many fruits without leaves. Can’t believe you have fruits on trees in January. 👏👏. You probably have to wait by the trees and grab the fruits so they wont fall and get eaten up. 😱😱. There is a pest in every garden. 😩 we are supposed to get snow tonight. Not happy about it. It’s keeping me from visiting my greenhouse more often. Have a great weekend. 👍👍.
@@notafraidtogarden4806 hey Wanda 👋. Yup even though the first part was filmed in November there really are still a lot of Swingle fruit out there. I probably should have picked them long ago lol. Oh man more snow for you. I forget that it can really keep you from getting out to your greenhouse. That can be troublesome especially if you need to get some plants watered. Take care!
Lovely garden tour!
Thank you kindly 🙏
Looking great! Glad to see the maintenance crew didn’t chop all of them down as of late, I know your pain!! Got some Tai Tri sprouting right now!
I appreciate it Ross! Yep, I had a chat with the grounds crew leader and so far so good. That was a bummer back then. Yay! Good luck with your TaiTri!
@ Thanks man! Excited to add them to the collection!
Good to have a update tour G
Have you ice skated in that pond before 😅
Pain how the trees want to produce better hanging the fence, get some razor wire 😂
I haven't ice skated on it yet but it has gotten cold enough to just about walk across it. It scares me when we get cold enough that it starts freezing over. That means death and destruction to lots of trees. Thanks a lot mate! BTW I put my order in for some razor wire lol
You have a beautiful Garden G!
Iike the fast forward update! Very NICE!

Impressive collection for Virginia outdoors! I would have never thought it possible so far north.
It is definitely possible to grow cold hardy citrus this far north if you pick the right varieties, site them correctly and graft them up on the right rootstock. Big thanks for your time watching!

Thanks for the update! :) Personally I'm more into your hardy in-ground stuff than tropical potted plants. Although there is a bigger variety and there are more interesting, rare and unusual stuff ,growing them seem out of reach for me ... at least for now. Btw have you tried/heard about growing guabiju in ground? Some ppl share their experience that it can go ~-10*C with little to no damage (young plants)
Hey Arbuzzz! I get you totally. Citrus was my gateway 'drug' which kinda led me into all kinds of other tropical fruits. But yes, citrus was my bread and butter in the begining and got most all my attention. I have a good sized grafted guabiju that I'm aware is pretty cold tolerant but I think it is just out of range for my zone. I believe that would be better suited as a zone 9 tree. I'm too chicken to plant my precious tree in the ground here. Anyhow your support means a lot. Biggest thanks!
@VirginiaFruitGrower Ofc don't risk any trees that you are not OK to lose. But if you get some spare seeds you can try it out . I will for sure do so myself when i lay hands on some guabiju trees.

Wow your yuzu is very pretty with those fruits
It is very ornamental for sure. I slacked off though and was gutted one day when I went out to see that they were all eaten up by rats. Boo

Wow beautiful video ⁶🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@chayaskitchenrecipesvlog9037 hi Chaya! Thanks a lot
Awesome walkthrough as always! That seedling Yuzu is incredible.
Also does your Dimicelli get damaged in the teens? We had one plant with bark damage after 15°F and the other one was fine, but I brought it into the greenhouse to make sure we don't lose it. The foliage smells amazing and the cuttings root very easily.
Thanks a lot a lot my friend. Yup that seedling yuzu has been wanting to get huge for a while. As for my Dimicelli, it seems to have gotten more cold tolerant as it has matured but yes temps below around 12-13 start to beat it up a bit. Was your bark damage on a seedling or grafted? Nice to know it root's easily. I've never gotten around to trying to root it. Have a great Sunday!
@@VirginiaFruitGrower Happy Sunday! That's good to know, it was grafted but from a small seedling. The stem that was damaged was probably around 1/3 of an inch. I may put one outside again when they are thicker!
Very healthy growth 😊
Thank you kindly 🙏
WOW! That is an amazing orchard! Im curious do local birds and fona eat these unfamiliar fruits while they are still in the tree? Or are they unknown to local “pests” so they dont know to actively search for them to eat? Fantastic video👌🏻
The birds and other critters don't really mess with the citrus. In mid to late winter rats get desperate and start tearing into them to eat the seeds.
I am interested in the taste comparison between Dimicelli and clemyuz. If they are about the same edible, then it is probably more worthwhile to grow Dimicelli because it is more cold resistant, at least it is supposed to be.
You have a great point. My Dimicelli did take a tremendous hit but came back when we got to 3 degrees while my 2-2 and 3-3 totally died. When both are totally ripe it's kind of a hard choice but I'd probably pick Dimicelli. ClemYuz/10 degree tangerine flavor can vary though too depending if you have a good seedling or clone. Thanks for taking time out to watch!
@@VirginiaFruitGrower I thank you for sharing your experiences with others. Now I have a young Slava Mičurina orange, which is a chimera between a Navel orange and a poncirus, has fruit like a Navel orange and lasts up to 5f (-15c). Now they haven't had fruit yet, but one year old, this winter, it survived 22F almost without change, grafted on citrumelo. I will try to graft it to poncirus, so that it will be more resistant to the cold, and since this orange ripens very late, it will also ripen 10-14 days earlier than grafted to citrumelo. Grafted to carizzo citrange ripens earlier than to poncirus, but is less resistant to cold. It should be fully ripe by mid-December in my climate.
Have you noticed a difference in hardiness between the Carolina Lime and the other citrus hybrid from Dr. Brown?
Hi Drew! I haven't grafted Carolina lime out to test side by side against the ClemxTri x Clem. They could be the same tree but could be sister seedlings from Dr Brown's collection. They are pretty similar. Thanks for stopping by
Wow A lot of Citrus trees
Yes ma'am, thanks!
Great video as always! I was wondering, when you say the yuzu is on its own roots, does that mean it's grown from a cutting or seed? Thanks!
Howdy Owen! Good question. The tall yuzu is one I grew from seed in a pot and planted probably when it was around 1-2 years old. The other yuzu I referred to is one I grafted a mature scion onto flying dragon. I don't think I have any citrus trees growing out in my yard that have been grown from cuttings. Thanks so much!
@VirginiaFruitGrower thank you! That is good to know. I'll be on the look out for some yuzu and grow out some seeds.
Brilliant🎉
You're brilliant, fam!
So many fruit! Does your Thomasville ripen to the orange stage? I can't use flying dragon as a rootstock here, way too slow, but I like the more compact growth of the grafted plants
@raregrowsNJ Some years they'll somewhat get to the orange stage but I never felt like they tasted better 'ripe'. Seems like they're better used as a lime/lemon substitute. I don't even really like using Flying Dragon now either. Too slow to recover from damage. Thanks for watching!
Love the Vids & plants. Do u ever sell plants or scions?
@@antavina1 hey Antavina 👋 Thanks!!
Yes, I'd be open to that. You can contact me on FB messenger or Instagram or email through my UA-cam About Me page-but has to be opened on a desktop/laptop.
15:06 Just an FYI - it looks like you have some Chinese Privet popping up. I'd recommend getting rid of that as it's a terrible invasive. Anyway, thanks for the update!

@@myexoticfoodplants6727 thanks a lot Mike. So nice to have you stop by
Really your range of 'hardy' citrus beggars belief. I think we'd struggle to find more than a couple of those varieties in the UK lol. Without a bigger garden to be honest I'm not trying too hard to find any 😂
@lyonheart84 thanks a lot! I'm kind of surprised there aren't more hardy citrus growers over there. Maybe there's just not enough heat units to keep any of them happy there. Although you've been doing pretty well with what you got growing. Same pretty much with me. No more room and I have enough sour hybrids lol
@VirginiaFruitGrower very true we don't get a long enough season or enough heat in a typical summer, but even if people had space and wanted to try growing them, they simply aren't available anywhere 😥
You have a lot of citrus trees 😮
