The youtube Algorithm recomended your channel. And i never saw someone modding like that a notebook. I really love that series. Take care and cheers from Argentina!
Your modding series is a really great watch my dude! I keep watching them whenever I work as a way to learn more while working. keep it up! I hope you do a series where you mod old modular laptops that support Mxm GPUS like the MSI titan, alienware area 51!
I saw the whole series dedicated to modding the XMG Laptop: you did an impressive job, congratulations! You have been a great inspiration and help for me, I intend to do the same (nickel plating) with the heatsink of my rog, to be able to apply the liquid metal also on the gpu, and avoid the oxidation of the copper in the long run. My Notebook (Asus Rog Strix G532LWS) comes out of the factory prepared for the use of liquid metal on the cpu, however, the cpu tends to saturate all the heat sink (having the heatpipes in common with the gpu) and therefore it results that the gpu it tends to have higher temperatures, using MX-4 thermal paste, which as we know has a much lower thermal conductivity than liquid metal ... I hope to be able to achieve what I have in mind, and above all that it works!
Just stumbled on your modding adventures videos. Very thorough and informative! I have a 17inch Clevo with intel chip/2070super and I am keen to try my hand at adding extra cooling soon. (Liquid would be nice, but maybe even just adding a heatsink/fin stack and using gravity to apply pressure when mounted in my homemade blower stand.)
are you planning to get the new apex 15 max with ryzen 5000 and rtx 3070? i'm debating on whether or not to buy it, it drives me nuts that they don't make a 17 inch version as it would allow for a larger heatsink and therefore better thermals(i'd get it with 5950x) but i'd like to see how the 15inch holds up. there's no reviews for it at the moment but they probably not present it as good as you did this one. i'm looking forward to the future of this channel:) deffinitely subbed and turned all notifications on edit: 7 minutes later and i'm now even more interested in what will come:))
Yes I got the XMG APEX 15 MAX with a 5950X here. Please note that only XMG sells this barebone with properly working VRM. All other vendors underperform heavily. The 5950X in this laptop runs smoothly, but the idle power draw is very high. All those cores want to get fed. Keep that in mind. Overall the thermals are not too bad, especially the 2CCD CPUs (5900X, 5950X) run cooler than the 1CCD ones unless you don't stress the GPU simultaneously. Depending on your use-case the 5950X is a good or a bad choice. For gaming it's overkill and a bad choice. For simulations, content creation and such a good one. Spoiler: For gamers the 5800X3D might work in the APEX MAX together with a new BIOS in near future. CB20 multicore performance with the 5950X in the APEX can vary a lot (6400-7200 points). But after tuning it with AMD's CurveOptimizer feature (latest RyzenMaster) it can perform noticable better (7400-8000 points). Check out my website to see some results I got with a software called "Hydra" by 1usmus.
@@TechModLab thanks for the very fast reply, i'm looking for a 5950x because this will probably be my laptop for the next 4-5 years and i will use it for occasional gaming, a decent amount of autocad and some photoshop on the side, maybe i will learn some video editing as well. All of those and the general use like web browsing, watching youtube on the side. I think the 3070 will hold up decently in the long run so that's not an issue. Configured with 32gb of ram(samsung) and 5950x and a 3070 and a 1tb samsung 980ssd on the bestware/xmg site it will be around 2300-2400 euros which i found to be the best price/performance on the market right now. After taking into account the upgradeability this seems like the best laptop for my use scenarios. Intel would also be nice but for the same kind of performance it's about 500-700 euros more which isn't worth it really. Will definitely take a look on your website as i'm really interested in how this cpu performs.
@@nuclearmango8067 If your main focus is gaming the 5950X is not the fastest CPU because it is almost always running into power limits. The 5900X would be the better choice here tbh. The 12-core 5900X got more than enough power for autoCAD and VideoEditing. Besides video editing softwares make more and more use of the GPU over the CPU. And that you need one core each application running in the background (youtube, browsing on the side) is a rumor. You will most likely not make use of more than 8 or 12 cores in your use-case. The 5950X would be overkill and would make your overall experience less pleasant IMHO. I would grab the 5900X
@@TechModLab well, seeing as it's not even available at the moment, I'll probably get it with the 5900x, after all i can always upgrade it to the 5950x if need be and I could sell the 5900x in that case. Thanks for the advice. Gaming isn't the primary focus now, at least for the next 3 years it won't be due to university and the amount of projects I've got to do, but during summer time like now yeah, gaming is gonna make up like half the time I spend on it, though i gotta get rid of my current Alienware 17r4 which is starting to show its age, the 4 core 7700hq is barely liveable with and the 1070 is still holding up remarkably well but yeah it still hurts when I've got to multitask on it.
@@TechModLab understood( It's sad that after with covid all real enthusiast level laptops just died quietly. And now we get only marketing like new GT77, which will be called GE or GL just 3 years ago. Thank you for answer :)
Do you have an old BIOS binary? usually the flash software does support some "force" option (usually "-f" parameter) to flash older versions over a newer one. You can google that.
@@TechModLab Dell only gives exe file for old bios. Then im converting it to hdr file and trying to flaah with usb. But it refuses to install it gives me error like unsupported.
hi. Respect for your work! its great. do you have site or thread on forums with your work? how i can get your unlocking bios for my APEX 15 b450? you tested this platform (b450) with any CPU 5XXX? maybe you can flash (porting) (with programmer tool like ch341) bios from b550 to b450 (platform is same, like clevo p775dm3 and p775tm for support 9xxx series cpu). Do you have email? I would be happy to chat with you
Your laptop modding series was utterly fascinating and I'm looking forward to your next projects. God bless you, brother.
