If I ever become a filmmaker I'm going to make a tragic epic about a Soviet soldier in Afghanistan and his experience after the war and fall of the USSR. It's such a tragic and horrific war with a million great stories that have unfortunately been lost to the sands of time in the west.

i heard interview of some soldeirs about why that was so. Literally one said this way: we unloaded from helicopter and moved with 30-40 kilogramms backpacks 2++ days, temperature was 40 degrees C. When we arrived to mountains we were exhaused 0% energy inside bodies... then commander said .. allright and now most difficult part - to climb and move next days climbing ... naaah, no way, said soldier in 2019. It was incredible how he got strenght to do that ..and he could not ever reapeat that with no energy inside and no water .. then they arrived to target position and got fight there and then they had to retreat back carring wounded... and main words were: and I walked down the mountain and I was in mad state ... I almost could not make a step forward .. was too exhausted and I saw mini-mine .. and I thought that time: oh god here it is! there lies my end of torment, maybe i step on it, maybe my leg would be half cut but my commrades will carry me (c). He took a pause and added: you can feel now what kind of psychological and physical stress load was there ... when you move and hot mad brain automatically finds the way how to end this sh*t fastest way.

USSR on their own has disappeared. So the Soviet people themselves wanted. This is not a U.S. victory. The new Russia had many hopes for the United States. Instead, the United States supported separatism in the Caucasus, in Chechnya. They raised the Georgian army that attacked Russian peacekeepers in South Ossetia. Train the Ukrainian army fighting with Russian rebels in the Donbass. The US is deploying missiles right at Russia's borders in Romania and Poland. Obama illegally confiscated Russian diplomatic property two weeks before the end of the term. Russia is being sanctioned for a false case of election interference. Sanctions have not yet been lifted.

@@koustubhkhamparia993 The Afghanistan train wreck began in the mid-70s when the moderate Muslim Afghan king was overthrown in 1973 by his cousin who established a republic. The republic was overthrown by the socialists Sauer revolution, leading to an eventual communist takeover. The Soviets overplayed their hand and ended up with their puppet nascent communist leader accidently killed by Spetsnaz commandoes. Thus, the days of a moderate, independent Afghanistan with a King and a parliament were over thanks to Soviet meddling. As Pakistan lay on the Soviet march from Kabul to a potential warm water port on the Arabian Sea, they begged their American ally to help. Pakistan ISI also relied on Saudi Arabian support in the Afghan refugee camps created by the communist coup and subsequent Soviet invasion. The Soviet Union started this train wreck. The Americans, for all our many flaws, have put the Afghans back on a path toward the democratic ideals of 1973. In fact, in 2007, the surviving king, who resides in Italy, was declared "Father of the Nation." The Taliban emerged from the Pakistan camps in the 1990s and were a purely Saudi Arabian product, not a US one. But you can believe what you want, I suppose. Facts are stubborn things, as Stalin was purported to say.

I am so sorry to hear of your family's loss. My oldest son was 7 years old when 9-11 happened. Now he is a 26 year old Army Captain and an Afghan War Vet. The wars in Afghanistan have been with our two peoples for two long. There is much blame to be laid at the feet of both Soviet and American political leaders. But it's the patriots who end up suffering, dying or being scarred by the wars of our political masters. Ultimately, Russia and the USA should have been allies against Islamic fanaticism long ago, but we each stubbornly pursued our own global-power paths. Sadly. God bless you.

Those pictures and videos make me feel like I'm empty inside, I don't know why, maybe because I want to be there. I have just a weird feeling in my body that I want to be there forever. Eastern and middle eastern countries have something different. I feel it. They are underrated, people think nowadays that they are depressing, however every sunrise I see as I'm walking next to these "depressing" buildings, my hope for better next days is stronger and stronger. @@543soldierThe Soviet-Afghan war was as much a local conflict as other low-intensity fighting that occurred in the world after world war II. This war was similar to what is happening on the borders of Israel and Palestine. Armed to the teeth army with tanks, guns and helicopters chasing through the mountains and deserts of different rebels. And those hide and commit sabotage. That's the whole war. The army periodically incurs losses. But to call such a war a hell is a very big exaggeration. World war II was hell, and this is just a dangerous adventure.

I don't feel bad for USSR collapse. I feel bad for army that was fucked up in 90's by mindless and corrupted goverment of that time. So many perspective war technologies of soviets has been lost and this is really sad. USSR was not the country with the good economics and the life conditions (especially in the 80's) but it had the powerful army which could potentially fucked up all of Europe in a matter of weeks. And now seeing how NATO approaches closer and closer to the former USSR centre is scary.
I've never been in those times. I was born in '00s and for me USSR looks like a paradise. People with motivation to live, study, serve their country for the good of working class and humanity at all. And now we have young people with zero knowing of what they wanna do in their life.
