Looking forward to watching your adventures! We just spent a month in Lisbon- off season to stay away from the summer tourists. Lived similar to the locals (still was a tourist). We shopped in the local market and ate at the local’s haunts. It was a great eye opening experience.

On the flipside, this so-called quest for the authentic and obscure (and thus the accompanying disdain for the mainstream) is also decades old. The only difference is that the mainstream doesn't make an effort to mock the obscure. But there's been parade of pretentious Gen Zers, Millennials and Gen Xers that have been uttering your phrase "immerse myself in [insert culture here]" in an effort to ALWAYS mock the mainstream tourists. Not saying mainstream tourism isn't tacky and downright hilarious (it is!) but so is the idea of thinking you're special for going rogue, when you're just also copying thousands of other "special explorers of authentic immersion." Just food for thought. I do love watching these IG vs Reality videos though!
