I'm a carpenter and last thing I want to nit pick your work. You did your best to give your family something they can enjoy and my hats of to you sir!
I just setup the exact same pool and this is what im thinking of building. A small like 8x8 deck just to be able to have room to have people to be on and get a tan or grill.
This is perfect. Nice job. We take our pool down in the fall, so a deck like this could be moved to the side of the house or somewhere when not in use. I like this idea.
This is easily my favorite video that I have seen for my particular application. I am going to copy this almost exactly. However. I'd like to know a couple of things. I paused the video a few times to see if I could figure these out on my own, but I thought I'd ask anyway. What size joists are those? How many joists underneath? How far apart on center are the joists? How many floor planks are there? what length of Lag screw did you use? how many boards if any run perpendicular to the joists underneath? Has it sunk any since you built it? Great video. Thanks!
Thank you for the great comment! I am actually camping right now so I don’t have all that information. I’ll get it when I get home. The joists are 2x6. I believe I used 4” lag screws. The rest I’ll answer tomorrow!
Nice Job! I'd love to know what materials you purchased. I see 4 x 4, 2 x 6, and the composite decking. Do you happen to remember about the amount of each and the type of bolts you used? I wish you had a step by step video for this because this is exactly what we need.
Melissa Sorrells unfortunately I don't have specifics. Since I wasn't working from a "plan", a lot of it was purchased as I went. I didn't track what I used. Sorry I can't be of more help. It's pretty basic in design and fairly intuitive.
You can put a little cheap plastic kiddie pool at the bottom of your deck so that everyone can wash their feet off before getting in the pool. I saw where someone else did that and I thought it was a great idea. We are going to have to do that for ours since our deck cannot come straight off of our house and we will have to walk through the yard to get to it.
Ray Mari thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I don’t have a materials list since I was basically winging this. Lol. If you look on my other videos, there is a more detailed look at the deck that could be helpful.
Great vid. Only thing I do know about noodles is they desenagrate and you will get micro pieces of that crap all In Your pool. Being this is 3 years ago I'm sure you found that out. We ban them things in pools now.... Would like more detail on how you bolted the board to the 4x4. Was it just screw in lag bolts or was a knock in bolt with a washer and nut on the back side?
Did you find the composite decking got too hot for bare feet? I saw in another of your videos you added a big umbrella to the deck. I am currently building the frame and was going to do wood for the top due to the heat of the composite material. My sister has a composite deck and there are days she has to carry her dog across it or it will burn the dogs feet.
It is a great deck, I was looking for this type of deck as I will move to the back of the yard when the summer is over and we close the pool. Thanks. If you can provide a list of materials that will be very helpful.

We can follow directions. Would you be willing to share a sketch of the deck (if you have one), and the type and measurements of the boards after they were cut? Hey Paul, is that deck being on those cement blocks considered code here in MA? I ask only cause as a first time home owner here in MA, in order to have any structure be covered under your insurance it has to be built to code with a permit being pulled and then it gets inspected and the inspector gives you a form to give your insurance company. Is that really be necessary? Or is doing it like you did ok too?

I guess you’d have to check with your town to see what they require. Or… go rogue like me, and take your chances.
Hey there! I actually had to replace the frame after 3 years (check out my other videos). The liner is fine but the frame rusted out. Still in use now but I’m betting only another year or so.
Can I ask what kind of mulch it is that you are using around your pool? We used regular mulch last year and with the splash over from the pool water it was washed away in minutes.
I am having a set of wooden steps built for the outside of my new pool and getting a nice set of steps from Amazon for the inside of the pool. We will secure the steps in the pool to the top step on the outside of the pool. I am also using the A-frame ladder that comes with the pool to secure a slide to for the pool. We hope to be able to build a deck next year. I have trouble getting up and down the ladder that usually comes with the pools. Looks great. Probably will do something like this myself... Btw you may want to take a look at troublefreepool.com for chemistry control. It could save you some headache's down the road (based off of the small amount of chemistry you mentioned in the video).
aww man you should have buried your posts, those blocks are no good and for something that small you didn't need bolts for your posts either. $450 is pricey for something so small especially when I built a 16×16 on my 22×52 pool for $1,000
I liked mine. My first attempt at anything like that. Worked great! Thanks.
the ladder wouldn't pass inspection. So if your bylaw doesnt care you're lucky
Mai Le guess I'm lucky.
OMG $450 for that small deck?
Bayou State Trucker Rob price it out. Using pressure treated lumber and trex decking. Get back to me.
It's nice. Not trying to start anything. I just built a 12x14 deck, all pressure treated from the ground up for $950. Would like to show a pic, but I don't know how to on here.
A quarter of the way around a 20'x48" intex pool.
Bayou State Trucker Rob sounds like a sweet deck! For some reason they don’t let you out pics on these comments. A 6x6 deck is just under half the size of yours and my cost was just less than half of yours! So I guess that’s about right. 👍🏼
This time I will do it manually with the help of Woodglut designs.
Just beware about this pool company.
Stanley Keith who?
