    You don’t really make ‘models’ anymore, I see these more as beautiful pieces of 3 dimensional art. You spend just as much time working the colours as an artist works on a painting. That’s one of the most insane camo schemes I’ve seen on a plane and you did it freehand with an airbrush! Learnt a lot with this vid, especially the rendering with oils and washes. I saw the Model Minutes one and thought that was fantastic (he really does have a way of banging out a superb model), and decided I need to have this model in my collection. Great vid and look forward to the next one!

      Andy that's really kind thankyou.
      I do try and improve with every build if I can. Even if it's little things like experimenting with the sponge stipple, it's easy to be caught in a rut with techniques, so I do try and integrate new things now and again ( when confident) and hope it adds a little more fidelity.
      Yes Model Minutes does some great stuff ! He's also really good at tackling kits I wouldn't touch with a bargepole !
      Take care 🙂

      @@lpjmodels you have become my ‘go to’ for modelling vids and advice. I also watch Plasmo for the shear insanity of his builds! I just watched the latest Model Minutes and you featured on it (the new resin printer he got and the slicer issue he had…and the bloopers!). Yes he does tackle kits that should be left alone in the shop…..mind you he inspired me to get some of the PM models kits to ‘have a crack at!’

    Bravo! The paint scheme is fantastic. James your patient and detailed explanation is wonderful and probably the best explanation of painting a 1/72 airplane I have seen. I was curious if you always apply decals without applying a gloss coat first? Are you not afraid of silvering? Again, fantastic build and thank you for being so meticulous in your filming the explanation of your techniques (filming and editing these probably is just as difficult as a build, no?). I will definitely be watching for your next video!

    • @lpjmodels
      @lpjmodels  24 дні тому

      Hi Charles thankyou that's very kind, I do try and be comprehensive but sometimes things do get simplified because of time.
      The biggest challenges when filming for me are 1. Keeping parts in focus. If the model is bigger this is fine, but small parts are usually filmed with macro tubes, which really reduces the depth of field range of the camera so, for something like the gunsight, I have about 1cm of workable wiggle room, it's why often smaller bits are stuck to paint lids, keeps them at a fixed distance ! And 2. I like to be close to the parts I'm working on so I can see well what's going on . Especially with figures and fine details, to stay out of shot I need more distance between eyes and model than I would like. The editing can take about 2 days, sometimes 3, over several few hour sessions. It used to be the voice over was the worst or hardest part for me but now I can talk with a lot more fluency and less retakes ! ( self confidence I think hinders me there) I used to edit on my phone, and that was OK, but when I got a pc ( first for about 10 years although I am pretty proficient with them ) my workload suffered greatly as I had never used a "proper" editing suite, and I had a lot to learn . ( my first video edited on PC was my Kettenkrad) my workflow has become a lot more streamlines since and it takes a lot less time than it did !
      Thats a little insight to the production, maybe there's a video in that.
      About decals, I don't gloss at all anymore, there was a point where I had so much trouble getting a smooth gloss coat down and several reactive failures that made me try a technique I saw that just relied on smooth paint and good decal adhesive solutions. I will happily decal on bare paint, satin or matt varnish now, the only downside is the decals don't move as well, but floating them in more solution helps .
      I don't think I'd recommend decaling onto bare paint with paints like vallejo, I don't think they have the strength in the paint film to deal with softening solutions to cope, but over lacquers it's pretty safe. And I only use light tactical applications of softeners anyway !
      I did a recent video called " Decals done different - decalling without a gloss varnish " that outlines my process if that's of interest.
      Sorry for the wall of text! I hope that gives a little insight, and thanks again for the kind words.
      James
