Ive made this recipe. Its excellent. I have used other addatives including dry mustard and chicken salt. Dry mustard was good. Also, using peanut oil makes a difference and doesnt pick up the fishiness and you can continue to use on other things like chicken. This is an excellent recipe. I did a cookout for a bday party for a lady who loves LJS, several people told me it was the best fish they've ver had.
This is actually the best recipe for LJS or any other type of fried fish. We use this exact recipe in my Washington DC restaurant and have received awards for our product. I'll say I didn't get the receipt from this fine young lady but she is spot on. To round out a few things: Batter then let drip, fry for 3 to 4 minutes per side in 360 degree peanut oil, canola oil or Crisco (the best). Hit it with diamond crystal kosher salt right when it comes out.
@@AlyneWelcometomyKitchen a friend of mine had a daughter who worked for Long Johns, and she it really is almost exact to their recipe. She compared the two, and only one ingredient was missing 🙂 It was some type of a malt seasoning. I like this one though 🙂
What's for supper Alyne hahaha !!! Fish and shrimp I am glad you made that !!! I am going to try it with chicken also it would be tummy then !!! Cornstarch is the flour to give it the crispy taste for us all !!! With chicken after frying I would bake it also !!!

@@coreydbryant I haven't. I don't know if there would be much difference in the overall outcome. I believe the club soda actually reacts to the baking soda and baking powder to give the batter the lightness it has
Do you really think this taste like Long John Silver chicken planks. Mine did not. I did not do this exactly like you, but did leave out the paprika spice and black pepper . I cooked it in new vegetable oil and it cooked perfect, but it has no flavor. Maybe Long John Silver season the precook chicken?
The fish and shrimp taste better than theirs to me. I haven't tried it on the chicken. I always preseason the chicken when I cook it other ways, so I would think preseasoning before using this batter would make it taste better.

Baking soda and soda water is the key and the startch makes it more crispy crunchity 💖
Yes Sir. It is a great batter.
Actually a friend of mine who worked at LJS said they used purified water and the batter mix came in bags so they didn't know what was in it.
Great thanks

I wonder if this would work with beer instead. And also make Onion rings with it
I'm sure it would.

they closed our long john silvers, i've been looking for a good copy cat, thank you
You're very welcome. I hope you enjoy this recipe.
So when you dip it in batter, do you flour the pieces first or do you just dip it In batter and fry?
I pat the fish, shrimp or chicken strip with a paper towel and then dip in the batter.
Cheer~~~a semiliquid mixture of flour, egg, and milk or water used in cooking, especially for making cakes or for coating food before frying.
I seen you said you preseason the chicken do you preseason the fish too
I do. You don't have to but I think it taste better when you do.
What you seasoning it with seasoning salt and black pepper
@@kesha8403 I use my own personal seasoning blend. You can use whatever seasoning you like.
What type of fish do you use
I usually use a white fish. The only thing I know is it is caught in the Gulf off the coast of Florida. My father-in-law gives it to us.
@@AlyneWelcometomyKitchen thanks so will pollock , cod or haddock work too
@@kesha8403 they should work fine. They are all great tasting fish.
is that voice Carl from slingblade?
The only voice besides mine would be my husband. I'm not sure who Carl is on sling blade as I've never seen it.
hI WHAT KIND OF FISH DO YOU USE?
Usually some kind of white fish such as Cod, halibut, Pollock or grouper but you can use whatever you have.

Probably because of the MSG they put in it, I've also seen people use old bay seasoning.
Please consider putting the written recipe in the "more" section...then I can screen shot it. Thank you
