Our son Michael was killed two years ago in a suicide car bomb blast in Somalia, He died serving his country. This song was softly played by the Navy band as his casket was placed on the caisson at Arlington National Cemetery. I will never forget it. We love you, Son. Dad.

In 1964, I was at my grandparets home in N.C., when a tornado blew their house away, there were 9 of us in that house. After it had passed and we all got out, my mother said this song was on her mind and in her heart. To this day when I hear it, I think of her and that day in 1964, when 9 people walked out of that wreak of a house with only a few scratches and bruises. We were blessed, God was indeed, near to us.
I remember when my grandma used to pray over us when we were children when tornados were close to where we lived here in Texas but somehow we would sleep so peacefully though the threat was there. God just gives us that peace that no other can give us!
God works miracles. He loves you more that you can imagine he has plans for you. And your family. Never stray from him.

This song was played at sinkage of Titanic . All the musicians who played this to calm the passengers died but did a job that will always remain in history
only in the movie is that true, it's not out of the realm of possibilities that the band played as she sank what was played though is a bit up for interpretation. There was a more popular hymn at the time so it's very likely that was the one that was played.

My son Michael was a musician when he played this on the sax it always made me cry, he passed away at 34 and I had them play this at his funeral, my grief was horrible I didn't want to live without him but when I hear this beautiful song I know he is nearer to God than me!! My Nana passed away today, after 93 years on this Earth. I helped take care of her for many years, as she helped look after me when I was young. Now she is in the Kingdom of Heaven with her husband and lost loved ones. One of the last things she said to me was “see you soon, Matty”. Yes, Nana, I shall see you soon. Be at peace, I love you forever and always.

It can be said that Muslims respect and accept his teaching as much as the Christians. The only difference is we don't see him as "Son of God" as per the original Gospel, which we claimed it was changed by the rulers of the past.

This is one of my favorite verses. Isn't it wonderful that indeed, God goes before us, He is with us, He will not leave us or forsake us? Whenever I read this verse, I recall that night in December 2009 when shortly after falling asleep, I had a cerebral aneurysm rupture and had a subarachnoid hemorrhage. I did not have any previous warning signs, including the classic worst headache in the world. My husband, who was not supposed to be home from work yet... was home from work and not yet asleep. He tells me I became sick and that was what alerted him to the fact that I was in trouble. My son, who has emergency response training was not supposed to be home yet as he had an event going on that night yet... he had just come home. They were going to take me to the nearest hospital when suddenly I ordered them from the back of the ambulance to take me to another hospital. That particular hospital "just happened" to be up the street from what was then known as The National Brain Aneurysm Center and the doctor who "just happened" to be on-call that night was one of the founders of that center and is a leading expert on the treatment of ruptured brain aneurysms. Did I mention that at the time no one had any idea of what had happened to me? I certainly couldn't communicate, or so I have been told and the only time I spoke without being spoken to was when I told them which hospital to take me to. It is interesting to note that shortly before I got out of the hospital, my neurosurgeon walked into the room one day with a large group of people and told them that they were looking at a miracle. Hmm... apparently people who have brain aneurysms after they fall asleep generally never wake up again. It does not matter to me what someone else thinks or says. Like Paul I can say with confidence, "... nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." 2 Timothy 1:12

I know things are gonna get worse and I can only say Stay Safe every time I'm behind the deli counter at Publix seeing people of all ages wearing masks. Some kids without masks that's worrying because people are treating this like it's gonna go away when it's not. My mom's friends was a nurse from a different hospital now has it which means it can happen to anyone. And I would really appreciate it if you wouldn't call me careless or numb when I know how bad it is. Even when people around me say everything is fine when really it's not. I have a sister who has chemo cancer and we have to be careful around her because she's health sensitive. My mother and younger brother have asthma and if they catch this. Well i don't know what to do then.😔

Life without God isn't worth living. I've tried, so hard, to live as an atheist, but haven't found that fulfillment of the soul, that higher contentment that only God can bestow in grace. I've tried all philosophies, all atheistic systems of the intellect, but now I'm back to praying, back to praising. I don't know how long it will last before the stubborn, conceited intellect rebels again, but I've found happiness only in the resurrected Lord.

I believe that true philosophy and true science can have no conflict with god. However to live by faith, "in the sure hope of things *not seen*" (Hebrews 11:11) is to set aside the challenges that I can't overcome with my own intellect and to simply trust and believe God's word. The intellectual in me calls it wilful ignorance, but aren't we told to be fools for Christ? (1Corinthians 4:10) We can't be 'childish' in the propaganda we take notice of but we can, and should, be 'childlike' in what we choose to *believe* (Matthew 18:3)

I personally would rather live a life of self honesty with my eyes uncovered than a life where i buried my eyes in the sand and hid. If there is any god worth worshiping, first he would not ask that we do so, and second, he would hope that we become all that we would become, and that includes not believing in a made up fairy tale.

Science and religion/fath are literally opposing arguments. Science is the absence of faith, it is based on empirical observation and weight of evidence. There is no evidence for any god. Moreover let me ask, why is it that you follow the christian god? if you were born in the middle east it would be allah, if you were born a few thousand years ago and lived in scandanavia it might be thor, or if you were born in greece around that time it might be zeus and apollo.

A very moving hymn. It is believed that prior to the Titanic sank, the band on board played this hymn until it went down to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a very tragic and sad event. May all those who died on board the Titanic rest in peace!

I’m listening to Nearer my God to theee, he is near to us in our times of grief, which I’m in as I lost my youngest son to a massive heart attack, I lost my wife of 31 years on 3/6/2010, daughter on 7/17/2004, mother in law on 9/5/2004, father on 10/20/2002, mother on 6/12/1997. It’s a comfort for those of us who lean on Jesus who is always there when we call on his name.
