Sex addiction is hell. You don't have to be a sicko or a pervert. Just have a craving for it and not get enough or none at all. It's hell. To talk about it is bad because people will dismiss it by saying, "You need to grow up" and so on. The worst part is that it's not recognized in the medical world as an addiction.

Sex addiction is rooted in early infant attachment, dysfunctional emotional upbringing, and other childhood abuse. Your brain may have some genetic predisposition towards seeking highs and such, but I've never met an addict, sex or drugs, who didn't have a highly dysfunctional home growing up

Self awareness and deepening of witnessing of thoughts and impulses without engaging with them. Rewiring sexual understanding (slow sex, tantra) and practice with someone with whom you really feel deeply connected. Our society is sick but you can come out of this.
I had this really heavy moment tonight where I realized I've been going back and forth with this addiction since I was a kid. I am wondering if I will ever get to the root of why I feel so empty afterwards. I feel like I've wasted my life. What has helped you the most in your journey. I feel like I need a reset.
God I’m struggling with this. Quit smoking, then more recently alcohol and lost 33 pounds in my current diet. But the skeleton in my closet? I can’t stop getting off everyday, sometimes multiple times a day. Must fight the urge.

These are bonding hormones. During this time, the intimacy of the couple is stronger.
There are psychological effects in halting this process. The same with participating in this process with the person you don't love & vice versa.

Same here. Lost weight and I felt as if I was normal before, but now I have to multiple times a night to get through the next day. It’s like an alarm clock that won’t let me sleep.
Since taking setraline my addiction has lessened but I think it proves it makes you face up on where happened to you

I have recently cut ties with someone because he admitted he has a sex addiction. He seems to have no remorse about some of the things he does. But he is aware that he is messing up his life. I had to let him go because I had a father and ex-partner with addictions and I don’t want to be the therapist or the one helping them to heal. Setting a boundary is tough. It hurts my heart. He is a great guy. But he deserves better. If he heals, I don’t mind meeting him again.
It'll be easier for a woman I think, because finding a willing partner is not hard. But for a man, it's a living nightmare.

One of the problems in dealing with this is stigma. There’s no Drug Offender Registry but there’s a Sex Offender Registry, for a reason. Of course you can look up convictions for drug offenses in America, but there’s no separate database to shame.
Anyone convicted of sexuality abusing a child should be shamed and named and hounded to the ends of the earth. People should fear ever abusing a child.
@@CCmagee3 that’s not how it works. Most people wouldn’t be deterred by that, they think they could get away with it until they don’t. Unless we address the psychological and structural issues we’re never gonna solve this. No European country for instance has a sex offender registry and almost every eu country has far fewer sex offenses per capita than the US.

Damn, I do have a problem. It's so weird how in the beginning I use to cling on to 1 person. Now after dozens more, I replace them so quickly. As if I'm using them as tissue paper. Like the romatic high feels amazing. However after I finally fuck, something inside my brain switches. Like I am no longer interested in the person anymore. I ask myself, "who else is better than this person out there. I need to know who is better than this person." I cannot settle. I don't wish to settle. I want to feel that honey moon rush feelings all over again. That new sex feel, with a new woman again. I have issues. But why does something that feels to wrong, feels so damn good? I'm gentle on women, but their heartbreaks tell me otherwise. At least I do my best to help them land on two mattresses when they fall in love with me. I am the emotional Rollercoaster dads warn their college daughters about.

Ey! That’s right. You nails it right on the head! Sometimes I tried to understand where and how these urges come about. I traced it back I was abused as a child. The angry ness I feel knowing that tend to be a hidden spot I kept referring myself to. I was a kid no idea 🤷🏾♂️
One of the methods of abuse is being exposed to sexual material in early childhood. At that young age are ill equipped to battle such material thus the sexually explicit material enters our mind and makes a significant impact

You are correct. I am sure there are many topics that one can talk about and childhood where most of this sort of addictive tendencies start is the right place to look into. However for a three and a half minute video they can’t say much.

I think that goes back to relational therapy as psychological theory that helps during therapy sessions. Most counselors when reviewing your history can easily find a route to see how that effects you. For example, in molestation you could have two effects later in life:
1. A complete turn off towards sex
2. A promiscuous outlook and tendencies
Age 28 here. Initially started off viewing porn. Almost 14 years into compulsive porn habit. 5 years ago i started paying for sex. Wasted $25,000. Got nothing out of it.
In therapy, working with young kids, been clean 5 months now and im already able to see so many blessings. I saved $8,000, connected with my family on a deeper level, just applied at Cal State East Bay for Masters program in clinical psychology.
Remember one thing, when a man has no purpose in life, he'll distract himself with pleasure.
I'm 30, still have my job that I love, family, hobbies. I just have to.stay consistent and remind myself of the consequences i faced all these years.

What difference does it make whether it's a sex addiction or not? If someone cheated on you, the relationship and the trust are broken. Trying to discern whether someone is some kind of sexual sociopath, just callously seeking physical gratification without remorse, or whether they are acting out with some degree of conscience doesn't really matter. Either way, it's a compulsion, it's a lie and out of integrity. Sexual acting out always comes from emotional injury. Any time sex is compartmentalized emotionally from a loving committed relationship, there is something emotionally, psychologically and spiritually out of whack. It's never just some biological urge. If it were, everyone would do it.

It’s not only men who suffer from sex addiction. I’m a woman and a sex addict. I can tell you here and now I’m not a pedophile. Sex addiction and pedophilia is completely different. I’m addicted to having sex with adults, watching porn, phone sex etc. whereas pedophiles find children attractive and prey on them. Only people I may prey on is other men or women but it’s always a mutual thing, if someone doesn’t see me that way I may be angry but I respect it because I know how it is when you say no and someone sexually assaults you as I’ve e experienced in the past. I have sought therapy and I’m on a waiting list for more. I also attend a 12 step programme. Sex addiction is something that will never got away even if I manage to get sober I will likely still need to attend the 12 step meetings for the rest of my life as I have spoken to people there who have been attending them for years.

I don’t know if what I have is sex addiction because I do have control over it. But I have urges and even though I could spend a few days without masturbating, I normally masturbate twice a day. I do it because I can and doesn’t interfere with my life. (btw I’m a woman) At least I think it doesn’t interfere with my life but I do cancel plans just because I know I’ll be better masturbating on my bed.
I don’t have a trauma nor a tragic story or a past abusive relationship. I don’t have something to explain it and that’s what scares me, it means it’s just me.

How do I talk about or even bring up my sex addiction with new partners or people that I want to date that won’t understand what it’s like or get freaked out by me
If you are seriously working on your own healing from sex addiction why is it necessary to lay it on new people in your life? Of course it might freak them out as if you have to discuss it with them they may assume you define yourself by it but we don't have to define ourselves by our personal struggles. Also, it may be TMI and overwhelming for a new person in a new relationship. Wait until later and just work on the issue. If someone new I had a crush on revealed he or she is a "sex addict" right off the bat I might head for the exit as well. Work on the issue, don't define yourself by it.
