Disagree on Rockets not being contenders if they were to trade for Luka. Won’t happen but with the progress made by Sengun, a Luke-Sengun pairing would setup pretty nicely for the present and future. With all the first round picks the Rockets have, I also don’t think they’d have to give up as much as you might think so as long as they keep 2 out of Jalen/Cam/Amen/Jabari then they’d still have enough to start entering into the conversation, IMO.

Plus note as well that the NBA was under an expansion back in the 90s. Just like adding water to juice it dillutes the league making competition weaker. Notice how you can only really name only a few top players in the 90s but now almost every team has a legendary caliber player.

Dude some of this analysis is just unfair. Luka doesn’t need a 3rd star player. He needs guys who are plus defenders, shooters and rebounders. Kinda like Washington and gafford…. There’s plenty of “star” on the roster. And when you have one of the best in the game today, you are a threat to make a run every year.

OKC or Spurs, that's right, those are the only possibilities, but I doubt it will happen, the risks and the enormous stakes are a monster barrier for the directive of both teams. First, it's needed that Luka demands that, with no way back possible. Then OKC will have to be interested. OKC can get in business this summer, and they will with any other NBA franchise. So even if Mavs want that, they have to compete with many other OKC possibilities, probably less good as Luka, but also easier to negotiate without giving away so much of their assets. So it all depends on how complicated a summer OKC thunders want to have (if Luka requests that, madly)
OKC already have a ball dominant guard in SGA adding Luka would be a disaster. It would be like when Russel Westbrook and Harden teamed up in Huston. OKC already have there future stars Jalen Williams SGA and Chet they should look to add depth and more Veterans.
@@emilfrederiksen.1622 SGA has 31% USG% , Kyrie Irving has 28% and get along with Luka with 35% very well. If Luka plays with SGA would be even more effective duo than Kyrie and Luka together. Other teams would have really no idea who to guard, and SGA is much better defensive than Kyrie. Together with a more experienced Chet, he would be having more space and easy passes.

Their core of sga chet and williams is already fine as is plus this is only the beginning of their development but yeah chet needs help inside so that he can slide back to the pf position instead where he'd be a lot more comfortable in.

Luka addressed that fake report in a very public very viral confrontation with the reporter that made it up. It went so unbelievably viral that it is crazy you opened your video saying that The Mavericks said they have fear he is going to leave. And Luka complaining alot to referees and trash talking opponents is not even close to a sign of him being frustrated with the franchise. It's literally his normal behaviour since the day he was drafted
I liked the video, but you made two good points. About the second one, anybody who knows a little bit Luka's playing, is aware that this is his normal behaviour.
As a Spurs fan it'd be a dream to get Luka with Wemby. And the fact is anybody is expendable besides Wemby. With all the draft picks plus Tre Jones, Blake Wesley, Devin Vassell, Malaki Branham, Keldon Johnson, Sidy Cissoko, Jeremy Sochan, etc. there is so many trade assets on that team.
As far as OKC goes, yes Shai/Chet/Luka probably wins titles. But I don't think Shai or Luka either should be off ball players or secondary ball handlers. I'm sure they would make it work based on pure talent.
Very interesting insights; I think his best options are The Spurs and The Thunder; he would learn so much if he is coach by Popovich and I think the city of San Antonio wouldn't mean a big change of scenery as going to Oklahoma. I think it would be awesome to see Doncic play with Wembanyama; by the other hand, Oklahoma has a very interesting young big 3 core and adding Doncic would definitely helps Oklahoma to win a Championship soon and maybe become a dynasty team winning several NBA championships.
Thunder needs a big man not a guard. They have sga, williams and josh. Chet is gonna be amazing bit is too soft. I saw nurkic bully him and get like 30+ boards the other day. Luka on the spurs on the other hand would be insane. I have seen multiple spurs game irl this season and wemby needs a playmaker. Like this video showed, luka would create and pass to wemby a lot for easy buckets and wemby's defense is amazing. Last team could be nuggets for murray but i dont see that happening per se.
OKC already have an MVP caliber Guard in SGA. Adding depth and a center should be there focus and growing together as a group since there core is still very young.

SGA & Luka are both top dogs - ball dominant leading scorers. I don't see a world in which that is "league shattering". JDub is a wing, Chet is a center, SGA is a guard. 3 elite players with 3 different roles

If Luka goes to SA then it’s a wrap for the entire league between 2026-2032. They could possibly win 5-7 chips together. I think everyone sees that Wemby is gonna be a top 5 player in this league in a few years and that would be like Shaq and Kobe all over again. The question is who would be looked at as the MAN on that team?! I personally think it would be a more equal share of the pie with them both ending up top 5 players all time if they can win that many titles.
Correction: Wemby is going to be the BEST player in the league in a few years . He and Luka and a number of quality role players would be devastating !

Nice video! I think he could demand for a trade if they go nowhere like last season, which is likely. Since the Dirk era I am a Mavs fan and I wish Luka could stay in Dallas. But I've been thinking in a trade for him for a while and I guess this would be the best for both. The Mavs could increase their picks, something they lost, and rebuild with others pieces. I agree with Kidd and consider Luka the a player in MJ and LJ category, so it would be sad seeing it. But, thinking on his legacy and, like you said, what he already lost because of Mavs' incompetence, a trade will probably happen sonner or later. Spurs came to my mind, but not OKC. If the Mavs still have some wisdom they should never let this situation, by any means, go to Luka's free agency, or it would be a disaster for them as a corporation .Let's see what happens
Nico been doing great work to keep luka in Dallas and building a real roster. Gone are the days of Powell, Bertans, Frank Ntilikina, Reggie Bullock, Injured KP, Josh Richardson, Justin jackson, Boban, Trey Burke, Mickenly Wright IV, Moses Brown, Willie Cauley Stein, Seth Curry, Grant Williams etc... after missing the playoffs last year the only real expectation is to get ot the 2nd round. If they do that then the season is a success and they keep building towards the next year or two. The Mavs have a three year window before Kyrie gets too much older to really be the second option. This video points out all the "medium" sized contracts like Maxi, Green, PJ Washington, and Gafford. He claims these are bad contracts yet I'd argue only maxi has the bad contract here. As a mavs fan who has watched every game this year, each of these role guys are playing up to their contracts aside from maxi mainly due to his injury prone body. My main point with these "bad contracts" ; like he says is that they actually aren't. Stars make a lot of money and these medium-sized contracts are the best way to reach the salary requirements, making the Mavericks one of the teams who actually have the assets to go get a solidifed 3rd option next to Luka and Kai. The mavs still have picks to work with inlcuding the contracts to match, and are poised to make some noise in the playoffs. Don't write the Mavs off so easily, especially Luka.

Luka and Wemby would be a bit too broken I feel. I doubt Dallas and NBA would let it happen. Let’s say this happens in 2026, Wemby could be best player in league and whatever your view on Luka is he’s gonna be at top pecking order regardless in near future . Cracked
What if Boston loses to Denver in the finals (I wrote an entire article on why I think that will happen)? Then Boston offers Jaylen brown, Tillman, and half their bench to Dallas for Luka. Dallas gets an all NBA player, a perennial all star, and a guy who we’ve seen show capabilities of being a 1A on a good team (he tends to take over when Tatum doesn’t have it, he nearly won ASMVP this year). Brown could step in and give that team 25-30ppg right away and be their alpha, something nobody else that you listed could do. He’s be the best player on that team, whereas in any other trade Kyrie would become the de facto best player, something you don’t exactly want if you’re Dallas.
And Boston obviously gets Luka, a playmaker (something they’ve never had at his level since Rondo) and a guy who is a proven assassin in the clutch, their biggest weakness. Not to mention they get to pair the two best superstars at their age together for their primes. Luka and Tatum from their age 25-30 seasons would run the league, this would be on par with LeBron and Wade or Steph and KD teaming up, but it would be done via trade.
Luka might be the only player Id be willing to break up the Jays duo for. I know Luka and KP have a bad track record, but in a new system, a more steady franchise, i feel like Boston could make that work. And it’s the best deal for both teams.
Another thing I forgot to mention, brown and Kyrie remain close friends from their time in Boston. If you’re Dallas, you’re talking yourself into a brown/Kyrie duo giving you 50-60 ppg and keeping you in the playoff hunt. You might even lean into the idea that brown is the best readymade star they can add from any team willing to trade a star, and that when finally own his own roster as the Batman he flourishes. Idk, I think this could really work.
There will always be reasons to *not* do it, but you have to outweigh the pros and cons for each team. Dallas could let Luka walk for nothing or wait too long and get a player way worse than brown. Boston might get too sentimental and risk losing out on the best duo/team of its generation. They could be the new warriors or bulls, where Tatum falls more into that pippen role and they rattle off 3 or more titles over the next 5 years.
OKC would be a bad fit. Having 2 ball dominant guards playing with each other will never work. Okc should look at adding depth since they already have their main guy SGA 2nd guy Chet and 3rd guy Jalen Williams.

TO assemble a Dynastic Team: You can't just put together Allstars, you must also look at players personalities and egos. A team with great chemistry, great coach, each player knowing their role and hierarchy, but few Allstar/All NBA player WILL beat a star studded team with bad to ok chemistry, similar ego issues, and a less capable coach.
Keep in mind that the skill gap btw players in today's NBA is getting smaller compared to the past.

Spurs and thunder have the same exact amount of draft picks now til 2030 with 35 total picks. The spurs have 15 1st rounders and the thunder have 16 first rounders and although the thunder have a better contending team right now, the spurs are the only team that can offer the most money for any player in the market over every other team out there. Lets not mention the thunder have no history or knowledge of winning championships meanwhile the spurs are well known for their championship culture especially with coach pop still around which players like luka and wemby want and need.

The Celtics went from 29 wins and missing the playoffs to 61 games and conference final by adding Bird.
The Spurs went from 20 wins to 56 wins by adding Duncan. To be fair, David Robinson was injured when they won 20 games, but there is no denying TD's impact was instant.
I'm a Spurs fan, and I'm normally not enamored of the blockbuster trade where one team mortgages its future for a star. I'm old enough to remember the Herschel Walker trade the Cowboys made in the '80s. These trades rarely work out (see Murray, DeJonte) for the team that trades all their draft picks.
However, I'd be willing to watch the Spurs give up A LOT to pair Luka and Wemby.

Imagine if the Mavs kept Brunson and still signed Kyrie. They could have traded Kyrie to LA for AD, whose off-ball game is perfect with Luka and fills the Mavs’ big man hole.
I think the knicks coupd have a shot, they got the picks, they can potentially trade Randle, Hartenstein (sign and trade),. Include a Mcbride or even Divo in a package. Knicks are deep, they got Brunson that might entice Luka tp team up again with him.

When we talk about players requesting a trade or moving to a different team once their contract is up, I would say it is different for foreign players. Especially foreign players that are the key component to a roster. I think you have to look at values embraced from where these players come from. I say all that to say this, there is a low probability Luka will request to be traded because that part of the world, the Balkans, they are not raised on individualism like they are in the US. He will likely think of the team before he thinks of himself. I think of players like Joker and Giannis and I can’t think of them ever talking about leaving their teams. Frustrated at times, sure. But leaving, they have loyalty.. maybe even to a fault.
Mavs in the playoffs, did we learn nothing last year… Miami making it into the finals, the Lakers making it into the WCF. I wouldn’t be speaking so sure of myself. This is sports and especially the playoffs, anything can happen. Even the previous season when the Mavs made the WCF, pretty much everyone doubted them.
Regarding salary/former players… Its a team sport. You don’t need super star roster to go far. Example, Miami making it to the finals even after all the injuries they took along the season. This is still a game of strategy. Talent is good but I think of the 21-22 Nets, remember all the hype surrounding them because of the “super star”. They got sweep the first round. Talent is good but teamwork and strategy will win you games, look at the chemistry and offense/defense ran by the Nuggets. Pretty much only the local fan base was saying they were good and news heads kept counting them out every round. Once they provide themselves on the biggest stage this game has to offer, the opinions of most have shifted to calling them super stars and they are but they work so much better because of teamwork/chemistry. Another team that comes to mind is the past Spurs teams.
I don’t see Luka asking for a trade for winning a championship. This goes back to my loyalty comment. He also has a former Mavs player mentoring him who stayed with one organization his entire career. It is always possible for a trade to happen. Hell, who knows? Maybe after this season he just ups and retires from the NBA completely to go do whatever he wants to do. That is possible too. I just think the odds are low (~20%) of him asking for a trade.

OKC have so many picks that they can afford to overpay for guaranteed success. They could give the Mavs a ton of picks, spend another few firsts to get elite role players on good contracts, and still have enough picks left for future flexibility. They could even overpay with like 12 picks to keep JDub alongside Shai-Luka-Chet if it weren't for the salary cap but JDub is so good he'll command big money. Elite role players like the Josh Hart, Alex Caruso, Nic Claxton, Larry Nance Jr, Dario Saric, Bogdan Bogdanovic etc could be 1 max 2 firsts each and OKC could get multiple of those and still have picks left

SGA and Luka are both ball dominant guard it could be an akward fit similar to Russel Westbrook and Harden in Huston. The talent would be insane but OKC shouldn't give up all of there assets to do that. They should focus on adding depth and experience.
@@emilfrederiksen.1622Russ and Harden were actually good, I still believe we saw the best several month stretch of Russ’ career there - Harden was struggling (compared to normal), and Russ was running the team putting up big numbers on 50+% shooting. Harden and CP3 worked really well too. If you have the pieces around guys who are ball dominant but also great playmakers, it works imo
