- Yes, there is a 'PERFORMANCE' mode in most BMW's built in the last 20 years and it make such a difference! In this video I have fun testing this mode and showing you how to select it
It's great fun - I've tried it on my BMW 650i and a couple of 1-Series and it works so well - give it a go and let me know how it goes. - Авто та транспорт
Yes, yes, YES!
Woah! Yep, it's better, the first time I've really had this kind of fun in my 650i. Throttle feels good, right spot on for some lively driving, the midrev power is right there! and the sound! My kids very much approve.
It really does feel like a different car.
Just came back from my drive. The car feels unblocked, like it's able to breathe easy, very sharp response without feeling stressed. What a difference. This is finger licking good 👍 Thank you once again.
Brilliant! It seems to be about 50/50 so far, some are knocked out by the released performance - and some see no change at all!
Excellent - another happy customer!
Hi, I have done the first lesson you shared and it did put a smile on my face! I'm already in bed but feel like getting out into the 650 to try out your newest release. Got a smile on my face just looking and listening to you doing your drive. Keep on discovering 😂
Great job!
thanks for the sequel, I'm gonna keep experience this mode. hope to get some nice opportunities soon with my 645ci (manual).
Let us know how you get on!
Thanks again, Timm! Learned today that my car actually HAS a launch mode. Looks like I'll be having fun this afternoon getting reacquainted with my car. Ha ha. You're the best, Timm. Thank you, yet again!
Thanks, and always my pleasure!
Very interesting, i didnt know this
I will try it on my 630i
You should!
Hi Tim, Did your Vac Pump mod on my N62 earlier this week, worked like a charm going to tackle the Alternator Bracket seal this weekend hopefully it should sort out the Additive lambda trim too.
That's great news!
Make sure to get the O-rings for the oil thermostat pipes that you should change once you are there on the alternator bracket gasket
@@destroyer6867 I'm lucky the E60 I have doesn't have the oil cooler fitted to it so it is just the gasket
@@glassfullofmilk ahh ok 👌
Yeah I'm going to have to try that Tim😂🎉
Let us know what happened!
8:00 is all of us when a BMW gets close, love it. I’m changing the gearbox oil in mine this weekend, I’ll be sure to test performance mode AFTER that’s been done. Will let you know how it goes!
How did it go?
Tim I'm just gona fix ma rear shock then ima try this...man I can't wait
Go on, give it a go!
Keen to try this on my 645ci . It’s in the shop for a cam cover leak , misfiring, I’m in New Zealand . Have some me local roads I can really test it on .
Give it a go and tell us what happens - we've had great reports from other 645 owners.....
Hi Timm,
I'd like to complement you on all your great videos!
You are right in my wheelhouse. I own a 750Li and a 550i both with high mileage N62's.
Right now I'm doing a CCC to CIC retrofit on my e60, so I can't try the Performance Mode function on the 550i.
But I did try entering Performance Mode repeatedly on my 2006 e66 (usa) to no avail.
With the car running in park and wIth DTC off- holding down the iDrive after 4 seconds the "DSC Inactive" message comes up as well as the two yellow circled warning triangles.
But, when I continue to hold the iDrive knob down, nothing further happens after even as long as 30 seconds.
If I press the iDrive knob once quickly, the "DTC Active" notification pops up. If I start the sequence with DTC on, and then hold the knob down for 15 seconds it's simply turns DTC back to Inactive.
Any thoughts? Perhaps it doesn't work on cars exported to USA?
Thanks! I think the mode is coded out in some world regions - they don't trust you with the extra power!
Didn't he say to press the DTC button, not the iDrive button?
2005 645ci (US) and it seems to at least go into that mode. Haven't had a chance to test it out yet, but I will later today.
Let us know how you got on!
@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation Yup, went into that mode. I didn't do any timed testing to see if it's any quicker than sport mode, I have fun regardless of which mode it's in. :)
Timm, nice info! Seems like the button has the same behavior on my 1998 E38 740iL. Press once, light comes on. Press and hold for 15 sec or so, light comes on with the first press then goes out after holding it. Then pressing the button again does not light up the DSC light again.
I haven’t been able to notice too much of a difference in behavior though with that car. I will try later on my 2001 750iL M Sport though to see if it makes any difference on the M73TU compared to the M62.
Yes, the same on my E31
So how do we know the models for which performance mode works?
I would think my 2006 750Li would be very similar to your 6-Series…..
My 04 645ci is a revelation in performance mode. 😮
They don't hang around!
Hi Tim, are you positive that the traction control is still enabled when you put it into performance mode and is safe? Pressing the DTC button for anything would still make you think that the traction control has been altered. At the end of the video you said, "Watch yourself!" was this a warning? I am slightly confused.
Absolutely sure - I do a test near the end of the video where I put a rear wheel on sand and give it some beans - the ASC+T light comes ON and the power is restricted, as soon as I am out of the sand I'm off!
mine is a 2012 650i definitely be giving that a try In the morning will let you know if it makes any difference on mine
Good man!
@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation tried on my one didn’t notice any change to any settings or performance mate just seemed to be the same as normal. That been said mine isn’t the M Sport model it’s just 650i SE not sure if that’s any difference. Hard trying to find a m sport in that model
Hi Tim , will you ever install an lsd diff in your 650?
I don't think so, the ratio is pretty good as it is - traction is the limitation
Will try it on my 635D!!
Let us know how you get on!
Tried it on mine
Didn’t really notice any difference
Hey timm, does your 6 series have active steering?
No, thank goodness!
It is a bit funny story of mine, some years ago with friends we did some measures with racelogic from 0-100 km/h and best result I got was around 6.8 of a second. Which was quite good but not good enough for E39 540iA. The car didn't have vanoses rebuild nor the timing chain / timing chain guides replaced so that was out explanation for rather poor performace. So it's funny how nobody knew about the secret mode. All test were done of course in Sports mode with DSC off. Ha ha.
Good man!
Hi Tim, I have a misfire fault with an 850csi that I could do with some help diagnosing. Would you be able to help?
Yes, I'm on Bimmerforums.com and .co.uk
I did this and my check engine light came on and won’t go off, I had it scanned and they said no codes showed up and they tried to reset the check engine light, it wouldn’t reset
Hello Timm.....i tried it on my 645ci SMG and it really looks like it got much more alive this way.....how did you find this anyway???
I knew about the system when I owned an E32 and thought I would give it a go on the 6-Series, glad I did!
Will give it ago on our. How will it change the exhaust sound bit confused on this one ?
Beats me too, probably a different engine map - Sports mode has a similar effect!
@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation I'm new to BMWs, having bought a 2007 e66 750Li, and from something I read about the N62 explaining how the intake manifold has moving internal pieces, and then the variable valve timing, I would guess that when it's in the performance engine map as you mention that it's operating at a higher cylinder pressure due to getting more charge in the cylinders and that gives the aggressive exhaust sound.
(EDIT: I changed to "cylinder pressure". That's what I was thinking but first typed compression ratio.)
I just went out and tried it in my 2008 E63 630i (N53) and I couldn't tell any difference to be honest. Same noise, same performance. It changes up at 7k rpm normally and this was also unchanged.
N62 engines only and up. You have an old engine unfortunately
That's a shame, it makes a huge difference with the N62TUB
How it was for my 650i? I definitely need valve steam seals now haha
I'm sure it good for them!
Tried this on a E93 335i, didn't notice a change. Is the transmission suppose to be in D or DS or M?
It doesn't matter, but I was using 'D'
Works in a 335i as well. On my 650, sounds better, faster and same as yours. My 2007, 335i, similar to the 650, fast acceleration, sound really cool and flys down the road!
Works in the 328i 08 as well... I was surprised even though the 328i isn't that fast it felt different and very responsive up to even the shifts being less lazy. Wonder what this enabled in the DME and why it can't be saved without doing it everytime you start up
Excellent!
Works in my E63 630i! Time for testing with the onboard computer!
Great stuff! That's 630's, 645's and 650's that it works for!
Does it work in 540i e39 ?
Yup
There's your answer then!
Hi Timm. Can I just double check. Are there two performance modes? First one: press DTC. Press DTC again and hold for ~10 seconds. Second one: Press DTC and hold for ~15 seconds?
Following
Sorry to have confused you! Just press the DTC button for 20 seconds and you will be raring to go!
Does it work in a 645
Give it a go and let us know how you get on!
Ty
worked for me
Pretty sure I know the fella in the purple 2 series 🤣
Sorry, he had to be thrashed!
It was me !@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation
complete opposite of limp mode.
I'll call it unlimp mode......
