Irish Flake is the perfect autumn to winter smoke. I love it in October, on the cold dark nights. I sit outside listen to with the leaves rustling, and smoke a bowl, the nicotine warms me up too

I've not had this one yet. I tend to go for medium nic hits but I have been known to hit a bowl of glorious 1792 flake with a good dose of espresso. Maybe I should check this one out. Also I completely get the idea of how you do these "revisited" episodes. Makes perfect sense to me.
I may have to try a tin, it sounds like all the flavors I enjoy!!

Glad you revisted Peterson Irish Flake. To me this is Peterson's best tobacco (not counting the Dunhill foster children). I'm glad you seemed to think they had not messed with the recipe. That anise does go into the background, perhaps numbing the mouth a tad like mentholatum. Yummy so good perhaps too good.

I love cigars, and lat bomb pipe toby, but with dark fired pipe toby I usually cut it with something else. Also I love Stumptown coffee! Cheers from Tampa.

It used to be made by Kohlhase & Kopp between 2006 and 2015 (I think). That's when they introduced their own versions of Irish Flake and University Flake.
Will definitely be getting some Irish flake soon.
I would love to see a review of C&D Americana. I haven't found any good reviews on it yet. I'm really curious what you would think of it.

When I was young in the late 70's I used to buy much tobacco in the Peterson Shop in Grafton Street Dublin.
Just getting into Solani Aged Burley and I'm really enjoying it too. It's really meaty and I'll definitely pick up some Irish Flake after watching your review. Thanks!

I really do like this blend, but I prefer Rattrays´s Stirling flake. It should be the same mixture, but the Stirling flake seems to be more spicy.

I wish Burley blends didn't kick my butt, because I enjoy the flavor profile as well. I might try adding an anise pod to one of my home blends for fun
Have you tried Solani's Aged Burley Flake? It's really smooth and not strong at all.

Hi Bradley. On your recommendation I tried the Elizabethan Mixture that you enjoy. I bought a tin ... smoked 2 bowls ... hated it ... smoked the rest ... love it. Now have to source some more. Thanks for the heads up.

Peterson Irish Flake is the only blend other than Haunted Bookshop that I’ve had to dump out. I couldn’t finish it.
I can't stand the stuff either, i think it's the aniseed flavouring now blake is saying it, even though i love aniseed candy.
I tried offering it up for trade on a Facebook group and didn't get a hint of interest.
I'll let it sit a while longer and come back to it but im not expecting much from it.
Daniel Starbuck give it a year in a mason jar, it still gives a big nic hit if you puff too fast but it does develop a creamy smooth taste.
Got any recommendations for a raisin and molasses flavor pipe tobacco non-Aromatic?

I hate liquorice. Thank goodness the tin smell does not carry through into the smoke/taste. Burly Virginia and Kentucky ... Va-bur-ucky? Vir-tucky? ;) I wanted to like this tobacco more but I am to a huge fan of dark fired kentucky.

Retrohailing is blowing the smoke out through your nose. You will taste different flavors. You retrohail naturally when you eat. Don’t believe me? That’s why you can’t taste food when you have a cold. Another way to think of it is to try “chewing” the smoke.

How does it smell !? Does it smell like cigarettes? Or can you smoke it in a room and it won’t change the smell.
I am smoking it now as I scribe.I have a very high nic tolerance so Irish Flake is just the ticket.For me being an old stager I prefer St Bruno and Condor.Condor is stronger than Irish Flake to me but in a different way.God knows but Sterling Flake was and is up there.All good stuff though.Jim.Liverpool.Ps.All better with Scotch.Sod the coffee or tea.

I mostly smoke English blends and have ventured out to Va/Pers.
Up to you! Some people keep dedicated pipes for certain blends. I don’t worry too much. I just wouldn’t smoke any aromatics in pipes you use for non-flavored blends.

The only "experience" needed here is to rub out the flake as much as possible into small pieces. Then it'll be easier to smoke.

One blend I'd recommend reviewing is Maltese Falcon.
I don't see much chatter about it which puzzles me given the whole flavor profile and mystique. The other one to not talk about is Seattle Pipe Club's Plum Pudding Reserve...
I think Irish flake is quite bland. It is a little smoky and indeed very strong, but that's that. Put mine away for a couple of months and even after that didn't like it any better
It's ok. I find it's hard to keep lit. I prefer Sherlock Holmes because it stays lit easier
Did you try drying it first/longer? Different prep methods? Rubbing out, fold and stuff, cube cut and gravity fill, etc?
