I thought you were supposed to have cuticles because it's alive and helps keep out bacteria that causes infection but I've started to see these Russian Manicures and it looks like they know EXACTLY what they are doing!!
Just because some dont get infected doesnt mean they arent still dangerous. Its very easy to damage nails and the actual skin around your nails on your fingers during day to day life, and if you do when you have nails like this, infection can set in and be very difficult to heal
They may look great but are illegal in some States due to being done "Dry" & increase of infections- not a great idea. Rn here & who wants 5 days of oral antibiotics when inevitably someone will cut you by accident
The cuticle is the dead skin that sticks to the nail as they grow out the thing you are calling the cuticle is actually the proximal nail fold which should not be removed as it is there to prevent infection and bacteria.
I've been doing Russian manicure for 15 years. I don't have any problems. You need to choose a master who sterilizes all the tools. And after the manicure, the infection does not disappear due to the lack of a cuticle. Wash your hands more often with soap, carry antiseptics with you and problems with infections will be minimized.
Yes, my nails were looking very horrible as well. I was moving from one state to the other and I went to get a manicure and unbeknownst to me. I was getting a Russian manicure and I was so pleased. I don’t think I would ever go to a regular manicure again.
There is so much misinformation in this comment section. Cuticle isnt alive its dead flaky skin. If you cut live tissue it bleeds. She's not bleeding people, they just push the proximal nail fold back farther and lift it a bit more than a regular manicure. They use tiny brushes to get under that lifted skin, then the skin settles back down on its own and the polish looks very clean is prettier longer because it takes longer to see that space where the polish starts. I learned to do this on myself, and I'm a nurse, as long as the tools are clean and the person is knowledgeabcle, this is fine.
Girl I asked for cuticle care and the nail technician looked at me cross eyed 🥴… most of these techs especially in the south, just want to put gel on your nails or some acrylic and hop to the next customer.. I’m doing mine at home from now on. Love the video sis
A lot of American nail techs do not know how to do this properly. That is why they don't even offer these kind of services. They would rather cut your nails off and put acrylics on. The United States is way behind when it comes to nail technology. This is originally a European practice.
Actually what ur nail tech is cutting is not the cuticle. The white dead skin underneath is the cuticle. What most people call the cuticle is actually called the Eponychium which often mistaken for the cuticle Shorter version: White dead skin= Cuticle; Eponychium= the mistaken cuticle They look lovely btw ❤❤❤
Obviously someone who knows what they were doing worked on her and her living tissue was not removed. This can be done safely if somebody is specifically trained in Russian manicure. It is the terrible shops and untrained nail techs who cut people up and infect them. And that is a reason Russian manicure got blamed in the United States but it is not the Russian manicure itself. It is the people doing it wrong.
At least look for a place that will do a dry manicure with a structure gel instead of going somewhere with acrylic. I live in Chicago and found something like this on Booksy looking up Russian manicure
Your nails were super dry and damaged, they needed a break, maybe not more chemicals :( Hydrate them and your hands as well, they don’t look healthy enough. However, they look nice.
All they did was cut all your skin off..lol. they will grow back even worse, and it will be a never-ending cycle. My skin around my nails looks just like your hand, and I dont cut my skin off because I take care of it. The cuticle is the white stuff stuck on your nail, not the skin. Anyway..just wanted to say that, but everyone, of course, does what they want.

@ritassoul3516 it's the barrier to stop bacteria, and disgusting stuff from becoming embedded and creating infection. It's not supposed to be cut off for a more fashionable look. It actually plays a large roll in nail health. This girls fingers looked clubbed now. She looks like her finger nails are showing the signs of a thyroid issue. There shud be a slight dip or space from the polished nail to the finger skin and there isnt. That thick polish shudnt be butted right up next to where a cuticle shud be. It even looks bad, never mind the fact that it is bad for over all nail health.

You should never remove your cuticles. It's akin to having 10 open wounds on your hands. It opens you up to severe infection. Like every part of your body, cuticles are there for a reason.
