  • In this video I build the Academy B-1B Lancer in 1/144 scale.
    This project blended a complex paint scheme with an unexpectedly tricky build, some areas were straightforward, others.. not so much.

    Awesome build, even though you had some issues! I both love and hate pre shading, I love the finished effect but hate there is no CTRL+Z option when you go too far! Great result and one of the few modern planes I’ve seen you make…inspires me to have a crack at my ‘72nd Tamiya SU-34!

    Cracking build James (as mentioned on FB) especially now watching it on my tele. Always impressed with your close up filming and your explanation of what you’re doing. I forgot to mention when I did mine and with it in flight I bought some AM 1/144 pilots which aren’t really visible but I know they are there. Keep up the great videos 👏🏻😁👍🏻

      Thanks John ! I always try and get in close if I can, it's not good on the build end ( makes things a tad more awkward) but it's good for the viewer !
      Pilots never even crossed my mind ( always forget lol )

    That paint job really lifts the model into another dimension. I am a great fan of pre-shading but it does take a lot of time and needs a good airbrush, this said I have not used different pre-shading colours, but I shall now.

    Lovely build as always mate, every time I watch a video like this I tell myself I need to finish the Cunturion AVRE thats been sat on the shelf painted and ready for weathering for the past 2 years at least. Trouble is I didnpossibly the best paint job I have ever managed and now I'm too much of a wuss to go any further 😅

    Thanks James, Now I have to get the B-one kit,🤣 In all honesty it's one which I do need to add to the stash.Your paint job really hits the mark and the tinting of the canopy really sets it off. My only gripe is no crew, I found that a couple of sprue gates cut, sanded and a quick paint make an excellent stand in for the pilots (I did that for Academy B52) for large aircraft 1/144 is great particularly newer releases. I hope you do the Academy B 52 at some stage, be warned even in this scale the wings length is huge.

    • @lpjmodels
      @lpjmodels  3 місяці тому

      Thanks mate! Yeah crews are always an issue, ( my issue is I always forget) b52 is huuge, I always fancied a tupolev Bear too, but lots to do in between now and then.
      Crew wise it might be possible to find some files to print and scale to 144th

    I'm glad to finally see someone using the harlequin technique, it's pretty unpopular for some reason, but it leads to magnificent results, and I find it more user-friendly than using oils for color modulation. It works well on some ground subjects as well, like on track links, ERA tiles, flat surfaces with lots of plates etc. Do you think it would be a bad idea to use primary and secondary colors from the color wheel instead of color shades similar to the base color?

    I have to say, aircraft of any era are not my cup of tea, even if that is how I started a million years ago. Unfortunately, in my current man-cave I don't have much in the way of display space and aircraft take up so much room. Nevertheless, this was a very entertaining and excellent build, as always. Keep up the great work my friend.

    • @madmemesbro

      That's because you only ever buy the cheap, old, sh*te kits. This was a brand new tooling in 2020. Who'd think that buying old crap kits would lead to an unfairly judged, bad opinion of a manufacturers kits?

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes 3 місяці тому

      @@madmemesbro who'd think that a company releasing cheap, old toolings in brand new boxes without indicating a tooling age on the box would lead to the manufacturer getting a bad review?

    • @madmemesbro
      @madmemesbro 3 місяці тому

      @@ModelMinutes Yes, partially true, but in this day and age with kit history being instantly accessible via Scalemates and reviews being everywhere, there is almost NO excuse for blindly buying a kit and then moaning about the age or quality.

    • @lpjmodels
      @lpjmodels  3 місяці тому +1

      Thanks man ! I'm always checking up whether a kit is any good way before buying it. Got burnt to much with Airfix reboxes😆

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes 3 місяці тому

      @@madmemesbro I disagree. If a model kit company is not transparent with the tooling date on their kits then they are intentionally being misleading.
      Putting the responsiblity on the consumer to have to research the age of a model kit from a third party website and then blaming those who do not for buying the kit is just encouraging the model kit companies to continue this practice.
      If a company wants my custom, they are going to have to be more clear with their customer base and I will call them out on it every time I see it
