Brianna, they want you to become numb, never let that happen to you. Keep crying on air, it's what makes us genuine, it's what makes us human, it's what keeps kids from thinking that all hope is lost in humanity. We, must continue showing that there are more of us than there are of them. Kids need to know we care!
The mother is incredibly strong. I met Brianna Keeler once at an exercise class in Washington, DC. She was warm and kind. This video reveals her humanity.
I don't think school shooting has ever happened in the Philippines before! Mass shooting is really something unique to the US and it's really heartbreaking to see! I don't know how you guys can let this happen to your kids over and over again. It's totally crazy!!😔
The last school shooting in the UK was in Dunblane in 1996. A certain Andy Murray was one of the schoolkids that survived. The public reaction was total horror, and gun ownership was restricted even more. It was already nearly impossible to own a gun in the UK. Not quite impossible but very nearly, thank goodness!
Sportsbeast740- gaming- it happens over and over again. A bad dream from which we can never awaken. The answers are there, we need the will to be strong and resilient against this illness. It is an illness in this country. As a society we are soft and fat and full of sugar. We can't think straight enough to act in our own self interest
Yep! So USA had THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY since Sandy Hook? Well Australia for example hasn't had THREE in the nation's entire history. Funny that isn't it. We notably do not have the death penalty or easy access to guns, both things which change the perceived societal value of human life and turn human bodies into expendable rage targets instead of living , breathing autonomous people with their own hopes and desires that have intrinsic value. 1. Drop the death penalty 2. Slowly phase down access to guns in tandem with authorities cracking down on *illegal* gun posession so that criminal groups can essentially be locked up for half their lives if they are found stockpiling firearms. Then the somewhat legit claims of good people needing weapons in the home will be far less legit and people will have more confidence that people need to be very specially trained and have extremely sound mental health to own an appropriately low powered weapon with a very small amount of ammunition
Miss Keilar, it feels right to see that for you, reporting on such a tragedy, is not just "a job". It's good to see real human beings with real feelings on the screen from time to time.

When Brianna said, "she hates covering stories like this," it broke my heart, and when her coworker said, "one thing I can promise you, you going to have to do it again." It's sad that we have to be expecting another school shooting like this because some of these parents refuse to get the help their kid needs. There are so many children who are overlooked at home and in school with mental health disorders, these problems are distressing to children and disrupt their ability to function well at home, and in school, or in other social situations. Parents need to pay attention to their kid's behavior, mood swings, and for the love of the universe, talk to your kids, if there's anything bothering them you have a chance to address the situation before it gets out of hand. You are the parent(s) and your responsibility is to take care of your kids. It's good that the parents are being held accountable for their actions as well as that child. Praying for all the families who lose a loved one in these school shootings.
Thankfully I dont have kids. And my mom has raised me well. Yes I watched my first horror film when I was 8 but hey they are fun not like Michael Myers is someone to become
If a minor person shoots and kills someone with a gun that belongs to their parents. And the only reason the shooter had access to the weapon is because the parents didn't lock them up, than the parents need to be sitting right next to their kid, facing identical charges. Being too lazy to lock up dangerous weapons needs to be dealt with in the seriousness that it deserves. It's willingly putting the world at risk because of one's own negligance. Its the same as a drunk person killing some innocent traveler on the road, negligent homicide. Same should go for guns.
I agree. And this is the first time they arrested the parents. Finally. After how many ever school shootings we have had since Columbine. I think this arrest of the parents will send a message to all of the other hillbilly parents who buy guns for their underage children for Xmas.
You know what's even better? Not having these lethal weapons in the house or even nearby. Stop the insanity already, ban all guns, stop selling guns, confiscate guns. If nobody has a gun, nobody else needs one either. Look at European countries: we have no guns, we don't need them. Search for news about school or drive-by shootings. How many will you find? None. And you know why? Because we don't have guns, and very good laws to protect us against the insanity that we keep seeing in the US.
I love that Brianna can be free with expressing her emotion over these travesties. She kept it together through her tears - something I most can't do so well. I hope people (and schools) listen and learn from these parents of victims and implement emotion regulation/healthy expression for their children.
I'm not a parent, but I am a very proud Aunt of a 21-year-old niece. These shootings, each and every single shooting causes me anxiety, tears that I can't stop flowing. I can't imagine losing a child, much less to a shooting in a school where they should all be safe. Parents should never have to worry about the safety of their child or their children while they are in school, period.

The fact that this mom gets out there everyday and fights to make change and keep her sons memory alive makes her a hero. She is so strong. I would probably want to crawl in a hole and die. I don’t have that kind of strength and courage
As a retired teacher, I can definitely relate. We drilled every year and it was always in the back of our minds that this might happen. I can definitely state that my former admins would've checked his backpack, locker, and car if he had one. So it really angered me to hear that they ignored the teachers' warning signs and didn't follow through. It's just damn stupid and horrible.. and heartbreaking.
I wouldn’t want to be a teacher right now. You are expected to teach, be a health provider, police, etc. Those teachers that jumped in front of students at Sandy Hook or were locked in closets singing songs to the small children as the shooting went over the loud speaker is unfathomable. I watched the transition last year. I had two in elementary school. In those grades they call them, “lockdown drills.” We live next door to Parkland so that was already in my mind as I sent my oldest off to Jr/Sr High where is is much more prevalent. I was use to my children no longer telling me about the drills because that was their norm now. Then my oldest came home and told me new policy at the older kids schools. They are no longer cheeky and call them “lockdown drills.” They call them what they are, “active shooter drills.” In my kids 2-story school they strategically sit larger kids, boys towards the door. They are told to start pushing everything in front of the door to block it while the other kids start exiting the windows. Even on the second floor, my child was taught hang/drop from window because they will not die from that. They might break a limb, but they could very likely die from being shot. It’s sad to be fortunate to have A.) a girl and B.) to have her be of smaller frame/stature. Sadly, it’s even sadder to be happy we have five girls because girls don’t fit the description of a school shooter. What has this world come to?
@@cherylbritt7227 I wholeheartedly agree with your msg. Profoundly, in fact. But unfortunately, with this particular topic, it's not, "what has this world coming to?" Instead it's, "this is what America has come to." 🙁
I can’t believe these admins didn’t act. My admins would’ve had the police there and things would be locked down. I hate that I have to do active shooter drills with my ten year old students. We talk all the time about what we have to do with a shooter in the building. I grew up in a world where this was unfathomable.
Exactly, how do school administrators and counselors ignore it? According to social media related to Ethan, students wrote that they tried in vain to tell school administration. Some students didn’t even go in on Tuesday. These kids know what’s up; the selfish administration clearly doesn’t and it frustrates a lot of people.

I see comments of other 20 something year olds saying, "I'm glad I'm old enough that I didn't experience this in school". But just think as we approach 30 and people start to have families, you will be sending your little ones to school if not the very same ones these tragedies happen in. She is absolutely right! The signs of some children’s behavior is noticeable at school. If there were enough mental health workers within the school they could observe children that require some support. If educators within the school witness abnormal behavior from a student then it could be reported to a mental health team that works in each school. The problem is American schools is much more focused on distributing $$ each year to other things and not something so important such as the need for mental health workers. The lack of resources and funds for such an important reason is troubling. Funds should go towards increasing mental health workers in school settings!

When kids become killers it's a reflection of failed parenting. It's a parent job to know what's going on with their child. Teach children morals, respect, love for others as well as themselves, anything other than that will grow into a menace to society.

If a students can't behave in class, send him home until he learns morals from parents. Education starts from home. It is not the job of teachers to slap these rude kids. Some parents wanted schools to open in the pandemic because they couldn't handle their own kids at home.
In this case do you really think those parents would have gotten help for their child, I think not, home is not where he would receive the help he needed, just look at the parents and their actions.
The root cause isn't isolation & disconnection - that happens everywhere in the world. The reason mass shootings happen in the US far more than anywhere else is easy access to guns.
There is easy access to guns in Switzerland. It’s definitely something within American culture. The kids who commit these acts clearly have issues with all of the things the Sandy Hook mother mentioned. The solution isn’t simply one thing-it’s multifaceted. Swiss kids are raised to learn how to use guns. They have had ZERO school shootings. There is not one simple answer because comparisons of Switzerland to America is apples to oranges but it’s the best comparison because they too, are a nation that respects firearms. Within their culture it’s seen as a high responsibility tool much like driving a motor vehicle for example
Yes the root cause is easy access to anything.. So, like the incident in Wisconsin, the media places the blame on the suv and not the individual.. But, ok, I'll play along..let's ban all suv's and guns !
I own guns. My father owned guns. I learned to handle a gun safely as a child. All my friends, growing up in Maine owned guns and knew from an early age how to use them. We never had a problem because of guns. The problem is society and the fact that we're raising a generation of weaklings. I buy guns in order to defend my home and the very right to own them if need be.
Here’s an idea for you america- instead of worrying how to fund mental health in schools, you could adopt a free solution we have in the U.K. Not sure your gun loving culture will prioritise the idea of your school kid’s lives above your bang bang obsessions though.
That's so sad I can't imagine to go through this experience with my kids . If anything happens to my kids I'll just go with them nothing is left to live for .
As a current student it's important that we address bullying before we think about guns. The things people are allowed to get away with are insane and ultimately it drives people to do stuff like this. If schools won't hold students accountable than other students will

I've had a quick look through the first dozen or so reponses, and it's remarkable - shocking - that it's only non-Americans who express astonishment at the prevalence of gun-ownership in the USA - Americans simply say that there should be more gun controls. Well, how about exercising full gun control by outlawing gun ownership unless you have a very strong, professional reason for owning one? I know it would take at least a generation to achieve this, but - you know what - how about the USA taking the UK as its role model for once, instead of vice versa?
Exactly. Even the bereaved mother said the "root cause of these shootings was loneliness." There's a lot of loneliness here in Australia, but without easy access to guns, loneliness doesn't translate to school shootings.

1. Drop the death penalty
2. Slowly phase down access to guns in tandem with authorities cracking down on *illegal* gun posession so that criminal groups can essentially be locked up for half their lives if they are found stockpiling firearms.

There are so many children who are overlooked at home and in school with mental health disorders, these problems are distressing to children and disrupt their ability to function well at home, and in school, or in other social situations. Thank you for your service, teachers and students should not need to train for this.

Yeah, this is a club I never wanted my state to be a part of, but was sure we would eventually. Sadly, I am fairly familiar with this nice town. I used to have a couple of small clients there. I called the law office of one of them, this morning because I had gotten fairly close to them. I couldn't speak to the lawyer I was calling because one of his clients is the parent of a victim and he is with them, but Mary, his receptionist - a lovely woman - was telling me that her youngest child graduated from that school last June. She can't help but think that if this had happened 7 months ago, her son could be one of the victims. And yet, too many people don't care. They love their guns more than they love children.
The US society is okay with this…. If they really want change they could force their leaders or better yet replace their leaders who keeps siding with the NRA and the gun industries.

Not true, but partially so. Partly by accident of history, and partly by direct action by the GOP, this country is set up for minority rule. Did you know that the 50 Dem Senators represent 41 million more voters than the 50 GOP Senators? Gerrymandering is another fun tool to ensure that. It is designed to make sure that no matter HOW MANY Dems come out to vote, they cannot win the majority of seats.
This is why the voting rights bills now pending matter so much - so that our society CAN do that.
