    This is what a piano sounds like in my memory. I live in the US now and nothing over can match this. My teacher (50 years ago) had two Bechsteins, one a commissioned re-build, and they set a standard in my aural memory that is hard to equal.

      Thank you Francis, we much enjoyed this Bechstein. Interesting to hear there are few Bechsteins in the United States. We actually sold this instrument to someone in the US, and shipped it to him.

      @Egg MCMUFFIN Like any piano, it needs to be done very masterfully and carefully. Some of the new ones are very good too, although need to be carefully set up.

      @@jeancapgras Bechstein never lost its quality, only its reputation with the WW2. Amazing instruments, such a shame what Helene Bechstein did to the brand.

      You should buy one here in the US. They are more than available. Gorgeous piano. In general.

    The pre WW1 Bechsteins are wonderful. I have one built in 1907, imported by Harrods in 1911, During WW1 all the available wood was used in the trenches for reinforcement, and after the war there was a chronic shortage of good quality old straight grained seasoned timber. The sound changed. The depth and resonance qualities are noticeably different.

    I love these pianos. Perfect balance; not too mellow or bright with clarity (without being clipped) but no excessive sustain that muddles the sound. Best compromise between the typical European and American piano sounds. I got to sit down to one at Harrod's in London a few years back. After being a huge Steinway fan, it became my favorite piano that day. I wish I could afford one.

      check out Blüthner pianos.. generally fatter sound than bechstein, imho the warmest /fatest european piano sound.
      anyway this particular bechstein sounds absolutely amazing. I'm gonna get one, but I have to sell my yamaha U1 first and move to a bigger place :p

    • @Samspianopage
      @Samspianopage 7 років тому

      LOL me too, I'd rather have a Bluthner aswell I love their sound. I can't read music y'see I'm partially-sighted.
      Check out my channel if you'd like to see some of my playing I'm no pro though LOL.
      I'm looking at buying a Bechstein too but I'd need to sell my Yamaha G2 Disklavier first.

      Absolutely love, I love those restored vintage Bechstein, the model 3 semi concert grand from the early 1900, for me are or one of the last ones pianos that have a very deep, fat, strong and heavy bass and clear, crispy, cristal and bell sound treble and a mellow, beautiful and rich tenor

    So many Bechstein's are either V's or B's. Get one a wee bit larger and their true virtuous tone becomes more apparent.

    Nice Bechstein model V and interpretation. It's a shame that we don't hear the whole piece. I think it starts around bar 43 and finishes about 113 bars later.

    Wonderful sound: piano and pianist perfect! Might we know model and year of this magnificente C. Bechstein?

    • @sarbachpiano
      @sarbachpiano 6 років тому +1

      I think it is a model V with modernized legs and lyre. Because it has 88 keys it cannot be Mod A (what I first thought), and the fishstail rim and the sides show a construction year before 1905

      Specially today. Back to early XX century, Steinways were outstanding instruments, as well as this Bechstein. They were warm and full of character, matching Bechstein and Blüthner in quality. But Steinway is what it is thanks to heavy marketing amd american influence, as the other mentioned german factories suffered a lot with the two world wars. The Steinway factory made the American sound the standard sound for halls, and American=bigger. As always. But in this case, bigger doesnt mean better. Means more volume, but less tone quality. European makers were the opposite. Pleyel and other french makers tried to preserve their original sound but failed to Steinway's marketing. Blüthner continued to produce straight-strung and overdampered models till 1920-1930 or even further. Bechstein "gave up" earlier but still had a very distinctive tone, which is no longer found in some modern pianos such as the D282 concert that sounds a lot more like a Steinway D as it did 100 years ago.
