Doctor Boster, thank you for this video. I would like to share, that my experience with “anxiety” presented itself strongly at the beginning of my problems with MS. I noticed I had an intense feeling of nervousness deep in my core: like down the center of my body. I went to my family doctor and explained this intense feeling that I felt physically as though I had a final exam or some other kind of make-or-break test, that consumes ones thoughts and you can literally feel the tension in your body. I also added that if I wanted to let myself relax on a table, I felt as though my entire body would just begin to tremble. The notes I read from my medical report just relayed the event as a psychological event. And I realize, the language I used to explain the sensation may add to that, because most anxiety is thought of as a creation of your thoughts, or from the mind per se. Then I came across this video by Molly Burke. She doesn’t have MS, but I could relate to her initial experience with her neurological infant episode. In her video, Living with Retinitis Pigmentosa: My RP Experience - Molly Burke. Molly shared that her shaking alarmed her aunt who was a nurse. That led to a pediatric neurology appointment. Now, she wasn’t diagnosed with MS, but treated for something else. This was the beginning of her medical challenges which eventually led to Retinitis Pigmentosa. Now as she explained, when there is something wrong in your brain that can cause your body to shake, it comes from the brain. Something is wrong. I encourage everyone to watch her video because anxiety physically playing out in this manner is not because one feels sad or depressed, she was a baby. I felt exactly like this and I told my doctor, I don’t have any problems that are lingering in my mind. I don’t have any financial challenges that are keeping me awake. Has anyone else felt this kind of physical sensation of wanting to shake or tremble? Does anyone else notice a deep physical tremble down their inner core before an exacerbation of MS? Once I was treated with steroids, my body calmed down. In the first few years of dealing with my MS, I knew an exacerbation was coming on when that deep tremble would present itself. As a doctor, I wouldn’t know how one would go about distinguishing between something that is “mentally worrisome,” or is a “deep physical sensation” that a patient wants to play out or feels as I did. I bring up this point for attention because I know a medical report that explains a visit in phycological friendly terms may not help a patient receive the medical attention that there is some physical problem going on in the brain. Thank you for your attention. I wish all of with MS, improved health.

Dr. Boster, thank so very much for telling us that you struggle with depression and are doing well with the treatment. I've been listening to your videos for a while now and I have MS since 2017 although I'm started probably a decade sooner than that. I'm on mavenclad and was on tsyabri for several years. I have a PhD in psychology and used to be an active psychologist for decades. I just wanted to say thank you very much...❤ Dr Eric Geffner, Ph.D.

Regarding your video about depression and anxiety and the fact that you've mentioned balancing hormones as being important in MS, anxiety is one of the symptoms of imbalanced estrogen in women. I experienced this myself and, not normally plagued by anxiety, I found it to be a terrible feeling. Getting balanced on HRT was the solution and all of the anxiety disappeared.

Wonder how many out there use THC either smoked or in in edible form. My balance is slightly effected but on a Friday night with friends and a couple cold beers that’s when I’m most relaxed. I find during the week trying to keep preoccupied is the only way to get my mind off this damned disease.
Remember you’re not alone in this fight. 🙏

I find poor sleep negatively affects my MS and mood so I do everything I can to try and maximise sleep and minimise stress. Routine, exercise, talking to a close friend (I talk to Jesus) and reading scripture really, really help me a lot. Also, watching your videos help explain why I feel so bad at times and that it’s not all my fault. You’re doing great job Dr B, thanks a lot!

Hi, Dr. Boster. I've tried every drug you've mentioned except the hydroxizine. Everything makes me feel really fuzzy, dizzy, and highly impaired. Even 5 mg. of Buspar. Psychiatrists don't know what to do with me. Thank you for the other suggestions, though. You've helped me so much. It's so good to understand what's going on with our MS. You have a real gift for explaining things in a way that can easily be understood. Keep up the good work.

You are amazing! I have suffered from depression on and off since I was a child. I have learned not to ever mention it because I also have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and if my pain medication is taken away, I cannot live with the pain. Currently, by the grace of God, I am not depressed. I spend a lot of time outside working in the yard. I think the exercise and sun have really helped me a lot.

My biggest stressor is my lack of enough finances to live on after paying my bills! Its amazing how the stress is less when I have extra money to buy groceries! I went on complete disability in my thirties with 2 daughters and a recent divorce. Now , I am 70 and living on social security only. Instead of being depressed, I lean on my faith as a Christian to get thru the valleys . There is always someone who needs help and are worse off than you are, so be a giver if it is only just sitting and listening to a person who needs some encouragement.Praise and pray! If you believe in God let Him know you are angry about your life and give him thanks for helping you thru.

Cymbalta is the one I was just recently changed to in order to help with depression and the constant headaches I have. It has been helping a little bit with muscle pain. But the anxiety and panic attacks are still out of control. It is really hard to get the right combination of medicines - but my neurologist and psychiatrist are finally working together to help me. My year anniversary of official diagnosis is coming up in July - and it has been a wild journey. Your channel was one of the first ones I found. Thank you for all of the information!!! You are an amazing doctor!

Dr B, thank you for being so candid and for addressing this really important subject. I'm finally trying to come out of denial about my diagnosis and the more I do, the more I'm facing absolutely debilitating depression. I've been treated for anxiety since childhood and depression since my teen years and now, in my 50s, I have MS and have recognized that I also have been living with ADHD all my life. I'm trying to keep on top of polypharmacy but I'm also concluding that my depression is treatment resistant and things are really hard right now. Your video was perfectly timed to remind me that you care about all of us and I really needed that boost. Thank you. 🧡🧡🧡🧡

Ive been diagnosed with a TBI and anxiety. In the process of MS diagnosis, have only had a CT scan so far and two new meds, metoprolol succinate ER and lamotrigine
My heart is being flooded with adrenaline for 30 some years now and am finally going for help becaus, i lose peripheral vision, i get seizures in my eye balls and heart and i get facial shocks, all muscles are stiff to where i cant move. I have seizures in my sleep. The back of my head goes numb, burns and itches, my left arm tightens up to be bwnt and my foot drags on attacks. My left arm and leg go fuzzy and ache beyond what i can handle, im slow to process and when i try to think out of no where ill get what i call a mind blocker. It just goes blank. . And the mood swings before i was put on metoprolol... not all symptoms here but theres some. Am also on Lexapro.
I feel so alone. Ive dealt with this by myself since i was a kid. Drs never scanned my head.

Georgia, have you gone to a new Neurologist? I see you have a traumatic brain injury, but have you visited with an MS Neurologist? If not, I recommend you do. If you don’t like the doctor you currently have, go to another. Some doctors aren’t really good at dealing with alarming symptoms and follow a wait-and-see protocol. No matter how long it takes for the next opening on a new doctor’s schedule, just make the appointment and go. Your symptoms I can relate to. I went for my first “second opinion” after I moved to a new state. I got my referral from my old neurologist and was so disappointed the new doctor wouldn’t accept my new insurance. I made the appointment anyway and wax so happy I did. I walked away with an actual report for recommendations for medication, phycological attention, blood work, diet plan, and physical activity. I told the doctor the visit was only for a 2nd opinion. She told me that follow-up visit by telemedicine 15 or 30 minutes were available with the Nurse Practitioner. So inquire if that’s an option and how much will it cost? Will your insurance carrier cover the visit? You should find out. After the visit I told myself to visit and just pay for the once a year visit so that another doctor can actually evaluate me I person. The recommendations she gave me for bloodwork were actually followed by the other neurology office I went to for treatment. So there are options out there. I hope you find the treatment to help get your symptoms under control.☺️

Every time I see my neuro, I’m given the depression risk analysis questionnaire. Because I have dysthymia (and C-PTSD) from childhood abuse, the result is always bleak. Has MS made it worse? Probably. I have multiple chronic illnesses that negatively impact my life and can cause depression on their own. It doesn’t make sense to try to figure out how much of the depression is caused by each issue. It seems like a waste of time and energy. I’ll keep treating it and watching to make sure it doesn’t get dangerous. If you have tried talk therapy and didn’t find it helpful, you are not alone. I find daily journaling and self-compassion work helpful. If traditional methods don’t work for you, you may find that something like eliminating sugar as Dr. Boster suggested, meditation, or a particular type of exercise (e.g., T’ai Chi) effective. Not all conventional wisdom applies to everyone. Keep trying, and you’ll find something that helps.

Thanks for the information. One thing I always wonder is - how long do I take these medications? I’m on two (bupropion and Effexor) and have been taking them for nearly 20 years. Should it be a goal to reduce that, or is it likely that my brain needs these meds forever? If forever - does that matter?
