When you think of the thousands of Canadian boys that died in that bloody mess, my heart swells with pride as Brian marches, alone, down that street. They earned it.

I had the honour of marching the Menin Gate, with my cadet’s. We participated in the nightly ceremony’s... to this day it is the biggest honour I’ve ever done in my life.. it was hard trying not to cry in formation, when we heard the last post I had a chill go up my spine... let’s never forget the fallen.

I am Canadian, but my ancestors were born elsewhere. In my heart I feel like my family and very extended family were Canadian. I would die for this Country.🇨🇦

+LEGOCREATOR Yeah, I love all that mud and slaughter and pain and suffering and the fact that, because most of the dead were never recovered, the whole area is one big cemetary filled with the remains of unnecessarily killed millions. Love it.

Such a lovely ceremony and its held every day! I remember going to it when i was in Ypres its a very haunting walk actually after going through the museum in the old cathedral. Though i wouldn't change any of it for the world.

And remember - though hard to believe - the Menin Gate is only a fraction of the men remembered for their sacrifice in that area of the line. There are more on the rear wall of Tyne Cot Cemetery, and more New Zealanders at Buttes and Messines Ridge. Despite the size of the Gate, not all of the names could fit on it.

My late father's Canadian cousin would be very saddened to witness the seeming indifference shown by members of the public shown to the piper. He was a member of the liberating force. Shame on the locals shown in this clip.
