From the Pavarotti chorus, I think he's singing a love song to the woman of the place, mentioning love ( L'Amour) and the heartbreak of loss and suffering in a war torn place, so far from care... I don't speak Italian or Latin, but I see the lyrics in the tongue he sings it in and it's easy to make out the key words... so haunting... it is his ode to the human endurance and the plight of woman in sufferance... quite haunting... I don't think you'd be alive or human if it didn't stir your emotions or bring a tear to your eyes... :)
To all : I read many misunderstanding about the sense of this magnificiant song. It's a tribute about the terrible civil war from 1992 to 1995 which took place in ex-Yougoslavia. The images when you see people running in the streets are real footages of the time. It took place in Sarajevo, in the main boulevard of the city, where innocent and armless civilians were cowardly shot in their heads by snippers hidden inside the buildings. So, to try so save their lives, civilians were obliged to run and hide as fast as possible. In these terrible conditions, a "Miss Sarajevo beauty competition" weirdly took place in 1994. It was really surrealist under such circumstances. That's why on the banner the girls hold it's written : "Don't let them kill us". So magnificient lyrics from Bono and Pavarotti are just perfect to describe the situation : " Here she comes, Heads turn around, Here she comes, To take her crown, (...) Is there a time to run for cover (...) Here she comes, Beauty plays the clown, Here she comes : Surreal in her crown..." Both Pavarotti and Bono are extroardinary of respect, not only for each other, but also to play tribute to these innocent people dead.
I knew an ex-soldier from the French foreign legion Very tough guy. He fought in this war. He said nothing, not Iraq, not any other war came close to the levels of bestiality he witnessed.
It’s 2024 and this masterpiece stands tall amongst todays music , the injection of Mr Pavarotti’s voice and verse takes this to another level , truly a masterpiece 🔥
We all have pain in our lives, and for the deepest and most enduring pain all we can do is compartmentalize. This song always blows away the walls of my pain's compartments, and my tears are like the river Parvarotti sings about.
Pavarotti what a wonderful voice I don't think I've ever herd such an amazing opera mix beautiful peace of music no body will ever be as good as Pavarotti
yep, Luciano was a a real outlier-stud. No other person, in no other language can convey the emotion of just the word "love" as done here by Pavarotti.
My heart beats quicken knowing that Pavorotti will sing his part and when he does my heart sings such happiness, I just love hearing him every time. And I've been a loyal U2 fan for 40 years now, no other band comes close to Bono and the success they earned and enjoyed. I wish that Pavorotti was still here and he could sing again with U2, but he's in heaven singing with the angels. May God bless them all, in my heart I hope the best for them. 👍❤
Song’s been ringing in me head all day. I think some fairy was playing it😂 Just woke up from slumber and remembered so I’m playing and also shared with my friend at Italy
A brilliant song, a unique piece of music, a necessary song that came out of it’s time, days of war and a statement about the perverse disproportion of normality and war. I’m not a fan of U2 but this is for sure one of the best songs ever and their best work.
E bellissimo di sapere che connosci Bekim Fehmiu, non ci posso credere! Siamo nati a Zugoslavia, e connosciamo la storia di lui molto bene! E una cosa proprio meravigliosa che lo rispetti.Grande saluto a te.
Me when hearing Bono sing. : chillin and enjoying. Me when Pavarotti sings : Chills down my back and closes eyes while imagining dancing with a beautiful woman.
Breathtaking, spellbinding and haunting all at once.I've always thought this song should have been played at the end of a Sopranos episode.......or even Miami Vice....... Somebody's about to die.
English translation of the Italian lyrics: You say that as a river finds its way to the sea And as the river you'll find your way back to me Beyond the borders and the thirsty lands You say that as the river As the river, you say that love will find a way But love, I'm not a praying man And in love I can't believe anymore And for love I can't wait anymore

@4:00 Instead of Christmas trees it seems he says "Christmas truce" which refers to the historical 1914 Christmas truce between the fighting armies of World War 1.

It's an ode to woman suffering abuse, rape, torture and loss in a war - torn place, so far from care... while a puppet dictatorship stages beauty pageants to show the world a different image - did you not see the banner the contestant's display "please don't let them kill us" - the government and waring factions - snipers - on three different "sides" - two religious and the armed forces - taking out innocent people - woman, mainly, just trying to survive, while some fascist regime plays with the stolen revenue and toil of its people to buy desirable, designer shoe's and fashion, cars and real estate in other countries, while hundreds of thousands of people suffer in camps, displaces people starving, children sold for a passport out of the place... this was a song of its time, trying to let the world know about what was really going on, while the 'UN' just "policed" and condoned the utter destruction and pillage of the place... while you just sat back and thought... "I don't even know what the song means..." I suppose you Trump is a really cool guy, too... right... gimme a break... grow up :)

2:31 for Pavarotti
Is there a time for keeping your distance
A time to turn your eyes away
Is there a time for keeping your head down
For getting on with the day
Is there a time for kohl and lipstick
A time for cutting hair
Is there a time for high street shopping
To find the right clothes to wear
Here she comes
Heads turn around
Here she comes
To take her crown
Is there a time to run for cover
A time for kiss and tell
Is there a time for different colours
Different names you find so hard to spell
Is there a time for first communion
A time for synagogue
Is there a time to turn to Mecca
A beauty queen before God
Here she comes
Beauty plays the clown
Here she comes
Surreal in her crown
Dici che il fiume
Trova la via al mare
E come il fiume
Giungerai a me
Oltre i confini
E le terre assetate
Dici che come fiume
Come fiume...
L'amore giungerà
L'amore...
E non so più pregare
E nell'amore non so più sperare
E quell'amore non so più aspettare
Is there a time for shared values
A time to turn this aside
Is there a time
A time for human rights
