Families of Boksburg gas leak victims inconsolable

- Relatives of the people who died from a gas leak in Boksburg are incosolable this morning. At least 16 residents of the Angelo Informal settlement lost their lives after inhaling nitrate oxide which leaked from a gas cylinder. The highly toxic gas was reportedly used for illegal mining activities. 16 more people remain in hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Newzroom Afrika spoke to some of the distraught families on the scene.

Nitric oxide forms mustard gas in the process of refining gold. It comes in a glass bottle and is in liquid form. Not a gas bottle.

Zama Zamas caused the collapse of a section of road in Orkney a short while back. Road completely closed. Several dead Zama Zamas were found dead the other year in the area as well. Apparently like the wild west with different groups having running gun battles with each other!

Where crime is allowed to escalate, by our leaders, the devil will be in the details ending in total destruction. Did we not learn from previous destructive events whereby our women were raped, where Zamma zammas died, and many more dangerous events mining illegally? My sincere condolences to the families who lost loved ones and precious children. If our leaders keep on doing nothing about these dangerous crimes, they should stand to be accused of treason against our people and country!!!!!
As South africabs, we suffer from goldfish memory. it was not so long ago when we had crime problems committed by illegal miners and Bheki Cele was out doing imbizoes and all that was just to serve our short memories coz here we are again with the same illegal mining issues. The anc government will come up with another imbizo and we will firget again coz that is our disease

@@dorothy7869 By your vote for the ANC, one of whose many duties, is to control the border. So, who lets them in? Why - Customs of course, that's with or without a passport, never mind a permit. As long as you have the R350 to hand to the Home Affairs official to let you in illegally. In fact, you can even take your children across the border without documentation. Over and above that, you can take somebody else's children across the border without documents, as long as you have the stipulated R350 for them to let you through. In another country, this would be considered child trafficking, but South Africans think its 'friendly'. Did you lose your way from the Yellow Brick Road again Dorothy? Try using the two brain cells that you have to think things through before jumping on the bandwagon and telling others they don't know what they are talking about. LPG cylinder does not contain nitric or any Nitrous oxide. LPG contains mainly Propane or Butane and is very toxic.
