- Ahoy Maties! Do ya'll like fish and chicken ala Long John Silvers? Well, here's a batter recipe for ya that tastes so much like it you'll start talking like a Pirate! So shiver me timbers and batten' them hatches and give this a try! Here's the recipe:
Fish or Chicken
3/4 Cup all purpose Flour
2 Tbsp. Cornstarch
1 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Baking Powder
1/4 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 tsp Onion Powder
1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
1/8 tsp Paprika
3/4 cup Club Soda
Oil for Frying
Pat dry your chicken or fish cut into medium sized pieces and set aside. Mix all dry ingredients with the club soda and stir until batter is smooth and thick. Dip your chicken or fish in batter and place in heated oil, being careful not to crowd pieces in your skillet or fryer. Cook for 5 minutes or so on each side or until golden brown. Test and ensure the inside is done (chicken 165 degrees and fish around 160 degrees internal temp). Remove from oil and drain on paper towels or cooling rack. Serve hot with tartar or cocktail sauce, slaw and hushpuppies. Ya'll gonna love this! Ladies thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I love Long John Silver's chicken and ours closed here as well so I will definitely be trying this in my deep fryer. God Bless
Love this - can't ever count on Long John Silvers food being very good, so this is a great way to save money too
can’t wait to try this batter….thank you 😊
Let us know how you like it.
In MN and WI we use beer instead of club soda. To maintain frying temp you need a cast iron skillet.
Yes, that was an option to use beer also. Thanks for the tip! Next time we will try the cast iron. Thanks for watching and for your comment.
Next time I go to the store, I need to remember club soda. Will definitely try this.
Yes! Who would have thought that is what made their batter so yummy!
Just tried this recipe, and I love it. It's not as salty, but that's a huge plus. Thanks for sharing. 💙
@@alisagumm8547 That's great! So glad you liked it. You could probably add some salt, but we're trying to watch our salt intake. I bet it would taste closer to LJS if you did add some. Don't you?
Hello...My favorite Fish and Chicken restaurant is Arthur Treachers and there's only 1 left in my area of NE Ohio and its about 23-30 minutes depending on the time of day and traffic from where I live. Since I'm not able to drive I have to depending my daughter and since she's not a fan I only get to go about 1 time a year. Funny thing I'm not a seafood lover but do like cod and tuna salad but I also love Arthur Treachers chicken. Thanks for sharing this recipe. Bye from Ohio 🌹
I wasn't aware that Any of the Arthur Preachers were still in business.
That was always my personal favorite.
So Good😍
Yes, Long John silver's use cod fish and chicken planks, peg legs also in that batter. Thank you both!
Well, bless your little hearts for trying!!
?
This dish looks delicious ❤
Oh wow this looked amazing and your right when you say the locations are disappearing they took them away in our area and replaced with Starbucks and I don't drink coffee😥Besides we didn't need another Starbucks branch anyway but hey....I will definitely have to try this recipe for sure thanks ladies for a great video
You're welcome, Sharyn. Thanks for watching.
Ladies, you're just adorable...Thanks for making me smile!

As I also said below, LJS and Red Lobster charges TOO DAMNED MUCH anymore. Just like LJS, I used to go all the time in my 20s during the college days. You could get 2 pieces of fish and fries for $2.99. Or, I think it was called THREE FOR THREE. You could pick (1) fish or chicken, (2) two pieces of fish, or (3) two chicken planks for $2.99. Or, also pick between coleslaw and fries or whatever side. Corn cob too, I think. But, now, that's THREE TIMES what it used to be. For us, it's too much. NEVER AGAIN.
Yep! Everything costs way to much these days. Thank goodness we found this great recipe so that we can still have the yummy goodness, just at home. :)
That looks great ❤❤❤❤
I worked at L.J.S. for years they use Pollock not cod and they trimmed the fat from it and cut to serving size.
Awesome! Thanks for letting us know! We'd heard different things but it's good to hear it from someone who actually worked there! Thanks for the 4-1-1 and thanks for watching!
Best frying temperature is 375*F
Look delicious, I cannot wait to try it
WE HAVE LONG JOHN SILVERS HERE IN KANSAS AND MISSOURI!
Yum thank you ladies
Great video thanks for sharing
I visited Hungary in fall of 2019! Also, Austria, Slovakia, and Czech Republic. Watching from NE Georgia here, 30mins North of Athens.
I LOVE LONG JOHN SILVERS!
Why not use Ale for your "fizz"? I think that's more traditional and I love it!
Didn't even think of that!
Thank you for this. I Subscribed and Liked. Just found your channel today.
Thanks ladies
LOVE Y'ALL CAN Y'ALL WHISTLE?
What else can your tongue handle....? 😂.
Great recipe, going to try it out...eating out is unaffordable with this massive bidenflation!
Yes, it is getting harder and harder for families to eat out. It really did taste like LJS batter! We were thrilled to discover this recipe and try it for ourselves. Thanks for watching.
Not good if you don't know the heat temp.
160° is kinda high for seafood. It should be more like 145°
They was just going by what it’s listed on our meat thermometer. Lol I thought that was a little high too, but I guess that’s well done
Yes, just like everyone is saying here, eating out is TOO EXPENSIVE now. So, we are finding ways to COPYCAT RECIPES that we like. We are still trying to figure out how LJS does their fries. Because NO ONE in their RIGHT MIND is gonna spend $11 or $12.99 for 2 pieces of fish, some soggy & luke-warm fries, tiny half-cup of coleslaw, and 2 or 3 hushpuppies. So, we are learning to be Home Chefs and have quit going to restaurants. Get this -- over this last month, we saved almost-over $300 bucks by not eating out and eating what my wife cooks. And, no more begging (YES BEGGING) for an extra packet of tartar sauce. LJS by us charges 49 cents per packet of tartar sauce. So, for us, NO MORE eating at Lohn John Silver's.
Do you have an air fryer? I've found that fries or tater tots are really good cooked in the air fryer.
Our Red lobster closed down here a d we don't have a long John silver
I had heard that Red Lobster is having financial troubles and may go bankrupt. Makes me sad. - Moe

Get. Popcorn. If. It. Pops. Ready
Do you think that it needed salt?
No, probably not. You could add if you want to.
Also crave white castles, but none around. Have to get the yucky frozen supermarket kind if I want them. blah.
