    I had V8 110 pick up with a gearbox oil cooler. Here in Botswana. It was an ex CTO vehicle from a government auction. Gearbox never had an issue. I think because if the oil cooler. And it does get hot and dry in the Kalahari. But not the gearbox.

    Really interesting vid. Good point about how 90/110/Defenders have varied so much. I drive a 97 110 CSW and my sons got a 90 300TDi form 94, despite both being 300TDis the detail differences are huge, all the electrical connectors are different, the dash warning lights are very similar to the set up I had on my Turbo D 90 many years ago. I've rebuilt my sons from two knackered ones both registered within two numbers of each other and both had different front axles, one had the earlier style of swivel bearing whilst the other had the later, I have the history of both and no reason to suppose there had been any axle swap! Good old Landrover

      Cheers Mike. 93-94 was a bit of a mish-mash change over (200Tdi/300Tdi, rear disc brakes, etc.) 96/97 had quite a few changes also (EGR, Alarm, connectors). It keeps you on your toes, as it makes buying second hand parts a minefield due to the ambiguity of a "300Tdi part"

    Did the last of the 300tdi (2006 models) use a P38 rear diff like a TD5 from about 2004 on or did they keep using the Salisbury rear diff?

    • @lrworkshop
      @lrworkshop  3 роки тому +1

      Yes P38 diff. It came in part way through the 2002 model year (vehicles built from May 2002)

      @@lrworkshop Yes I found that out, I watched one of your other great videos that answered all my last model spec 300tdi questions. Of course I never had any of these questions before you enlightened me and others about the white unicorn 2006 300tdi Defender!

    Very interesting, I'll consider myself lucky, with a 2004 TD5 and a 1996 300tdi, I get to experience key frustration on a regular basis. Once you add on all the keys I have for various locks/layers of security I'm close to having a separate bag just for each set of keys.

    The Kalahari does have alarm and immobilizer it also had a/c as standard and rear heated windscreen. Thought the wiring is there it didn't come out with: rear speakers, electric windows or central locking. For any info on the Kalahari please feel free to ask. I've owned mine since 2012.

      Thanks Jacques very helpful. I may well have some more questions as I want to do a video about them at some point. Could you email me? address is on footer of my website

    Hi Have you got a GKN overdrive fitted?

  • @gibsonethirty2836
    @gibsonethirty2836 4 роки тому

    G'Day Will
    Its funny you know, because here in Western Australia we HAVE to have an immobiliser/alarm fitted when you buy ANY vehicle. The person who is responsible for having one fitted though is the person who BUYS it, not the seller. If it has none fitted when you buy it, and if you don't install one before you apply for the registration transfer, the DoT can (and do at times) deny your transfer of registration or (their favourite one) increase the cost of the transfer fee AND the registration until you finally fit one and notify them when paying the next registration (every 3months, 6months or 12months). So I'm trying to install the factory set-up into my 130 because all the after market ones here are so problematic. From not working correctly to plain flat out draining your battery. I've ripped the after market one out as soon as I transferred it over to my name, but I still need to install another one so.... factory is the go due to less issues from all marques when you do, even Land Rover (that's how bad the after market types are).
    So my 130 is a 2001 Td5 and as far as I can tell it has the loom already for it all, just need to plug bits in as the fob receiver is already installed from factory and I have a lot of spare connectors at loom ends (door's, tub, ect) Should be sooo much fun!

    Very good video very informative. I would like to know what guages you have in the dash of the right hand drive defender you went to saw a bit of a guage just wondering what it is and if it's landrover or aftermarket?

    • @lrworkshop
      @lrworkshop  4 роки тому

      Hi Mike. The speedo/fuel/temp gauges are LR from a Td5. On the far right it's a TIM turbo gauge.

    My UK 300tdi has one key that does doors and ignition, then just one extra for fuel filler cap - so does my friends’. Are you sure that the three key set up was standard? Perhaps yours has had its doors or ignition barrel replaced so they no longer match?

    • @lrworkshop
      @lrworkshop  4 роки тому

      Hi Will. Fairly certain. All the parts up til 2001 are listed with the small barrels and keys that the ignition key won't fit into www.lrworkshop.com/diagrams/land-rover-defender-body-chassis/doors/barrel-lock-keys_52635#1

    As far as I'm aware it is not possible to have a factory 300tdi with ABS and Traction control as the Traction needs an ECM input for it to function. It may be possible to turn the Traction off in software leaving only the ABS, which incidently doesn't need a data input from an ECM. How do I know this, well, I am building a 300tdi with ABS, TC and HDC... I have a fair few ABS ECU's in my collection... (Gotta know what works and what doesn't and there is only one way to do that... )

    • @lrworkshop
      @lrworkshop  3 роки тому

      That'll be a nice project! There's an article in an old Land Rover Monthly magazine that did a retro-fit on ABS for a 300Tdi

    • @overlandready
      @overlandready 3 роки тому

      @@lrworkshop There are a fair few 90's with ABS as they have done a retrofit the D1 ABS,/axles/etc... which to be fair, is easy. I'm doing a Salisbury axle'd 110.

    My 110 300Tdi 2004 (here in Brazil) : front electric windows, central door locking, NO factory alarm end NO immobilizer, and the AC controls are just in the place of the air vent at the right of gear lever of the car in the video, pushing the two vents to the far right.

    • @lrworkshop
      @lrworkshop  4 роки тому

      Thanks, interesting. I wonder if it was one made in Brazi as CKD?

    • @Sandro2746
      @Sandro2746 4 роки тому

      @@lrworkshop Yes. It was produced here in Brazil (CKD) from 1998 to 2005, only 300Tdi (but all the interior and wiring looms from Td5, even the diagnostic connector just next the drivers seat). The 300 Tdi engine was produced here in Brazil by Maxxion-International, the same engine of Mercedez Benz Sprinter, Ford Ranger, Chevrolet S10 from the same year.
      The Td5 was imported only 1 year (2006), and from 2007 to 2011 was Puma. The newest Defenders here are the 2011.
