Johnathan was nice enough to show me his 1980 Toyota Corolla. Love the classic RWD coupe styling. Plus he let me see his other awesome family cars. So much classic Toyota in one garage!
Then we went out for some classic ricer fun. Exhaust backfires on purpose and some classy wine glass action. Please go check out his channel and his instagram.

I'll be your new son if you pin it 😂💀
Took me a bit, but I got it! :P
You pinned it! I knew you were the right one 😁
I'd never abandon family. 😂
Classic Toyota Corolla..... The car that keeps running like a top.
Certainly seems reliable! Love it.
Love that style corolla. You can’t beat the older generation of cars. So simple and clean!
I know! So simple and cool. Would love to have one of these someday. It's like the Toyota equivalent of a Datsun 510.
Yes! The old boxy style is fantastic.
Totally agree. One reason I love the MkI MR2 also!

@@zebsdreamgarage9898 No problem at all! Even if you just tell me which level you'd support at if you could and why, that would be pretty awesome. Or if you wouldn't, that's a good answer too. Open to any feedback. Sorry for the delayed reply.

@@zebsdreamgarage9898 Thanks dude, it means a lot. :)
I can't wait for spring especially to really crank out more awesome content. :D
Maybe come help you with your cars too, hah.
That wine glass though!
Is your UA-cam screwing up and posting multiple comments too? XD
Thats the most beautiful Toyota i have ever seen
Isn't it cool? Super classic.
Man you were able to retrofit new seats into that? Mad respect. If I had a time machine....
It was a really clean car!
This is awesome! Had this exact same car when I was in high school more than 30 years ago.
That's sweet! I love these old thangs.
AE86!!!!! Omg my DREAM CAR!!!!!
They are so cool. :D
Hell yeah, gotta keep hustlin'.
I love seeing the family of Corollas filling the garage and driveway. Awesome seeing the next generation picking up the habit - I mean hobby.
Hahaha, habit for sure. Destined to be broke for life. :P
Thanks, Jeff! Someday your driveway will be clogged with drift cars. ;)
Wish they still made the toyota corolla in rwd. Fwd is cheaper to make and lighter. But also... RWD is life.
Totally agree. I'm hoping they bring back the Celica in a RWD form. We'll see what happens.
Classic...
Late 70s Honda or Subaru, and Datsun are very collectable.
Years back I had a 78 Civic wagon with a manual choke, seeing this 80 Toyota reminded me of that car.
Cool seeing people go retro....
Ah I love the Japanese classics. Too bad they used to be seen as so disposable. Thanks a lot for the comment!
Scotty will love you
Hahaha, right? XD
My 1st car was a 83 corolla 2dr. So cool to see people stoked on these old rides. After, Driving one back in the day. I would never imagine that people in the future would want these.
Really awesome. I'd love to have one. Can't beat a lightweight RWD coupe!
It's been a long time since I've seen one of those cool old Toyota hemi's. Back in 1981 I swapped a 1.6L 2TC from a 1975 Corolla into my 1964 VW van. Instantly doubled my horsepower!
Now that's a swap I've never heard of! Too cool. Funny how a tiny engine like that can still double HP. My dad was a VW mechanic for years back then so I've heard all sorts of stories. Thanks for commenting!
@@802Garage The 1500 cc flat four was 53 HP, the 2TC was about 110 HP. My first choice was a 2.0L Pinto engine for the swap, but the Pinto probably would have broke the '64 Bus trans-axle and the overhead cam made the engine too tall. Not a problem for a couple of people I knew that did that swap, they just cut out the top of the engine bay and built a hinged box to cover the engine and give clearance. But my van was a camper and it would have screwed up the fold down bed in the back. Couldn't have that! ;^)
A '73 Chevy truck radiator is the same size as the engine compartment lid on the old VW Van, so hanging a rad on the rear bumper worked out great, just made simple straps to attach to the radiator and the eng cover hinge bolt holes in the opening.
Sorry for the super delay. That all sounds pretty awesome. What happened to it?
@@802Garage I started doing a body restoration/mod to it, replacing all the rubber seals, built a fiberglass front air dam/spoiler, flared the fenders and side skirts. Never finished it, lost interest and ended up trading it for a Honda 500 dirt bike and a 250cc Honda Odyssey. Sold the bike and traded the Odyssey and some cash for a 750 Ninja powered 1959 Berkeley. Still have the Berkeley, but its going on Craigslist soon. Always another project. 8-)
THREE nice cars in that driveway/garage? Impressive!
I know, right?! I have like 10 cars and have about 1.5 nice cars combined! Hahaha.
My first car. Loved that lil car
Wish I could get one!
who needs two step when an old 4 banger Toyota could break wine glass
Hahaha, right? It was pretty funny! Got any cars like this where you are?
@@802Garage nah. Most cars here will be scraped over 10 years.
That's so sad. :'(
Need to pick up some Toyota’s like this gentlemen and his dad. Why is plastic on the exhaust of his fathers car.
The exhaust dancing is also hilarious.
I know! I want one someday too. Not even a huge Toyota guy, but these are awesome. He already explained the plastic. Running over Hondas. ;)
But yeah the exploded can was pretty good.
Literally my dream garage jus need the 75 n 70 corolla
They are really cool!
Great video. That JDM Kid has a new subscriber!!
Thanks a lot! He is a good dood.
Thanks for the introduction to That JDM Kid!
No problem! Super nice guy with cool cars.
If only the AE86 still had the 4AGE, i would love it even more
I think it is, just a "black top" not the original.
@@802Garage yep tuned by Yamaha
Seems like anything Yamaha touches on cars is gold.
3TC 1.8L👌
Yep, he loves 'em!
Nice rides! My first ride was a 83 Celica RWD fast back. I grew to really appreciate this era of imports. I know the Puerto Rican community in town love their old Toyotas!
Oh yeah Puerto Ricans can do wild things with all of these cars. So badass. Thanks for sharing! I def have a soft spot for back when this was the formula.
ur build is mad clean i got the same car, building it myself
Belonged to That JDM Kid. Unfortunately I think this car was wrecked, but he has others.
Fantástic video
Thank you! Love these cool old cars.
Puerto Rico!!! Toyoteros 😎
I really like that hydrodip valve cover, I have had a hydro dip kit on my eBay watch list for months I need to pull the trigger.
Yeah he did a great job! Are they expensive kits? I've never really looked into it, though I do powder coating.
@@802Garage there pretty reasonable like 70 bucks it starts getting expensive when you want to dip larger things the sheets come in pretty small sizes
@@GeorgeJFW Ah, that's not too bad. I'm sure it probably holds up better than the spray paint water technique too.
He burned the hell outta his fingers when he touched that exhaust 😂
Haha, I didn't even notice.
Badasssery
It's pretty sweet!
Did I just see del sol seats in that ae86??
That JDM kid I love it tbh! We’re rocking the same seats in our EK Frankenstein Civic. Getting harder to find a set in good shape. Love all the Toyota’s man, keep up the good work!
I always love mixing brands. A cool seat is a cool seat! I didn't even know.
(I'm late.)
Very cool, you just don’t see cars like that in Canada, the rust got to them all.😢
Same with Vermont, since we are basically Canada. :(
I like the red one...
Hah, definitely a sought after car. Maybe I'll have one someday. :P
This was quite interesting. If I could have any classic car it would be one like this that people would have to ask me "what the heck is that?" Glad your channel is growing, my only suggestion is to have somewhat of an upload schedule. Even if it's once a week it's good to know when I can expect a video. Like RCR I can count on my monday morning BROWN. Then again I have yet to make a single video, when I do I'll have you make a guest appearance as Scotty. PEACE!
Hah totally get that. I like oddball or lesser known cars too!
Completely my bad on the uploads, obviously. I've been so busy with home stuff the last couple weeks I didn't even realize how long it had been since an upload. Ideally it should be every 3 days max, preferably every other day. Trying to get back into that swing right now. I appreciate that input for sure.
If you do plan on making a vid let me know and I'll see if I can shoot a fun clip for you, hahaha.
Lol good vid. Sucks that the exhaust fell apart. Not a fan of Toyota generally but those are definitely some cool cars.
Yeah while I'm not a huge Toyota person, these cars are siiick. Also love the MR2 and a certain Toyota engines of course.
People gotta remember....is not a J.D.M IF IS A LEFT HAND DRIVE.....IS JUST A TOYOTA NORTH AMERICA OR CANADA....IS A J.D.M IF STEERING IS ON LEFT SIDE
Oh we 100% know, hahaha. His channel name is just "That JDM Kid" IDK if we said something else dumb in the video. Usually if I call a RHD car JDM I'm making a joke. 😂
there is just something about older japanese cars. i'm not sure what it is, they are just cool
Tell me about it! I think part of it is they appeal to a wider audience because they look Japanese and yet they almost look like miniature American muscle cars.
Cool cars. I like their approach, too: buy an old Toyota, put a turbo in it. :)
Hahaha, seems like a winning formula! I think I'll try similar. ;)
@@802Garage I won't discourage you. :D
Good man! :P
very cool
Thanks. Make sure to check out his channel.
That corolla dx once popular in my country. It vanished since 2015 i think
Ah that's too bad. Where are you from? Pretty rare around here!
@@802Garage indonesia
Ah, it's always so interesting how car cultures differ.
Omg ive been waiting to see a corolla build
Make sure you sub to That JDM Kid!
802 Garage will do!
I formally owned a 99 Corolla, loved the bulletproof engine, sold it 4 years after purchase for the same 2k I paid for it. Then bought my dream car, an 03 celica gt. Just subbed. I made a few videos on my Russian camo celica, check it out if you got time, thx, keep up the great videos
Can't help but love Toyota reliability! I always liked the styling on that gen of Celica. Would be really cool if it was possible to make one AWD. I'll check out some vids! Thanks a lot.
Second
🙏 Thank you!
Jonathan keep it up brother!
Bro, do some cool cars. K5 blazers, box chevys, 240sx, supra, etc.
Hahaha, what's up Cleatus! I'm trying. :'(
I'm sure you'll dig the V10 once I get it going.
is that littleton? what is that gray device you got hooked up to the cigarette lighter in the corolla?
I believe it was Aurora area. I think that's a hard drive he uses to store music. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@802Garage yea looks like a hard drive

100k miles and its in that condition is pretty good. love the wood steering wheel. trying to track down the right one for my '77 lancer and then custom make a wood gearstick to match. anyone happen to know what those little trolley things under the wheels of the 86 are called?? those might come in handy for when when im trying to move the broken things around ahaha
Im sad that te72 isn't yours
Me too! Would love to find one of these someday. Don't think there are any in good shape in New England. :P
You should fix the exhaust haha
Who doesn't love a wobbly fart can? :P
Just kidding bud!
@@802Garage I don't like the idea of the exhaust falling off duriing driving, and going through someone's windshield.
@@thatjdmkid8170 dude I really think you should fix it, you never know what could happen.
I think he fixed it shortly after this. Obviously wasn't doing any good on the car. XD
The white one....are those datsun b210 rims on it...cmmon....baby supras...
Haha no idea TBH.
Where abouts in Vermont are you located?
Northeast near St. Johnsbury and Lyndonville. You in the state?
@@802Garage Yeah, I'm located in Underhill, currently going to college though out of states, but nonetheless Vermont grown
Oh gotcha that's awesome! Well if you're back for the summer I'll hopefully be hosting some car meets while you're around.
I'm wanting to buy a project Corolla should I go for the 72 or the 80 model?
I'm not expert, but I did some brief research. It seems to me that the '72 is more of a classic that would be a bit rarer, more expensive, and possibly harder to get parts for. The '80 is probably a better platform for modding and would be somewhat better for high power. As for the style, that's up to you. I like both. You could def go over to That JDM Kid's channel and ask his opinion too. Thanks for watching and commenting!
In my personal experience with my 80 its cheaper to mod for front coilovers already, rather than struts.i recomend a upper sway bar at the top of the suspension towers in the engine bay for any high speed activitys
where you at in Colorado?
Was just visiting, unfortunately! I live in Vermont.
802 the new 1320?
Hahaha oh I only wish!
Someday!
10:40 what car is that? looks like a scion, but I am not sure...
Yep, Scion xB!
@@802Garage well, this scion xB and the scion xD are the most similiar cars to the Toyota Porte that you could buy in the USA...I heard they were appreciated by pensioners and retired people because they were very practical and very easy to get in and get out, although in the first place those cars were meant to be for the young people...
you can read this article
www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/lianeyvkoff/2016/02/03/how-millennials-and-boomers-killed-scion/amp/
Hahaha, sort of like the Suzuki SX-4 here! It was very affordable and somewhat capable. I'm sure they were hoping to capture youth sales, but instead every old person who couldn't afford a Subaru bought one! Scion def didn't go according to plan.
Hows the v10 build doing?
To quote myself in another comment "Let's just say I'm behind, but I am getting really pumped." Unfortunately I have spent more days shoveling and cleaning the garage than doing any car work lately, but it's all progress. Just set up my new tool chest and tools finally and got new shop lighting. More on that soon. Gonna make a big difference!
where did he get the Corolla
No idea go ask him on Instagram. :)
Hey Bro, what kinda rims are those on 1972 Corolla and what size are they???
I have no clue unfortunately. Go check out That JDM Kid and ask him. :)
What is the engine specs of 1981 1.6 Toyota Corolla S.E. Liftback?
Unfortunately not something I can help with much. There must be articles or Corolla forums that cover it much better than I can. Good luck!
a Toyota huh, who you trying to impress Scotty? LOL
Hahaha, maaaybe! :P
Nah, he hates me no matter what. ;)
@@802Garage tell the truth; your his illegitimate son. LOL. I hear Scotty used to get around...
Oh God I hope not!

Where THE FUCK is the v10 magnum Subaru ....i'm pissed
Still at my hooouuuse. It's coming. You must be patient as I have to be with the massive blizzards we keep getting, hahaha. Nah, but seriously I'm sorry there hasn't been more progress. It's def not abandoned though.

It's just an exhaust. Doesn't damage the car or anything. 🤷♂️
Classic and Toyota doesn't fit
How not?
