Why Would I Cherish This Fountain Pen? - Pen ASMR

  • Relax as I show you a very special Parker 51 fountain pens from my collection. This video is essentially part 2 of my previous Parker 51 fountain pen video that can be viewed from the following link:
    • The World Famous Parke...
    The Parker 51, introduced in 1941, is a fountain pen. Parker’s period advertising called it “The World’s Most Wanted Pen,” a slogan alluding to restrictions on production of pens for the civilian market in the United States during World War II. Parker's continued advertising during the war created a demand for their pens that took several years to fulfill after the end of the conflict.
    The pen was named "51" to mark 1939, the company's 51st year of existence, during which development was completed. By giving the pen a number instead of a name, Parker avoided the problem of translating a name into other languages.
    The "51" was innovative at the time, with its hooded, tubular nib and multi-finned collector, all designed to work in conjunction with the pen's proprietary ink, allowing the nib to stay wet and lay down an even line with either the ultra-fast drying ink or more traditional inks.
    With various refinements, the "51" stayed in production until 1972.
    My videos are best enjoyed using headphones or earbuds.
    The videos on my UA-cam channel portray some of the typical day-to-day activities that I do for relaxation. This video was produced with relaxation in mind and hopefully has some ASMR qualities. Too much stress is harmful to your well-being and in today’s fast-paced world, stress management is more important than ever, and so I hope this ASMR video acts as a stress reliever for those watching and a sleep-aid for anyone having a difficult time falling asleep.

    Youre the only man I watch asmr of. Most guys it weirds me out listening to them slowly whisper, but with you it's like I'm listening to my dad or grandpa.

      The first ASMR I was introduced to, and love to this day, was Bob Ross. I'm with you, however...most of the people I watch are women. The only thing that really weirds me out is ear licking, LOL.

    My grandmother’s mother was institutionalized in the early 40’s for postpartum depression. My great grandfather did the same thing and raised three kids in down town Detroit on the salary of a milk man.
    Yours is an amazing story to hear as like you said it unheard of for men to really take that responsibility with a mother out of the picture.

    I wouldn't recommend using noodlers ink in vintage pens as some have been known to melt the sacks . Id recommend inks like diamine (excluding reds and purples), waterman , Shaffer or montblanc. Great video very relaxing!

    • @evster7flick
      @evster7flick 6 років тому +2

      Lewis Normally I'd agree, but the aerometric 51's are safe with pretty much anything you can throw at it since they were designed for use with Parker super chrome ink, which was incredibly corrosive. Only issue I've really heard of is the sacs staining a bit with some inks.

    • @Witteplaag
      @Witteplaag 6 років тому

      Those inks are well documented as the Baystate series, and I'm sure this gentleman has heard of their misdeeds. Other inks are perfectly fine with vintage pens.

    I always enjoy your fountain pen ASMRs (even those when "remnants" includes an extra "e"!). This was an especially nice one with photos and family/pen history too. Your list of popular names from that era could easily have come from our family tree too! My only additional comment is that many from that era went by dual names such as Velda Ruth etc. You have made me smile! Thank you for sharing.

    Wonderful video and sharing in your memories. You got me into fountain pens with your catfish draw. and I thank you for that. I went slow, but tried several pens. My favorite model is the Parker 75, but contemporary pens, I favor the Asian pen makers such as Pilot and Sailor. Thank you for everything.

    This was at once relaxing, informative, sentimental, and hilarious.
    I liked your philosophy - more fastidious people might be appalled at you contaminating the bottle of ink, but it’s ok, it’s just a bottle of ink, no one needs to be worried. The pen may be valuable but what’s the point of valuing something if you never use it
    Writing “Edith” - “I just about blew it”. And your stomach grumbling :) thank you for sharing!

    I should have played this video when I wrote a second letter to my friend the other day. She wrote to me out of the blue at the start of 2021. I was so pleased as I was able to use my Parker Vector Rollerball Pen to reply to her. 😀
    Not the most expensive piece of kit but I just love Parkers, I really do. I have a ballpoint version that I write in my diary every day and I love that too. The sounds in this were very soothing and that Parker 51 is amazing. In fact, I want one now lol.

      Gaslamp ASMR The P51 aerometric came supplied with a sac made from plyglass (not sure of the name). Basically an indestructible flexible plastic. These sacs survive 70 years or more. The pen is a true marvel of engineering. Most probably one of the best pens ever made.

    I hate to burst your bubble, but I suspect that the residual ink you flushed from the bladder was really black. Black ink is made by combining two or more different color dyes which absorb parts of the light spectrum to create the perception of black. In cleaning out black inks from pens I've purchased off of eBay, I often find they initially look green or red. The more you flush the bladder, the darker the water became. I also noticed a couple of black stains on the paper towel you used to blot the nib after filling the pen.
    I'm sure that green ink was available to fountain pen users of the day, but I'm sure black and blue inks were far more common. Green ink seems a little out there for the mid-1940s.
    I have a Parker 51 set that was my Grandmother's. It is an all metal Flighter set. I used it for a while but I found it virtually impossible to clean out all the ink from the bladder. You either have to stick with one color ink or accept that whatever ink you use is going to be adulterated by whatever went before. I have fond memories of my Grandmother who lived well into her 90s. I had been out of college for nearly 10 years when she passed. Having this treasured possession gives me a great deal of comfort and is a touchstone for a great many pleasant memories.

    • @RelaxingASMR
      @RelaxingASMR  6 років тому +1

      My friend, nothing you could possibly say would burst my bubble. All information is greatly appreciated. What you said about the "green" ink makes sense. I was surprised to see green come from that pen. Since then though, I have cleaned the pen and will take another shot at writing with it.I'll use the Parker Quink next time though. Hang on t that Flighter set:)

    That pen is not from the 1940s. That on is from the late 50s or later. It is a Mark I aerometric. The greatest pen ever. The Toyota Camry of pens. I have a 46 vac and it cannot be beaten. There is no better pen, and never will be. Many good, but never as good as the 51.
