The original Trunks release was actually my very first SHF Dragon Ball figure, so this new updated version is pretty sentimental. Tamashii NAILED the overall aesthetic of this Trunks, looks like he was pulled straight out of DBZ! Truly excited to receive this for myself! Not surprised they delivered, looked great from the images with the only intial concern of the thigh cuts not hindering articulation (curved cut of 2.0. Still looks better imo but this isnt bad). Otherwise, aesthetically great DBZ proportions outside of size (the one big issue I had with the DBS release), great articulation outiside of sclupted butt, amazing faces and pretty great assortment of accessories for modern SH figuarts releases. Probably 2nd or 3rd best figuarts release this year so far behind Turles and mybe 2nd Form Frieza. The QC issues is concerning since that was a big issue with the 1st Form Frieza figure.
Yes!! I can not wait for mine. It’s being fedex’d to me in Canada right now. I pre-ordered Vegeta as well but this overshadows that release so much. Especially the fact I have the 2016 release, the new DF SSJ Vegeta but need as many Vegeta bodies as I can get for all my Tonsenarttoys heads and my Majin/SSJ2 head from China. But Trunks is why we are all here. Man what a great looking figure. Can not wait to pose him with my Yardrat Goku.
Since this was suppose to be his first appearance, the base form faces should've had the cocky smirk and a yelling face, if I had to pick only one extra, then cocky smile would've been it. So close to perfection! Another one would be a relaxed smiling face too! As far as accessory count you just can't bear the og first release, but overall this figure is phenomenal and can't wait for mine! Too had the jacket isn't the whole thing, customizing will be a little more involved. Plus side is the heads fit in the armor body and combined with the alternate bangs we can have a proper trunks vs cell look.
The time travelling boy from the future!, He is an amazing piece sucks about qc and his hips still a tad bothersome but not as bad as the promotional pictures but I can't deny despite my nitpicks it's a gorgeous release and the face captures that sharp Z artstyle though buff compared to his 1st appearance for some but it can be an artist interpretation and DBZ wasn't really consistent with artstyle. I always feel like all trunks figures are too short for my liking but that's just me but with this new one it fixes my issues, interesting story I originally planned on making a trunks custom with the time patroller body but never got around to do it, glad I waited this long for this amazing figure, looking forward to the vegeta review next!!!!!! and this makes ms want to also get the new version of the saiyan armor trunks coming up.
Trunks getting a well deserved 3.0 update. It's a shame that Vegeta that is released at the same time is just a slight colour update of the previous 2.0.
Just got mines today and he’s 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. I missed out on the original so this one is perfect for me I couldn’t be happier, mines doesn’t have any QC issues at all. Amazing review as always keep it up man

I'm sure I'll like it once I have it in hand, but I'm not really feeling this. First, I'll give the pros: The sculpt work on the legs, the hair, the faces, the boots--all look great. It also seems very easy to pose in any way you can think of. The alternate hair piece is a really nice touch. The colors and what little paint is there look very accurate. Now for the bad: the lack of smiling faces or any other alternate base-form faces at all is such an L compared to the original Trunks. The ugly jacket setup in the back might be fine from the front, but it objectively looks bad. The gap between the neck and chest and the chest not being painted the same color as the moulded neck plastic is distracting. The ugly hips setup adds range of articulation, but they look bad in a neutral pose. The big open gap between the collar and jacket... :( I feel like this figure really prioritized articulation over aesthetics where a middle ground would have been my preference.
totally agree, you just summarized what is basically 3.0. What bothers me is that it's obvious when they implemented these new articulations they weren't trying to improve the figure, but much more to change it in any way possible so the marketing could claim it's brand new. It makes me sad to see so much people falling for it and wanting any figure in 3.0, without even questionning it. Hopefully they will improve it, as they already did for the upper body with beast gohan and orange piccolo. If they keep overdesigning and making new generations every five year, it will for sure kill the line.
the worst negative of all is that apparantly this figure is extremely loose and feeling really bad for a lot of people. it's one you will want to pray to the QC gods for.
@Victor Dompietrini all of these things are improvements though. These are articulated action figures getting more articulation is literally a good thing. If you dont want articulation buy the dragon stars version
That’s the worst argument ever, and so dishonest. An articulated figure is not just a bunch of articulation. It represent designs and characters, and in the case of this line, has always claimed to picture them as faithfully as possible. It’s all about finding a compromise between good articulation and good look. To me, 3.0 leg articulations look awfull and break the design, which is really important to me. Also 3.0 leg articulation are less articulated than 2.0 legs, but if you want to convince yourself otherwise, fair enough. Just take a 2.0 goku and this trunks and compare the leg movement. Also funny how 90% of people thinking like you don’t even know how to pose a figure. If you just want articulation, buy the figure rise version.
I'm glad this turned out well. A little weird with the height, I wonder if they made him taller because they plan to reuse the body for an older trunks with no jacket. He looks around the same height as the old cell saga trunks, do you think they are similar??
I still think that my favorite figure is the Super Warrior Awakening Goku from 2015. it was my first figure I got and still by far my favorite of the figures I have. maybe the new super sayian goku will change my mind.

Your videos help me learn more about the figures and the different models. Now I have like 10 figures including this trunks, I really like the figure, mine also has the arm issue.

I really wanted this figure. But I picked up Gohan instead. The minor QC issues trouble me and I feel like I'll prefer the torso not being rubber. If they release a trunks without a jacket, then I'm down for that. Excited for a new base vegeta 3.0 and Goku 3.0.
The torso isnt rubber if thats what youre worried about how it’ll hold up over time. I felt like mentioning that cause i always avoid figures with rubber too. The jacket is more a soft plastic. Some reviewers just interchange the two “soft plastic” and “rubber”

I don't know if you all noticed, but his torso is on wrong, it's backwards. The v-shape is on the back instead of front facing. The QC coming from Tamashii's Vietnam factory has been horrible to say the least

Just received my copy and man did they absolutely nail the aesthetics of this guy. He may be a tad on the tall side but I don't care one bit, this is the perfect Trunks figure imo and I prefer this look over his Bojack one, but that's personal pref ofc. Mine seems to have been spared of the loose left arm issue, but my legs are very floppy which is the only 'complaint' I have about this figure really.
Thanks for the video. I value scale with my figures but it seems that Bandai is leaning towards making their newer figures lean towards the Western market of a bigger 1/12 scale. My hope is that they at least scale well with their other anime lines. Guts from Berserk should be towering over Shippuden Naruto.

Seems like a near perfect figure to me, if there is a mecha frieza or maybe theyd come with more trunks face plates? Very surprised the sword goes in the sheath entirely. I know its not a great movie but now i really want super android 13 cause i just like his design alot. Im also surprised you got trunks before 2nd form frieza? My frieza should be showing up in the mail today but trunks isnt scheduled to be here till june.
He gets all his stuff from Japan, as do I and I received Frieza last thursday and Trunks just today. He already got his 2nd Form Frieza and review done too.
The best part about this one IMO is the fact that the sword can finally be fully sheathed, unlike past relases where there were two separate pieces

I'd say the original one is better in terms of scaling, but the new version is a masterpiece in itself

Lovely review as always! I know the figures just came out, but I've been eagerly awaiting your take on Trunks and Vegeta because you're the most positive, in-depth DBZ reviewer or there! You mentioned a fix for the loose arm, what did you do to tighten it?
Seems like a near perfect figure to me, if there is a mecha frieza or maybe theyd come with more trunks face plates? Very surprised the sword goes in the sheath entirely. I know its not a great movie but now i really want super android 13 cause i just like his design alot.
Im also surprised you got trunks before 2nd form frieza? My frieza should be showing up in the mail today but trunks isnt scheduled to be here till june.
He gets all his stuff from Japan, as do I and I received Frieza last thursday and Trunks just today. He already got his 2nd Form Frieza and review done too.
