🙂 thanks for the comparisons, it looks like 8GB VRAM makes a difference in many video games, and having 8GB i notice that it helps to reduce System Ram Usage
Yeah there's not much in it. If you have a 1440p monitor then the 2060 clinches it because it has DLSS on its side. Otherwise whichever you can get for less is the better card.
They must have the older BIOS. The 5600 XT launched with lower specs so early adopters had to flash a BIOS update for the higher power target and RAM speeds. The 5600 XT with the updated BIOS is a good ~15% faster and overall better than the RTX 2060. This also increases the power draw to be more inline with the RTX 2060 though.
@@tranner85 I would not say its that much faster. More around 3-5% these days on average. That is the updated BIOS but something is set wrong with the RAM speed. It could not have those power draw numbers on the old BIOS. I upgrade to the 6700XT, got one for $250 free shipping. That GPU kills the 4060 ti and FSR3 FG all but evens the features.
@@TheVanillatech I misread his post, I knew soon as I looked. I thought he meant the difference between the 5600XT is 15% faster than the RTX2060 As far as the updated BIOS goes yeah, going from 14GBs to 16GBs makes a big difference. It put the 5600XT up a class.
The 2060 tends to do better in newer titles from what I've seen and it's over all a faster card according to Tom's Hardware: www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html
Nvidia dropped support for Pascal the day Turing lauched (as they dropped support for Maxwell the day Pascal launched). Also, the 1080 doesn't support Vulkan or DX12 extensions in hardware, it emulates them via drivers, meaning the 2060 outperforms the 1080 in games that use those API's. Nvidia reverse engineered Vega and Polaris to add hardware support for newer API's in Turing series.
None of the cards are overclocked above any factory OC. That 1080 is an ROG STRIX with a v good dense cooler on it though, so it would probably OC well.
If you notice, there is a shift in the performance advantage over the last year or so in those comparisons of the 2060 vs the 1080. It's probably due to better support of the new drivers and dx12 and in between. Whether it's because it crippled the 1080 or boosted the 2060, about that I'm not sure.
Well for what it's worth Hardware Unboxed's test has the 5600 trailing the 2060 by 16% at 1080p high in this game ua-cam.com/video/qcAwR49zRCg/v-deo.html&ab_channel=HardwareUnboxed In my personal experience only current gen high end AMD cards beat their Nvidia counterparts in RDR2 and even then it's only at 1080p. Seems like the 5600 xt has better performance/watt but not that much OC headroom (based on the reviews I read).
