+Mike Manse - Hello Mike, thanks for your comment. My dad worked all his life at GEC Witton. He worked in Switchgear Contract. He was made redundant in 1970 along with 2,000 others. I watched the factory being pulled down from the train window which passed nearby on my way to work. A very sad sight.
+toodle pip Thanks for your reply. I left about 6 months after GEC took the company over. We were based in another building entirely from GEC employees. When they were SGE they rented buildings on the GEC site so we never moved after the takeover. Must have been sad to see the place being torn down. Mike.
Thats great, We used to pick up the black Morris J2 vans from behind the building and I was always getting told off because if I didnt reach the depot by 10pm in the evening I would take the van home. They were happy Days.
Do you know what years SGE were manufacturing traffic signals and do you know when the decorative flambo or torch finials were added for the more touristy areas of mainly London please? Thanks.
Thanks for the enquiry. Not sure I can help you but SGE were part of the GEC group (not to be confused with GE of the USA). Looking at uk street scenes filmed before WW2 they were definitely in use then. It might be worth a search for a GEC forum online. Good luck.
I do vaguely remember seeing these flame effect finals on old prewar movies but when they ceased using them I've no idea. An ex-employee GEC group might be able to help though they will be all in their 90s by now. Sorry I can't help you further.
I worked for both SGE and GEC when they took them over out of the Wembly Depot.
Happy Days. Mike.

@@wattsupmike7593 Thanks for coming back. So are you saying the FLAMBO finials were in use before WW11?

Are the bulbs 'period' colours or just what is available today?
The bulbs in the traffic lights are the original. The panel lights are modern.
May I know where can I get them?
