Mary, here's a tip you might like to make you windows look even a little larger. Instead just attach each of the last clips on either side of your curtain panels to be attached 'past beyond' the brackets. It will hide the bracket and make the window look larger because the curtain will then extend further out beyond the window frame. I hope this makes sense.
Absolutely love the curtains. I've never seen anybody do a little pinch pleat at the top. What a great idea. And honestly I love the fact that the walls and the curtains are close in color. I think it looks very classy. I wouldn't paint until you get new furniture and see how everything looks. Great job.
Agreed! The color looks great against the wall with white furniture! When you flipped that frame, I laughed "Of course, she has a two-sided seasonal wall hanging! Brilliant.
Mary I have watched you for at least 6-7 years and you never stop amazing me with your ideas, ideals, your home, and your sweet sweet soul!! I just love and adore everything you do 🥰
As usual, beautiful! I agree with earthy artist...when I did this I spread the panels on the floor, folded & attached rings. Then just slipped the rings on the rods. The key rings are so sweet 💌👌 HAPPY VALENTINE MARY 🌸🌸🌸
YEP! They do look GREAT and what I like most, is that it shows everyone that you don't have to have a lot of money to decorate your home. Fifty years ago when I first married, we had $5.00 YEP. I had to be creative I have always loved lace. I came across four square pieces of a lacey material, pinched the top with clamping curtain rod rings. This made beautiful cheap kitchen curtain. Can't wait to see more.
Absolutely love the new curtains. You have such a good eye. The contrast between the type of fabric and the elegant way you hung them with the pinched pleats, the casual rings and the formal length, they are exquisite and so very beautiful! ❤
Good tips from everyone about hanging with at least 1 curtain ring outside of the brackets. I have 4 since I extended the rods about 8 inches. I also put rings on the panels before hanging them so I don't have to work with my arms raised for so long and risk unbalancing. I measure everything before fastening rings to be sure they are perfectly spaced (because of OCD tendencies 😊).
Your new drapes look terrific. Drapes are SO expensive... so I've had drop cloth curtains/drapes for probably 5 years now, and I love them. In the winter, I fold them in half (instead of a little valence) for extra insulation for our old windows. Yes, they become "curtains" instead of "drapes". Makes a difference in the temperature of the room. Also keeps the light out more.
What a difference. The new curtains really elevate the look of your room. I had to laugh when you talked about painting the room, white! Of course! Really appreciate the time you take in explaining all the steps and not taking any shortcuts to get the perfect look. Your Etsy shop items are perfect for Valentines Day 💝
I walk on my furniture to hang things and clean. It's much easier than moving the furniture and getting a ladder out lol. Curtains turned out gorgeous!!!
Those curtains are beautiful, it just goes to show how a small change can make such a difference! I do have a suggestion....move the last clip on each end to the outside of the brackets. This will balance the look of the rods and prevent the curtains from sliding. Great tutorial on your pinching method! 👏🇨🇦
The curtains are lovely. I think they would look nice ironed and folded over on the “ right “ side for a more traditional or eclectic style home. Terrific hack! 🙏
What a great idea! I'm so glad you raised your curtain rod! I just did this for the first time and I love it! You are so talented, Mary! God Bless you from Missouri!!
Love, Love, Love the curtains!!! They compliment the room so nicely. Have you ever thought of perhaps hanging a thick jute tassel from the pole in the middle the double window? It will actually hide that metal apparatus between the two sets of curtains.
Love it! I have drop cloth on all of my windows downstairs and also on my long narrow windows on either side of my front door. Love them! Easy to wash and warm in the winter time.
Greetings from North Carolina, I love how they all turned out. I have the same set up in my home. The entire house was smelling of bleach but the end result of my project was worth it. YOU CONTINUE TO INSPIRE ME, LOVE AND REGARDS TO ALL THOSE ALSO READING THIS POST❤🎉
They look beautiful and have changed the room. You saved so much money Those curtains would cost hundreds. Thanks for showing us curtains we can make at a budget. So much better than those UA-cams that show us how to hang thousand dollar curtains we could never afford.
Had a friend (OCD) measured did folds and stapled. No overhead fold. She used towlet paper roll to measure on another set. So many hacks that I love it. You look like you were more able to adjust for the different windows that older houses can have
Mary I love how the curtains look. I think that when they are higher it does make the room even fill bigger. Your home is always so beautiful I love everything. Oh and I walk on my furniture to hang my curtains it's just easier for me. It's not like my socks are dirty.
I really like your new curtains. Love watching how creative you are. And font worry about walking or standing on your furniture. It's YOURS. Thank you for being you Mary.
Omg, this brought back memories of doing this with thinner white fabric I think was curtain lining fabric over 30 years ago for a house in Florida but I wasn’t clever enough to do the pinch pleat in the fold over. Your version looks much nicer. Does anyone remember when we used to “dye” our drop cloths or white fabrics in tea? Yeah, that’s how long ago it was lol😂
Oh , Mary! Your curtains turned out just beautiful 😍 Made me want to make a Walmart run and do my living room and bedroom. Thank you so 💓 very much for ALWAYS giving us such great inspiration! Godspeed!!!
I am going to join in with the love the walls the way they are and wait for the new furniture to make a final decision on the wall color. We hosted our son's wedding here in our back yard, right in front of our New England style barn. I draped bleached drop cloth panels over the green barn doors. Added large tussy mussies with very long ribbon! Love being frugal with essential decorating. Good Job!!!!
Good morning Mary, you are so smart to use drop cloths to make curtains. The fabric after bleaching and washing is perfect. I love the look. Thank you for sharing . Until next time take care.❤
I am excited to try this as we prep to renovate our Master bedroom. Thank you for taking us thru the steps from purchase to finish. Visiting your Etsy shop next! God Bless❤
Such a good idea Mary, I need new curtains in my living room and patio area. I really like how you clipped and hung your panels, and they have certainly made the area look bigger by extending the hardware beyond the window frame. Thank you for sharing your home and ideas with us.
Boy, they really do look pretty. They look soft & pretty. I’ve heard about people making couch & chair covers with that fabric & they’ve talked about how much they’ve loved them. There’s cites that even show how to dye the fabric which would seem to make a project like this even more exciting to me. But that’s just me. What a fun accomplishment Mary. The room does really look better. Beautiful job! You go girl.
Beautiful room. I agree that the outer rings should be outside the brackets and the way you angled that chair across the corner is great. I would angle the cabinet across the corner too.
I just found your video for the 1st time watching you use drop cloth for your curtains. You then showed some extra precious things for Valentines Day I am so glad l found this beautiful video and you can believe me when l say l wont miss these again.Thank you for sharing.Cant wait to see what you will do next. You have given me an idea about using drop cloth for my dining room window. Thanks again and looking forward to your next vlip.
Love how these came out, what a great idea for the pinch method and thanks for letting us know you actually walk on your furniture because I do the same thing! I couldn't help but laugh!
Love the new curtains! You sure can’t tell they were made from a drop cloth! Love the new look! Now I would love to see how you decorate the room, 😊 Love your videos Mary God bless!
Beautiful. Love the valentines items. An idea I seen on Pinterest I think was having one curtain hook on the outside of the curtain rod holder so curtains can go to the edge. But yours looks great too.
Drop curtains look so good!! I never thought of folding the top edge down and then gathering two pieces of drop cloth together to make a pleat. My boyfriend has a sunroom and he wants curtains to close at night, since he lives in a neighborhood. I’ll have to show him this video so ha can visualize it….he is having a hard time grasping what I’m explaining.
Oh Mary Such a brilliant idea ! I just ❤❤ them , they look brilliant. I want cream curtains for my bedroom and I’m sure gonna try your method 👍thank you for sharing and have an awesome day 🤗
Wow Mary what a big difference, to lifting the pole higher and the folding of the drop cloth. So pretty and look expensive..... Love them and the look they have created.... 💗
This also keeps them neat since the panel can’t drift in towards the center of the window. It stabilizes them.
I came here to say the same thing!
I was going to mention the same thing. It’s easier when you close them too. ❤️
Love the new look. ❤️❤️
I just made the same comment before reading yours...great minds!!🇨🇦
Absolutely love the curtains. I've never seen anybody do a little pinch pleat at the top. What a great idea. And honestly I love the fact that the walls and the curtains are close in color. I agree, good idea.
Agreed! The color looks great against the wall with white furniture! When you flipped that frame, I laughed "Of course, she has a two-sided seasonal wall hanging! Brilliant.

I only live 30 minutes from Mary . Hubby and I hope to stay in one of her cottages. We have been married 51. Years!!
What length is the drop clothes?
As usual, beautiful! I agree with earthy artist...when I did this I spread the panels on the floor, folded & attached rings. Then just slipped the rings on the rods. The key rings are so sweet 💌👌 HAPPY VALENTINE MARY 🌸🌸🌸
The curtains are perfect! You did a wonderful job in hanging the drop cloths. Good for John for installing the rods. Fabulous!
Your space is very serene. The Christmas tree was beautiful

Harbor Freight also has inexpensive drop cloths. Your new curtains are lovely!
When I checked Harbor Freight drop cloth, the fabric had raw edges.
Really liked the look of the new window drapes! That’s a great tip for spacing the bracket drill holes.👍
Love what you did with the curtains, your room looks beautiful 👌
You've created a peaceful home. I love it!
Your new drapes look terrific. Drapes are SO expensive... so I've had drop cloth curtains/drapes for probably 5 years now, and I love them.

Love, Love, Love the curtains!!! They compliment the room so nicely. Have you ever thought of perhaps hanging a thick jute tassel from the pole in the middle the double window? It will actually hide that metal apparatus between the two sets of curtains.
Love the drapes you created. I’ve wanted this look so I’m copying you.
The drop cloth curtains look stunning. I was going to make some prior to seeing this video but now I'm going to go for the no sew style. Well done 😁x

What a brilliantly creative & cost effective idea…thank you…just the idea I was looking for 💚🌷
Love it! I have drop cloth on all of my windows downstairs and also on my long narrow windows on either side of my front door. Love them! Easy to wash and warm in the winter time.

Something about the natural fabric just adds such a calming effect to the room. Great job!
Love the curtains, the pinched pleats look great. I like the curtains being a similar colour to the walls. It makes the space cohesive I think.
