    Thanks from Margaret River, Australia. There's a 2005 Space Gear with a two inch lift on the local Gumtree atm that I'm thinking of buying so I'm doing some research first. It would be my first 4WD.

    Gotta be a kei you're driving... pulling near redline shifts before clearing the intersection :-) Looking to do my L300 so thanks for the insights. Cheers!

    It’s absolutely bonkers how hard it was to get m10 bolts there, is Aus you could wander down the street and get those anywhere 😂

      Not gonna lie... I'm quite jealous of you for having that luxury.

    Wait, what...? I was following this until you used the grease gun at the end: is this necessary? Never seen another ball joint replacement video showing this.

      @mattbarratt5328 all depends on the ball joints you purchase. Many cheap units are not serviceable, I opted to with serviceable joints as they last longer but are more expensive.

    Had the same problem getting a caliper bolt for my Elgrand. Turned out Nissan dealership had a random box of bolts and 1 just the size I needed for free!

    If the UCA is on the rail, check that the brake hoses aren't pinched under the droop stop.

    When you change the lower ball joint, you need to to take out upper ball joint and tie rod to move the hub enough?

    • @projectaddiction
      @projectaddiction  2 роки тому +1

      It makes life much easier because you need to remove the CV shaft to gain enough clearance. However I have done it without removing the upper... Not sure the sure time savings was worth the hassle though... The tie rod is simple to remove so there's little point in fighting with it in place.

    • @FermeTerraPreta

      Thanks man! So if you don't remove the upper you would need to remove the CV shaft. I have removed tie rods and will remove the upper ball

    • @projectaddiction
      @projectaddiction  2 роки тому

      @@FermeTerraPreta the CV interferes with the ball joint whether you remove the upper or not and has to at minimum be removed the from the knuckle. It's just easier to work with and love the assy about if you disconnect the upper joint. But hard to explain via text, but It'll start making more sense as you tear into it.

    I'm installing my aluminum spacers soon and would hate to have them gall/corrode like those did. *edit* Hope the antiseize tip works!

    Where do you order your parts from for the L400?

    • @projectaddiction
      @projectaddiction  Рік тому

      There a number of importers on Canadian west coast which keep everything in stock. Rising and amazing auto normally have good stock, as does comb county auto. Alternatively I import my own parts when needed. Please note I've no affiliation with any of companies listed.

      @@projectaddiction that's great info. I have been searching for a company to purchase direct from Japan though haven't had any luck finding one. Do you recommend a place in Japan to source from directly?

      @@user-gi4yt5sp8j unfortunately You can use websites like Megazip, or Parts Souq though if are willing to wait for shipping. Honestly I do like the idea of supporting local small business though.

      @@projectaddiction I am totally on board to support local as well provided the prices are reasonable. Some shops know it's a niche market so they charge a kidney for parts. You ever deal with C and S Performance in Cranbrook BC?

      This isn't a new import, it has been in the country for almost 10 years now and has seen a lot of KM in the snow and salt. 10 years ago it was very clean, unfortunately road salt is evil and destroys all good things.
