Love your chicken run! Thank you for the guided tour. Silkies are lovely little chickens. Fox attacks are horrific! Seared into my psyche. I like the idea of the preventive fencing to keep away snakes.

Good Morning @anitazubulis4867, Thank you for joining the channel and watching. We also appreciate your comment/interaction. We shall be showing more of the development of the chicken run, over the coming months. We are currently researching ideas to improve its look and usability. We have Araucana chickens (the rooster is a cross and the grey girl is an old Araucana) and the two white girls are Leghorn cross. One of the white girls (the third white) and the little brown are cross bred chickens from the Araucana and an old Isa Brown girl we had. Silkies are lovely but I think they may be too small too fit in with these larger girls (they may get 'picked on'). We will need to have a good think about the breeds we choose, but will keep Silkies in mind. Fox attacks are horrendous, and so we do all we can to mitigate the likelihood of one ever happening again. So far, the small aviary wire at the bottom of the run fencing, has kept snakes at bay (and we have a few around the property and one big Brown snake around the house!!), but we may try a few other ideas as 'back up', just in case it has been only luck, these last ten years, that has kept the girls safe. We hope you continue to enjoy the channel and please do feel free to chat/connect/comment with any ideas or thoughts you may have. Happy reading and safe travels ABT

I grew up here before moving to Maryborough at age 11. We spent summers at the creek with no adult supervision (before they let the vegetation take over) We lived in No. 25 on the list of historic buildings…the Presbyterian Manse… I vaguely recall catching a train from the station, probably around the year it closed. Did you see the primary school?

Good Morning @VirgoAngie, Thank you for joining the channel and contributing, by commenting. It is always wonderful to hear/read comments when people, such as yourself, have lived in the towns we show. Carisbrook, although only a small hamlet, really is a lovely location. We intend to return to all towns at some point as it is often too much to show viewers all places of interest in each town, and the channel really is intended to show libraries, bookshops or street free libraries, around Australia. We did not film the primary school on this occasion, but will shall next time (I cannot recall its location or if we did see it on our tour around Carisbrook, but if it is still there, we will film it!). We hope you continue to enjoy the channel and do keep in touch, we enjoy chatting! Happy reading and safe travels ABT

That was really interesting! Love the layout of your chook run. We have fruit trees in ours too. I think they fruit so well due to all the lovely chook manure. Look forward to seeing how you progress with the renovations 🐓

Thank you so much Sue. The chicken run is very basic but as I say, I would like to see it more interesting for the chickens (and for us) and a little 'prettier' to look at. I am currently researching ideas. The fruit trees definitely benefit from the chickens, not only with their manure, but decomposing food scraps, weeds/grasses and the hay. We are excited to be sharing this small project with you all. Let's see how it all ends up. Take care, have a great week, see you in the next video. Cheryl (ABT)

I always think of Book week for kids books, it's a fun time on the school Calendar. I've reserved a few books at the library to share with my grandson, that were finalists in the Australian Book Council Prize. My collection has extended to beautiful Australian children picture books for a while. I need to go back to reading Miles Franklin's Bio, she lived around this region with her family. A friend of mine was friends with her extended family in Brindabella. The first Australian novel written by a woman writer was written on a property just a few minutes from where I live, hubby goes past it on his commute to work everyday, it's not really discussed much. The novel was The Guardian: An Australian Tale (1838) by Anna Maria Bunn. I'd love to find a copy, probably not many around. I was given a copy of The Familiars last week, it had been on my goodreads list, I might read it around Halloween. Is it a good idea to read The Wreak by Meg Keneally before reading Free? I haven't read either yet. A Fortunate Life is a great book. Some fun reading there from Freemantle Press, interested to hear your thoughts. That Treasures series does look pretty. Currently reading a debut that has lovely flowery writing, Where Light Meets Water by Susan Paterson. Happy Reading. 🙂

Good Afternoon @kimswhims8435,Thank you for joining the channel and for your wonderful comment. Book week as originated by the ABC, was and still is designed for children, however, for all of us who love books and reading, it is a great excuse to join in on the fun! So I say 'Let's celebrate'! It is lovely to know that you also read children's books. It really is a super way to re-ignite our imagination, unwind a little from 'adulting' and helps us to empathise and understand life from a child's/young adult's point of view (and they do have some terrific storylines too!). 'Free' by Meg Keneally can be read before or exclusive to 'The Wreak', so whichever you choose to read first, is certainly not 'wrong' or will not inhibit either novels. Enjoy! ''A Fortunate Life' is a fabulous novel. I read it many years ago and I am looking forward to re-reading it soon. The 'Treasure series' edition is definitely encouraging me to do so. They are wonderful, good quality books. I will be revealing all on the ARC's from Fremantle Press in the coming weeks, so stay tuned! I would like to read, 'Where Light meets Water'. It is on my TBR pile....the ever growing pile! Take care and do not forget to enter our book competition. Details on how to enter will be in future videos. Happy reading and safe travels ABT

More books for us to learn about, good news all around. I love the fact that the first Australian novel was a crime novel, written by a convict 😆. Thank you so much Anne! The channel is growing steadily, which is terribly exciting and it is all due to all of you who watch and subscribe. The support we receive is amazing. I felt awful when I received all seven books from Fremantle Press, but also most honoured that they have faith in me to be able to read, appreciate and recommend the books. They are a wonderful publishing house. I could not stop laughing when I researched and found that the very first novel published was a crime novel (my favourite, of course) and that it was written by a convict. How ironic on all fronts!!🤣. You are not the first and you will not be the last person to think Miles Franklin was a man. In fact, even at the time of her introduction, via letter, to Henry Lawson, he had to ask whether she was a 'woman or a man'. So you are in good company! Have a super week, and we shall talk soon, Happy reading and safe travels Cheryl

Hello @Philipbowman-gx1wb, Thank you for joining the channel, watching and commenting. We appreciate your interaction. When filming from outside a property, viewing what is visible to the public, there is no requirement to obtain permission. If I video inside a building (a shop/museum/information centre), permission is always obtained on site, from those in charge. We also try, where possible, not to video people, even if they are on the street, although this can be a challenge in crowded areas. Again, in a public place, permission is not required. Thank you so much for your interesting comment. We hope you continue to enjoy the channel. Happy reading and safe travels ABT

We may have to change that by donating a Mitford novel to the Street Free Library!! The Bunyip Hotel looked so inviting, but was not open at the time of filming. First of all, congratulations on your partnership with Fremantle Press, that is such exciting news!! 🥳 I'm really happy for both you and us because you'll get to share these books with us and I'm very interested to learn more. I have not heard of any of the four books you mentioned today, they look absolutely beautiful and I can get them over here in Holland but they are expensive (€30/A$50). I'll definitely put them on my Christmas list though 😁 Like you said it's the best of the best, both Australian authors and an Australian publisher! I think this video is my new favorite, these kind of books are relatively unknown here in Holland and it just sparks my interest to learn about completely new (to me!) books. Good Morning Anne-Marije! Thank you so much. We are super excited to be presenting books from Fremantle Press. We believe it to be an amazing opportunity to read and present these wonderful Australian authors, Australian stories and published by an established and incredible Australian company. Winning all 'round!. Hmmm, I wonder if ordering the books from Fremantle Press directly would be cheaper? You could go on-line and 'place an order', go to check out and before you are able to pay, it should give you the post cost. It may be worth trying to see if it does work out cheaper that way. Just a thought. There are so many Australian authors that Fremantle Press publish. This will be a plethora of books for all of us to discover and along with other ideas for the channel that we have, we are hoping that everyone will be excited and happy for each new video of the future. It is subscribers such as yourself who encourage and invigorate us for the channel, so THANK YOU! Still no rain today, but a warmer day expected😏🥴. We think we will be buying water for our tank shortly if it does not rain soon. Having said that, the forecast claims we should be getting Spring rains. I will be dancing for joy, out in it, if that happens 😄. The lamp! I bought that lamp approximately 30 odd years ago. It has travelled far and wide with me. I loved and still love, the fact that it has a dog at the boy's feet. That is the reason I bought it!😆 Ok, must begin work (editing) otherwise there will not be a video to upload for next Saturday! Take care in the heat, and I will chat again soon. Cherylx

They are truly delightful AND there is still a Donkey Sanctuary on his property, as he and his wife bequeathed land and funds for the sanctuary to continue (it is still on site today). We hope you are well, enjoying each day, laughing and living at your best!! My grandfather came from Dunolly, his brother's name is on the memorial to the fallen that you passed by at the start, he died at the Nek during the Gallipoli campaign. It's important to remember those who gave their lives for the nation & all country towns have memorials to that end. Seeing those memorials (onsidering the small size of many towns) it's tragic to contemplate how many were lost in WW1.

Tracy Chevalier is one of my favorite authors and I loved that book! I bought it in Winchester after visiting the Cathedral so when I came home and read it,it brought me right back! 🥰 I don't know if it's on purpose but when you start talking about the play the color goes to black and white? Thank you for telling us about the play,it doesn't sound fun at all,I'm sorry it was a disappointment. I so agree about Mr.Collins, he's pompous but he did want to marry one of the Bennett sisters to keep the property in the family. He's so hilarious in the novel 🤭 I can't see Jane as catty either,so it was a miss. Hopefully there will be a better Jane Austen play in the future and that those school kids in the audience do their own research 🤞🏼 Thank you for a lovely Monday book (and play!) chat 🤓💕

    • @AustralianBookTravels-ii8iy

Good Morning Anne! Tracy Chevalier is a talented novelist, for sure! I thoroughly enjoyed 'A single thread'. An easy, comfy read with a good amount of intrigue and mystery. Yes, the black and white section of the filming was deliberate. It was an added section as I had forgotten to discuss the Jane Austen play and I decided to experiment with editing to make things a little more interesting for viewers (also to see what I can do artistically with the editing package!). The play was certainly disappointing but it is necessary to have these experiences so that our own story-telling and general life, is varied. These type of experiences are never wasted. Wishing you a lovely day, take care, reads lots and relax where you can. Cheryl
