Thank you for this video! It’s really a pity that C.J. Sansom passed away. I have read first two books in this series a couple of years ago in Russian translation and enjoyed, they are so good written. I hope that I’ll read all the series in English. And thank you so much for showing us Australia!

      Good Morning Daria!
It is always lovely to hear from you. Thank you for your comment.
Yes, CJ Sansom was a brilliant writer. If you can get your hands on the rest of the Shardlake series, I really recommend that you do, especially as you enjoyed the first two.
I hope the channel is showing you the real Australia. Although a sometimes 'harsh' country in terms of its flora and fauna, it has a magical beauty of its own. I hope to continue showing the world what a wonderful place Australia is.
      Happy reading and good eating!
      ABT.

@@mattmack4278 Hello! Thank you for watching and joining the channel.
Oh my goodness, you ask a truly difficult question (and is difficult to answer briefly on this platform). This is similar to asking which child a parent favours!
Firstly, I became more and more enamoured with Matthew with each novel, and so my love for the series synchronised with the familiarity of him. I think Matthew's character not only grew but, of course, we were allowed in to his life and personality, more and more which then encourages/allows the reader to step in to his shoes and understand him more. For me, the whole series was brilliant because even after reading the seven novels, I was left wanting so much more of both Matthew, his life and beliefs/ethics/moral dilemmas, historical content and the mysteries or tasks he was assigned to partake in /investigate (I was not bored with any of these factors throughout the series). This is a true testament to a great story-teller.
'Dissolution' was incredible, not only because it was the introduction to the characters, but C.J Sansom set the historical content so well, with Matthew slowly 'changing' his perspective on religion and his own moral beliefs. So Dissolution was wonderful.
To cut my rambling short.....My favourite?...Hmmm, if you really push me....possibly 'Tombland'. Here we see Jack Barak again and the amazing scenes of the peasant rebellion, with indications that Matthew is possibly feeling his age a little (for those times).
I think I am going to have to re-read these wonderful novels, to give you a more definitive and in-depth answer. Did I really need an excuse?.....No!
One absolute, definitive thing I can say is this:
I truly admire C.J Sansom's work on this series and am bereft that we can no longer delve into Matthew's world of 'his' future. I would liked to have seen him get very old indeed and know what he thought of England at that time (and what further duties/mysteries he would find himself in).
Thank you so much for your question and engaging me in these thoughts. Perhaps we can continue once I have re-read the series?
A question for you: Have you read S.J Parris's Elizabethan series?
I hope you continue to enjoy the channel @mattmack4278.
      Happy reading and safe travels

Thank you for your wonderful reply!
I should have initially messaged on a new comment, apologies.
The points you brought up I completely agree with regarding the desire to learn increasingly more about Shardlake the more we are allowed in that world and the sad fact there will be no further entries as I did read that there was an 8th in its early stages before Sansom passed.
Again, your point about potentially seeing him grow old was interesting. It brought to mind the books/TV Show 'I, Claudius' where the protagonist weaves his way through a political viper's-nest of ancient Rome, to old age (I've only seen the TV Show).
It's true about the difficulty of picking your favourite book but for me personally, I'd say Sovereign. I'm from the UK and have visited all the locations (not on a Shardlake pilgrimage, just naturally over time) and the location of Sovereign in York resonated most with me.
A formula of the Shardlake series I think makes it work is in every book there is a time-limit and an invisible perimeter he can't pass. I mean he could leave London etc anytime but the consequences would be dire.
I have read SJ Parris' Prophecy but that's it. I do need to read more of those.
All the best to you and your channel.
      Matt (not Matthew lol)

@@mattmack4278 What a great chat Matt. Thank you so much for bringing energy and vitality to the channel/comments.
We are looking at having a 'live' session/zoom meeting with all subscribers once we reach, say, 5000 subscribers (to celebrate and to really get to know you all and just have a general chat), perhaps you would be interested to discuss CJ Sansom's work then? or we are thinking of having a discussion group or similar, where we can have our own book club through the channel (with real time). Would this interest you at all?
Thank again Matt. I really do enjoy chatting about books and series that I am passionate about and you gave me something to think about.
We hope you continue to enjoy our channel.
      Happy reading and safe travels
