- Maxwell Barr presents this humorous 18th Century French fan language interpretation for the Fan Association of North American (FANA) at their 30th Assemblage in Tucson, Arizona. He created the beautiful dress modeled by Laura Miller of Tucson who brings down the house with her "secret" fanning messages.

I just purchased a fan at Dollar Tree yesterday! Love this! I will be using this language! Lol
Even if it's not historically accurate, it is very cute.
this was very helpful
me and my friend were look to learn this
What does throwing the fan to the face mean?
If it's no more than the fan to the face, it means "I wish to perpetrate violence against you." If it's a fan to the face accompanied by screaming and running away, it means "There's a spider on your face!"
Of course this "language of the fan" would have deserved more laughs in an 18th century "salon", and DID NOT exist ! Nobody has been able to find a proof of such a language at the time evoked by the dress shown here, with talent and humour.
