- Here is an awesome trumpet duet featuring both Mr. Arturo Sandoval and Mr. Wayne Bergeron playing the chart "Maynard and Waynard". In my opinion it doesn't get any better than this. My son and I were both here to catch Arturo Sandoval and his L.A. Big Band and were pleasantly surprised to see Mr. Wayne Bergeron playing in the trumpet section of Arturo's band. We loved their playful exchange as they traded bars soloing together. Not only are these two trumpet players two of the finest in the whole wide world...they both have a warm and friendly personality to go along with it. Thank you for all of the awesome music that you both treat our ears with. Some of the best ear candy we have ever had. We will be back to see you both again...SOON!
Whoever is playing lead trumpet aint no joke either
dlonra65 Dan fornero I think
I believe it's Gary Grant.
9&r
So really we have three lead trumpeters! Only see two.
@@diontegrinstead77 Dan Fornero is fantastic- had the pleasure of performing with him at a jazz concert last year. Great guy.
Not one single person on here can judge Arturo, or Wayne. Two of the best trumpeters of all time.
5:15 is just the definition of big band music, love it.
Sandoval and Bergeron - without question two of the very best trumpet players on the planet. What a thrill to hear them together - and you can tell it's a mutual admiration respect and friendship.
Doug Skinner i would consider Sandoval Number 1 and Bergeron Number 10. But number 1 on lead trumpet and my personal favorite😄
Late comment but have you ever heard of James Morrison or Doc Severinsen
@@keelandavis I like Maynard Ferguson for the high notes
Personally i preferred wayne on this, but they are both freaks of nature lol.
Maynard and Dizzy are looking down, pleased
3:30-3:45 both players showcase their personal recognizable style. Arturo and his huge vibrato and Wayne with his amazing high register control/ fat sound. Words cannot describe how awesome this piece is.
Btw Arturo also has a larger range but with a worse tone. Ex: Last note in a mis abuelos and a night in tunisia
@@AComplexMex hahahaha, really?
@@ArturoSandovalTrumpet hahahah little does he know!
4:13 Haha! the look on Arturo's face when Wayne hits that godlike high note !
2 best trumpet players in the world imo
6:25 is the definition of using compression for the upper register. I can't seem to grasp it quite yet, but MAN you can see when it works!
That must be Dan Fornero killin it on lead trumpet!
He shares lead responsibilities with Wayne and willie Murillo for the big phat band
rashwon ross is the best for the role
I studied jazz in grad school and most of the trumpeters and others were down on Arturo Sandoval. I didn't understand. They'd say he's crass, or tasteless, etc. It always sounded like jazz-snobbery to me. I made a T shirt that read: "Not too cool to like Arturo Sandoval."
Jonas Butler they(!) didn't understand :)
Arturo and Wayne are just ridiculous. Even the horn section is awesome. I love these guys to no end. I speak with Wayne often and he is one of the humbliest guys that you could every meet. Amazing.
3:20 best flutter tongue ever.
It sounds like he adds a growl.
The band is burning on this. The lead player isn't gun and the bass bine sounds great.
Jarrod Harrison
BuckWheat...
...IS THAT YOU?
The amazing thing - you play this good, you have fun - no assholery!
3:40 Sandoval quotes the trumpet solo in George Gershwin's 'An American In Paris'
The boundaries of jazz by individual musicians have been pushed beyond any stretch of wild imagination Arturo and Wayne in this piece were superb in skill and imagination.
Whoever is playing lead trumpet is an absolute monster, hell of a player they are.
Arturo’s improvisation has skyrocketed over the last 10 years
Arturo Sandoval, you rock! We love you!
Siempre me a gustado la manera en que hace ejecuta los fraseos el maestro Arturo Sandoval, algo incomparable las improvisaciones ni digamos.
Fantastic! Great solos and the rhythm section is fantastic!
Fantastic performance of both...well done!
Nice post...Love it. Wayne is Great !!
I've had the pleasure and fortune of seeing them both live, but not sharing the same stage. I was fortunate enough to see this song performed by Maynard's Big Bop Nouveau many, many years ago when I was in high school, and several of my high school jazz band mates and I got to meet Maynard and Wayne after the show. Pure class, humble people that were a pleasure to share a handful of minutes talking jazz with and it made for a very dear memory for us all. Getting to watch this, to see the respect Arturo and Wayne clearly have for each other, and how much fun they had riffing off of each other, a gem of a performance paying homage to a man they both knew, loved, and respected. Thanks so much for sharing this. You and your son were very fortunate to see this live.
I'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed this video MickeyKraut419 and that it brought back some awesome memories for you. Thanks for watching this video and leaving your positive comments. My son also being a trumpet player like myself thoroughly enjoy anytime we can see and listen to either Arturo (his own big band) or Wayne (Big Phat Band) and having them both together on stage playing a duet together was a musical experience that our ears will never forget. BTW you are absolutely correct about both of these individuals being a class act and are humble people. No chips on either of these guys shoulders! We've taking photos with them together and they were always so very gracious giving us the time to do so. They are so professional behind the horn and equally as much while in front of their horns!!!
Best part of this, and there was a LOT of great music being made, was Arturo didn't turn it into a cutting contest. He made a joke of all the quotes, played full, and rich, and made love to the lower register, and let Wayne shine in the upper. So complimentary to one another, and Dan Fornero just killed as he always does on lead.
And again, had to edit 3 times, to see how many ways I can misspell Fornero. Forturno? Formerro? Formica? Forturro?
Dude Waynes ear, immediately grabbed that the lead trumpet was sharp.
Two giants sharing the same stage ....what an experience
sweet!!!! Love it !!! Wished I was there.
These two are at top of there game with the trumpet. Both are fantastic
them boys can "BLOW", and make it look easy. Whew!
Anyone else recognize Wayne playing Bugler's Holiday at the very beginning?
As time goes by
That's a super Big band with two leading legendary trumpeters! Arturo with his usual broad sound and Wayne with his fat and precise tone
I love how Wayne mimics Arturo's sound perfectly.
Joel Tucker I agree with your assessment for both Wayne Bergeron and Arturo Sandoval. I also have seen Wayne play this same chart with other trumpet players before and every time Wayne plays with someone else he really listens and never upstages any of his guests playing ability. Between Arturo and Wayne though we really are splitting hairs as to who the favorite might be. I love both of their musical playing abilities and I always look forward to watching them play live in concert. They both are the cream of the crop top notch professionals with terrific personalities as well. BTW... Has anyone ever noticed and recognized the little "Buglers Holiday" riff that Wayne plays right before they started this tune?
I think These are the greatest duo together(in my opinion)
凄い!素晴らしいです!流石です!
The lead trumpet player is good too!
Thanks!
Yes Sir!!!! History. Epic!
Impresionante .. como siempre
The fact that both of these legendary musicians still follow music during concerts is amazing to me. You'd think, as long as they've been playing and writing music, they have every chart ever written memorized. But holy cow are they good. Easily some of the absolute BEST in the business.
4:19" dafuq was that wayne?!" XD
Maestros... Y el big Band ufff
GRANDES ! GIGANTES DE LA TROMPETA !
1:17 when Wayne turns around, the lead trumpet would have been shitting himself. Absolutely nailed it though.
I got to play next to wayne in my middle school jazz band, I was shitting my pants for sure
Who's on lead trumpet in the band? He's a beast.
Dan Fornero. I think he's in the Big Phat Band with Wayne.
Nicholas Brister yup they share lead responsibilities along with willie Murillo sometimes if one of them can’t make a gig
1:19 “is that you, Louis?”
Joey Crowned I got that one ;) dowdeswell up next!
They may be amazing, but don't forget those amazing sax soli's and brass fills in between
Сандовал-очень круто!
It doesn't get better than this😁😁😁

Chris Compositions yeah that's Dan fornero

5:28 Arturo- y’all thought y’all was finna get something high
😂 this thought he was about to go double high G!
I believe it was Gary Grant playing lead for that tune, Wayne was playing lead the rest of the night. I was there too! I think the singer from Kool and the Gang sat in that night...interesting to say the least.
GOOD play🎺🎺👍❗️
de merveilleux trompettistes qui donnent envie d'avancer
Lead trmp in the background needs more recognition omg🤣
wowowowow

That hit at 1:26 is so satisfying
3:28 As Time Goes By
Perfect setup to play "mueva los huesos." Not sure Arturo would take it on anymore. Great video quality. Keep it up.

mutal respect tween 2 horn players
1:30 is the best part lol😂
Wayne is a trumpet for hire in the LA music scene so why not hire yourself out to Mr. Sandoval? After all, he used to be Maynard's lead trumpet.
nice

Wayne looks like a sturdy William H Macy
Are they using Bb trumpets or C trumpets? I can't tell the difference because I just started trumpet
Justin Warren they are both playing on Bb trumpets. Keep on playing your horn! Stay with it and practice, practice, practice!
