That was one hell of a well practiced sales pitch
Agreed. Thanks for the comment.
I've gotta say, this is easily one of the most intriguing firearms that was showed at Shot Show this year. It's something fairly unique and I'm interested to see where it goes. Hopefully I'll get a chance to shoot it at some point.
I'm in love since it's so easy to swap calibers. My wife says I can only have 1 new firearm a year? Checkmate!
I'd actually buy this
@@loganwhite3904 Me too, if its MSRP comes under $2,200-$2,300
@@wizkaqueefa9003 I never thought a soft recoil/recoil-less 308 would ever exist for guys like me in a wheelchair but here we are! Olympus Arms have really outdone themselves with the Vulcan
@@wizkaqueefa9003 If they offer the caliber swaps for a reasonable price then it would make the 4k price tag worth it. Look at the other multi cal offerings on the market. It would be a steal if it was 5-800 a swap. Really would like to see this with 6.5, 300win, and 338. The options are endless for this setup, excited to see what Michael comes up with.
More recoil in that man's handshake than his spiffy rifle! LOL
I always though that John Browning had a winner when he came out with long-recoil Model 8 in 1905. I truly thought that it had the potential to be America's first semi-auto service rifle if the army wasn't so dead set on mounting a bayonet on the barrel instead of on he shroud. But different times, different century and different requirements mean that this brilliant beauty is now possible. Kudos to the creator of this rifle. It will make 7.62x51 more tolerable to more people. I wish him all success, along with Olympic Arms for taking the risk on this new/old design.
yes long and short stroke recoil systems have been around. But I think the big thing here is incorporating this concept into a modern rifle with multi cal capabilities. It really is a breath of fresh air to see browning design utilized in such a way. Really looking forward to seeing this company succeed.
@@Gearsofguns2 My question about this design is.
Will this rifle remain reliable enough under heavy fire or in harsh conditions?
Or is it a good enough design not to worry about that?
Whoa- if it’s reliable, and accurate, it’s the future of rifles. No gas back at you when shooting suppressed, less recoil, easy maintenance, barrel and caliber changes. Looks awesome
2 MOA claimed. Can’t wait to test it out
This platform (its design and capabilities) are fundamentally a mind shift in operation and possibilities. It will be great to see further shooting reviews. I would like to see a full 5000 round test done on it. The simplicity of its design lends itself to such a variety of calibers.
While this is based off the M82, there was quiet a bit of R&D to make it work as a 30 cal platform and be able to swap calibers. Really excited to get this in for review and see how it holds up to some abuse. Thank you for stoping by.
Disagree. Others have done this before. New take on an old principle
@Iraqveteran8888
I think this is the most innovative gun in years. It's not just another short stroke gas piston or AR-15. I hope this company has tons of success so they can bring down the cost. Probably won't, but I hope it does
We are keeping a close eye on them and hoping them all the best in this world. I could see them picked up by some big name company who is looking for the newest toy in town and having it rebranded by SHOT 2025.
Totally. Check out Forgotten Weapons review of the Laugo Alien, which I think is the most innovative handgun in several decades. ua-cam.com/video/rbGCL3iRm2Y/v-deo.html
Badass if it holds up under adverse conditions.
Yes, tested hard AF
i like the way this guy talks, right though it without all the filler. i thought at first the price was steep but being able to swap barrels and cals so easy it makes it look a hell of a lot nicer option
The barrel swapping is probably the most important feature besides the long recoil action. Really makes a 4k investment seem better when you have options.
The question we have is what is that caliber conversion going to cost me?
Damn this looks sick and he explained everything so well!
This is a long recoil gun not recoiless. Long recoil has a history for having fairly stiff recoil, so it will be interesting if Olympus found a way to mitigate that. It's looks really cool and is unique though.
yes a lot of mass moving back and forth
If the tfbtv spot showed anything, recoil was comparable to 5.56
I know. Recoilless has a clearly defined meaning. They need to come up with a better name for it.
Just a marketing term to get your attention. Very much agree though.
It reminds me of a remington model 8 lol. Mind you it was my great grandmother's rifle.
If that rifle works it is a game changer..Looking forward to actual shooting reviews..
Dude Was Prepared For The Video ! AWESOME AR
I always thought about something like this, only concern is accuracy, but even if they fine tune it along the way, it's a big win. I invite everyone to promote innovation, and progress, because it's easy to find flaws in a new introduction. It can be fixed later, but they need our support.
It's brand new. I'm sure millions will want this. A few years later it might appreciate/depreciate but I should have enough money by then.
Our thoughts exactly. Thanks for the comment.
I hope this goes a long way I really do the potential of this setup is crazy in my opinion
I shot the Vulcan at Range Day. My buddy pulled out his Vortex Recce to see the hits-landing and the guy from Vulcan asked him to put it away. IOW they didn't want anyone to witness those 6 MOA hits.
Thats incredibly cool
Seems like a great rifle for end of days type stuff
I love innovation, it takes an amazing group of engineers to think out of the box and elevate the success of the AR platform. Amazing looking product, I wish your team much success.
Thank you for the kind words. We hope the best for these folks as well. While long and short recoil isn’t new. Utilizing it in a familiar AR platform is. That is what is so cool about this. But some people don’t seem to understand that. Glad you were able to admire the engineering of such a cool product. We hope they are successful so we as consumers can reap the benefits of their efforts.
Absolutely Freaking Awesome!! I love innovation.
Fascinating design
Its on my buy list for sure.
Sweet. Post an accuracy review when you get one!
That guy from Olympus sure can show their stuff. :) perfect presentation in my opinion.
I was also very impressed by that. he is not just someone who can design a rifle but he can also make your a believer without ever seeing it in action. We are hoping to play with one.
@@Gearsofguns2 Looking forward to see your test :)
Glad someone is bringing into the light the A-5 JOHN BROWNING design from 100 years ago. If it ain't broke.
That's a sleek beauty.
😳😳😳😳🤯. That's just simply AWESOME! Gonna start saving now 😂.
A Dollar a day keeps guns flowing your way
finally something worth it this year. Instead of dumb dumb AR15 lever action.
NOW THAT!!!! is badass! That's everything the M16 family of rifles SHOULD HAVE BEEN!!!
This is freaking cool!!! I have so many questions. This obvious isn't a free float design anymore. Wonder how it impacts accuracy.
Nice design!
Interested to see how it operates whilst dirty, and what kinda groups it puts on paper.
I love this.
Great presentación for a great weapon.
Easily the most versatile firearm I saw during the SHOT coverage!
Probably the only thing that got me excited
What type of accuracy? See if you can get a sample. Also, thanks for letting him talk and describe the rifle. I've seen this on another (huge) channel and I didn't learn 1/10th of what I did on your vid.
I love the number of new guntubers being fed up by the algorithm. Keep it up.
Did not get that info regarding accuracy. But when we get it in for review this will be the first this we test.
Thank you for stopping by and checking us out. This is actually our second back up channel since UA-cam has been on a tear about guidelines this past month. but we are a small channel. Just two of us doing this because we like guns. Glad you learned something from the video. Hope this year is treating you well.
Nearly exactly what I have wanted for a long time.
Would be nearly perfect other than its so proprietary and long recoil spring vs short to mid with a tighter spring.
Love it though! Perhaps in about 10 years, this old, retired grunt might actually be able to afford this amazing rifle.
Cheers.
I like the innovation of this rifle. Part of the action looks inspired by the .50 BMG barrel action. The split design of the upper is interesting. Also the ambi mag release is interesting, but of course these components aren't interchangeable whatsoever with any AR-10 (except maybe the buffer tube, possibly the trigger) but hopefully the ideas here hold up. Very interested to see some long term testing on this.
Non of it would integrate except maybe the trigger and that is a hard maybe.
Upper lower has a different take down system. Handguard is different. Buffer tube while it looks like one is actually just a rubber stop which plays into the long recoil action of this gun.
Michael’s inspiration was actually the short recoil system found in the barret m82
It is excellent to see innovation rather than another iteration of the same old thing
Love how he incorporated long recoil into a modern platform with multi cal capabilities as well
"Kermit, we must have one of these"!
-Teddy Roosevelt
Back blast area clear!
The big issue with long recoil guns is accuracy. I'll be curious to see how accurate it is.
That's my concern as well. 9mm would be fine for typical use ranges (but the rifle is huge... so why?), 223/5.56 would probably be ok for shorter stuff (guessing 100y would be 4ish MOA?), but .308 would not make much sense. I REALLY want to get some accuracy reviews of this .
If it can get above 3 MOA at 100 yards, I would buy it. 3 MOA is accurate enough to reach 300 yards
Wrong
@@zecaoalfredo4242 Someone above mentioned 2 MOA with a possible precision version with a special barrel bushing. I'd take that with a grain of salt but assume it will be 1-3 MOA
Problem with a bushing is you can only induce so much drag on that barrel before the system stops running. Go spend some time with an old Auto 5 or Remington 11 shotgun. They use a bushing and taper ring system the way gas guns use gas port sizing. The system is also sensitive to recoil spring wear and how tightly the firearm is held - think stove pipes with a pistol.
out of all the other content I have seen at shot show I keep coming back to the Olympus Arms recoil operated AR platform I would however like to see it in an AR-15 5.56 even though redundant in that caliber it would still be cool to have. also do You know if Olympus Arms has a website to that we can browse
They are a startup company so brand new. Not to be confused with the one that pops up when you google their name. The only site I have been able to find them on is instagram which is Olympus arms official. The logo will match Michaels shirt. I will contact Michael and see about a good url to post. When he gets back to me I will forward over to you.
As for 556 as an option. I believe it is something they are working on as he did mention the mag insert to change from 308 down to 9mm and 45 ACP. Once again they just started but we love what we are seeing from these guys.
Far out i wish australia had america's gun laws this weapon looks amazing to shoot. Yes, you have nailed it with the bolt release everything should be accesible by a single hand.
I really love the overall design and disassembly of it. Very well thought out. I would prefer to see the original action in it though - recoil operated gas assisted with the gas acting as a buffer/delaying mechanism. Perhaps change it to short recoil too, to reduce recoiling mass.
I think long recoil and the mass is needed to make it cycle correctly.
I Want one!!
The Barrett 50 also has the recoil barrel & accuracy is great so this should be also.
That is the hope. From Michael, "why can't we have a barrett 30 cal?" here we are. Excited to try it out
I wondered how long it would take for someone to update the Browning style long recoil operation to a modern rifle design.
Well here we are !
and here we are!
Shooting .308 with that must be fun!
cool gun but i have serious accuracy concerns. Barrel cant be free floating since it literally moves, all that movement is going to introduce deflection into the system.
Their is a reason why the most accurate weapon platforms on earth are bolt guns. Its because once you've chambered a round and locked the bolt down, nothing moves. That's why you have repeatable results. That's also why free floating barrels that aren't effected by deflection of the handguard are far more accurate. (this is why bullpups tend to be around 4 moa guns where an AR platform gun in the same price range can achieve 1/2 moa.
Id expect this is probably around a 4 moa gun, which may be perfectly acceptable for some people, but I personally prefer a more accurate platform.
What suppressor did you use? Why only 750 rounds? How much?
I just wish these weren't so expensive, a long recoil AR-10 would be really neat.
The cost is there so he can R&D in the direction he wants to see this rifle. If he can bring it fully to market I am sure we will see the price drop a little.
Man that looks awesome, just saw you guys are in CA and my heart goes out to you folks...Stay strong brothers and sisters and I hope ya''ll make it through all of pelosi's nephews idiocy.
that is a different company In CA that is no longer in business.
@@Gearsofguns2 Thanks for the information, Great video and I'm definitely watching these guys.
I happened to have just shot a browning shotgun similar to this. Very interesting recoil. But, i cannot imagine holding a zero is very precise? Maybe its a 2-3 moa gun?
At range day it is just steel targets setup. So it isn't possible to do an accuracy test. We are interested to see the results on paper at 100 yards. I can't see this being a sub MOA gun, but we won't know till we test it.
If they make a magnum action version in .338 lapua im sold.
Are they associated with the Mars Rifle? because it's pretty similar to the Mars Mustang.
WHOA!
It's cool right?
What fire rate it would have in full auto?
That was a sales pitch from a galaxy far, far way, and a long time ago... I hope it works
It works. They had it out at the range.
Did they mention anything about accuracy? Is the trigger standard or proprietary?
Nothing mentioned about accuracy and we did not get to test the accuracy at range day since you are only shooting steel. The trigger from our understanding is a standard AR trigger.
This is like a mini Barrett M107. Exact same design scaled down
it is a short recoil rifle... yes but not the same design.
I hope he's successful that's a nice rifle but very limited market
I saw this gun and instantly thought about selling my AR-10.
I dont think Michael knows he will be next to Kalashnikov is the hall of fame!
I'm curious to see if it's picky about ammo. Different bullet weights and powder charges would alter the amount of energy the assembly is counteracting. Mostly, I'd worry you'd short-stroke it. I imagine the adjustable muzzle device is an attempt to mitigate that. Really interested to see some 1000 round reviews of this guy. If it's reliable, I'd love to get one.
our thoughts as well
do they have a website ? i wanna know more about this vulcan rifle! i could not find their name on google search
I have only found them on Instagram Olympus arms official. The website you get on google is an old defunct CA company. These guys are out of Utah I believe
@@Gearsofguns2 thank you very much
Hey Olympus Arms is there anyway to have your complete upper work on a GGV3 DPMS 308 lower? If so I'm willing to spend the cost of the entire Vulcan system to just get something compatible with a frame that Defense distributed mass sold. Please respond I'm eager for your response.
Not sure if they will respond directly but I will ask Michael and see if I can get you an answer. My assumption is no given no takedown pin in the rear since it is replaced with the button. Probably to provide adequate space for the bolt and barrel to reciprocate. But maybe with a conversion kit along with the upper it might be possible.
@@Gearsofguns2 That's music to my ears man thank you. I tried sending them a message last night on their contact page but when submitting the message the circle thing just kept spinning so I have no idea if they got the message or not.
very nice
Super intriguing. One big downside IMO is that the part that holds your optic needs to be removed for general maintenance. How much zero shift is there? Do I need to re-zero my rifle every time I clean it? The barrel moves during firing, so how accurate is the rifle, really?
2 MOA interested in the same thing as well though.
This is all what I want
You should at least want 2
Any word where we can get these?
Not actually out yet this is a start up and early prototype. These guys don't even have a website setup yet. Can find them on instagram and Facebook though. Olympus Arms Official. Should look like the logo on Michaels shirt. The one in CA is not affiliated with these gents.
🤔 😊😊😊Since the barrel reciprocates, what is the accuracy?
no true answer at the moment. Id expect 1-3 MOA
Very creative, I do wonder about accuracy though.
2 MOA
Looks like it cycles slow, what's it's max rate of fire?
Pretty much as fast as you want to shoot while keep target acquisition. Watch the FTB video.
Search Olympus Armament
what is the MOA on this gun?
Sub 2
Performance model is looking to get it closer to 1.
If you take away the recoil you also take away some of the force of the bullet going forward because the bullet looses it's solid wall it's firing from. Wonder how accurate it can be with the barrel moving in?
What would be the difference between you absorbing the recoil or the weapon absorbing it?
The pressure propelling the bullet down the barrel is still the same. I'm pretty sure most, if not all of the recoil occurs when the bullet leaves the barrel.
Why not make it compatible with a AR-10 lower?
What about zero and accuracy?
2 MOA claimed
Where do you find this? They don't seem to have a website
They are a start up so I do not believe there is website from my research. on the other hand they have an instagram. Olympus arms official.
2 words " Forgotten Weapons"
I don't think these guys have a website..,. Who are they?
They do not yet. Not from what we have found. They are on instagram. Olympus arms official. If I get a website from their owner I will pin it in the comment section.
what's the accuracy at 300 yards?
2 MOA @ 100 with performance version available claiming 1 MOA @ 100
The New Tesla AR on The AR Platform. Change barrel, recoil spring, a few seals, and you can go a million miles. Sounds like the military's new battle rifle. A Simple Concept, great R & D, and wishing them great success in Our Constitutional Republic.
so it takes down
in under a minute
to a 16in pkg?
Not just 16 inch. Different Barrel length and caliber Configs.
Hoping for a lot more than .308 from a recoiless rifle :/ can this even penetrate light tanks?
/s
Its a mini barrett, so set the bar at mini tanks.
@@Gearsofguns2 Italians won't know what hit em!
I'm curious to see how this thing performs when it comes to reliability and accuracy
The accuracy is on everyone's mind. there are a lot of moving pieces
epic
nifty.
It is, we are excited to watch how this evolves. Thanks for the comment.
I usually don't like AR's but that is freaking awesome. Any msrp info?
$4,500-$4,700.
4500 MSRP
MSRP $3,875
I am with Olympus arms and our MSRP is $3875 If you have any more questions feel free to contact me Thank you
that thing is probably 75 to 80% new not even close to being AR
It’s companies like this that allows other companies to evolve and explore new options. It takes a lot of engineering/R&D to do this. Without companies like this, we would just have new Magpul accessories, overpriced Steiner scopes that old retired guys buy to shoot 200 yards at their local range, and new cerakote options….
HAHA! 100% agree!
How’s the accuracy?
2 MOA is claimed. Can’t confirm though. First thing we will test once we have it
>12in 7,62 pistol with no stock
>Fun to shoot
X to doubt
sicc, but doesnt it affect fire rate ?
Yes to a degree, did not get to test this back to back against a conventional AR-10 setup so can't say how much
Looks very interesting.
My one big question is, what sort of accuracy is the system capable of?
There's no point in any firearm that has crap accuracy.
I was not told directly by Olympus but someone claimed 2 MOA with a precis on option available down the road. Take that with a grain of salt till we can actually test it.
@@Gearsofguns2 I'm hearing ya mate, We have seen some nice bang sticks that loo all flash but weren't capable of hitting the ground if you fired straight up.
Thanks for getting back to me.
I want to see a mud test on this rifle!
We are on a waiting list. About 6-8 weeks till we can get our hands on it. We plan to test it in normal conditions for a base line and then adverse conditions to see where it will fail.
WOW! This is a pretty impressive gun. What's the price point?
I believe in the 2k range. Let me get ahold of Michael and get an exact number for you.
I was way off sorry but the price is around 4500 MSRP
You said you've got one you've been running?
I'm extremely disappointed. You didn't ask the two obligatory shot show questions.
When can I get it?
& what's it cost?
We aim to disappoint! $4500 no idea when you can get it.
I'll get one if available for Cali
Doubtful but we can only hope for your sake they do!
