You should force yourself to watch zombie movies and apocalyptic movies. Studies show that these horror movies actually build resilience in viewers. They tend to be less anxious and better able to cope in real life disasters. From personal experience, I think its true.
The reason you’re one of my favorite reactors is because you really pay attention & just generally get what the stories are trying to convey. I’ve watched a lot of reactions to this first episode & so many reactors miss things that you picked up immediately (things like the dead child in the truck being the same one from earlier & Joel still wearing his broken watch). It makes it a lot more enjoyable when some understands the way writers & directors tell stories.

She's really good. Very empathetic along with a keen intelligence and emotionally expresive. She doesn't fall into the annoying "litany of questions" reactor crutch either. One of my favorites.
The fact that so many reactors didn't pick up on the kid in the truck is insane, it was so on the nose

This is a show that's called a 'zombie show'... but it really a show about love... specifically parental love.
Good observation on Ellie and her reaction to Joel beating that other guy up. She has some trauma herself that hasn’t been addressed or dealt with yet.
Very good point that others don't even comment about. Sofie is always astute and empathic, picking such thing up.
This show is so good it's worth enduring the "zombie, apocalypse" stuff !! Oh, and my opinion is: I think Ellie misinterpreted Joel's actions, but (in her mind) has never seen a stranger protect her like that (plus, "oh, that's what he's capable of")
Yeah, I pretty much took it as Ellie knowing she’s in good hands for this leg of the journey..
Name another show that made you feel for a character after only 15 minutes into the pilot episode. The young lady who played Sara did an amazing job. Wow. 😢

I'm a beekeeper but I remember being terrified learning about the Cordyceps fungus when I was getting my degree in entomology.
The concept is just existentially horrific. We have done a lot to our planet, but there are many things that we still can't control or stop, even with our advanced tech - we can't stop rats from breeding and spreading, the common cold from evolving, blights on certain crops. It's worryingly possible that a fungus like this could spread faster than we could develop a process to kill it off.
Ellie is immune because she's already a fun gal. 😁
You are in for a ROUGH but REWARDING ride, it's so harsh and real what they do and the writers are amazing. It's 100% the most realistic what if apocalypse and how people survive...usually on the bones of other survivors....Enjoy!! 🙂
Never was a Pedro fan but as someone that’s played the games he did an amazing job the guy is Joel.
Sign of a true actor he becomes every character he plays.

the intro to this show is imho one of the greatest scenes of TV ever. it so clearly sets the mood and foreshadows the story while also grounding it in a believable way.
Good thing it isn't a zombie show.They are alive and infected not dead and brought back to life.

You need to continue with this. It's possibly the best TV drama I've ever seen.
one of the best series adapted from a video game ever infact for me probably one of the best series in the last 20 years, The acting by bella Ramsey and pedro pascal is world class.. truly amazing you will not be dissapointed. a good 70% is exactly like the video game.

Wow! I’ve watched so many people react to so many different shows but you’re reaction was just so good! You actually paid attention to the clues and actually followed with the characters. Love this! 🩷
The writing and acting is brilliant in this show. As with Sarah, you will often begin to really care about, and be invested in, characters that you might only have seen for 10 or 20 minutes. It's a disturbing show, but a great one. Loving your reaction to it so far.
Oh, boy! This show might be rough for you at times but it'll definitely be worth the journey. Having watched a lot of your videos, it's obvious that you're insightful enough that you will have a lot to chew on and think about. Between this AND Firefly, it's gonna be a great ride.

I hadn't planned to watch this, either. I don't play video games. Zombies are my least-favorite monsters. But I fell in love with Bella Ramsey on Game Of Thrones, and when another of my subscribed reactors started to watch on her patreon, I decided to watch along. I didn't regret it. This is a great story, so well told.
Dear Sofie, you seem like a nice person so I'm glad you started OUAT as well as this. This is a fantastic story with superb acting, but it is going to be a rough ride at times. This isn't said to put you off, I think it is well worth experiencing, but it's good that you have a contrasting show to lift your mood too.
You'll grow to love this show. I'm like you. I hate zombie/apocalypse anything, and I don't play video games at all. The only thing I knew about this was that it was a zombie thing and that there's a man and a girl (image from the game box/poster/ad) traveling across the country. I assumed they were father/daughter going into this. I also wanted to watch it to see Pedro and Bella, since I'm a huge GoT fan. I ended up loving the show. I hope you will, too.

Hi Sofie Im new to your channel this is the first video I am watching of you and I LOVED it! your reaction to it! I love it when people get emotionally involved in amazing shows like this! This was my NUMBER ONE! show when it came out and I couldn't wait for the next episode I played the game several times and loved watching other people play it to see their reactions The game is one of if not the BEST! story-based game I have ever played it was so good that they made this show! And they nailed it! I have seen other shows and movies based on awesome games and it's always the same garbage! But this was so respectful to the story and characters that it truly was an amazing rendition I'm glad youre enjoying it and you're lucky you can just binge-watch the whole thing I had to wait a whooole! week for the next episode! but you're going to LOVE IT! I guarantee.

It's not a horrorshow. It's a drama with horrorelements.
There are no zombies here either. As you learned at the beginning, the fungus needs a living body to live and spread. In the early stages, even the victims still know exactly what they are doing, they just can't defend themselves when they kill someone. In the game, they even cried when the fungus rested in them.
I am right there with you regarding zombie apocalypse type genres. I get super anxious at the idea lol

On YT, there are walkthrough's of the video game's cutscenes. They are edited down to about 6 and a half to 7 hours or so if you want to compare the changes from the game to the TV show.

I often never show tears but during this show I just sit and cry without blinking as my girlfriend keep on asking if I'm ok...
Never played the game but know all the story.. the good and the bad. :') :'( ..will never go golfing again.
Also, I'm not even a father or have been in the military.. but I can fully understand Joel and his PTSD. It just gets "better"...

It is a good series and very emotional. One of the best episodes of TV (in my opinion) comes from this show. It is definitely comparable to GoT (pre season 7) in terms of quality.
It's a good thing Joel and Tess knew exactly what Marlene meant by "the old State House" - they could just as easily have thought she meant "the _Old_ State House" and delivered Ellie to a completely different building!
As much as I like to make fun of the show's liberties with Boston geography, though, I do appreciate that they located the Quarantine Zone in the North End like that. It makes a lot of strategic sense, as FEDRA would only have to wall off one side, and the rest would be surrounded by water.

I've never been to Boston myself, but I remembered seeing a map of the city showing the place where they waited to see the lights in order to make the famous "The British are coming" speech, so when I saw the QZ was in Boston I immediately figured they would put it on that part of the city to be more defensible. That's probably why this QZ is doing okay where others have fallen to the infected.
I don't know if it has been sais but the reason they got infected it's because of the Flour and Bread. Mushrooms and cordyceps in a bad batch of flour. Remember the cookies in the beginning ? No flour for the pancakes saved theirs lives.

Hi Sofie- stick with this great series. The show is not a typical straightforward "zombie" movie. (By the way, people infected by the cordyceps fungus are NOT zombies which are dead creatures, they are called "infected" since the person is alive an being controlled by the fungus (in nature, they actually control insects that the infect)

I would say don't play the games, not because they aren't good, but because you can get an excellent 'feel' of the games from watching this, minus all the faffy bits like inventory management. I only have an Xbox so I can't play the games, but I don't feel like I've missed out at all having talked to friends who have played them. This is a show that really understood how to translate one medium to another.
Appritiate the tears, the laughs, the reactions.
For me zombie series or following a serial killing hunting criminals is intresting if done well not only due to unique setting, but it highlights huan morale questions great.
What would you do. What is good, what is bad, what is grey.
The Last of Us, The Walking Dead, Dexter these are 10/10 shows, where many times you forget the setting, they are very well written shows. Just like Buffy series with blood sucking vampires.
I’m like you. I was skeptical about watching this show be I don’t like zombies either… but this is a GREAT SHOW. As great a Game of Thrones and certainly better than House of the Dragon
