Dude, we are longing and patiently awaking the Arteon's arrival in the States. I really appreciate watching videos about this car...I want to see it in real life as it may be my next new ride. Never owned an European car and wondered about reliability and longevity. Heard for years about the expensive maintenance schedule for Euro cars compared to Japanese cars, so I'm hoping for an honest objective opinion.

Michael J well get ready because supposedly the RLine trim won’t be coming to the states, only the elegant trim. Still a 2.0T though, just a less sporty trim. I’m also looking to acquire, BUT I’m only interested in the RLine not the regular. I’m pretty bummed out about it
Oh, no! I'm with you, RLine only, the wheels and the added black accents adds a special kind of sexy to the car. That's crap! Clearly, VW has the Euro version RLine, but only plans to launch the elegant trim initially to the US market, burns my ass!!!
Well, I will strike out this car for now as my future whip. I will not compromise when it comes to my car. It's an extension of my person. Thx Josh for the heads up. U r The Dude!

Chatta290, thanks for responding? Plz don’t take this offensively, but there are many Americans that do drive a lot because the country is quite expansive and many miles to work, school, store. I drive my car to enjoy the car. It’s meant to be driven and I enjoy the ride.
I do take care of my car but historically the ridiculous maintenance costs usually aren’t powertrain related but more electrical malfunctions that give me pause. Just curious if over engineering creates a costly issue.
Michael J I’m referring to those who drive the car into the hundreds of thousands of miles and expect the car to be trouble free. Mainly because Europe doesn’t demand such a product. Are you keeping it for life or what? We personally get cars brand new and keep them in warranty so only servicing ones and new front tyres is needed but out of warranty yes it can be costly as the Germans redesign and do things differently so there are mainly only genuine parts available. I know the costs of some things so I know if some things gs were to go wrong it could cost a fortune but it depends on how much you drive. If you do 20,000 Miles a year (quite a lot really) and only keep the car for a few years I don’t see any issues arising. Parking sensors themselves failing can cost £300 with one faulty one. But don’t go thinking it’s like a Toyota as it’s not. I would personally suggest getting a new car every few years or buy one used then sell if after a few years for less depreciation. Here german cars are best for resale values but in the us im not too sure plus the cars made in the us or Mexico or wherever usually aren’t as good as European specs cars unless they are made in Germany so take that into consideration also.
I fell in love with this car, the looks are miraculous, the engine is not bad also ( I have 280 hp version), the steering could be a little bit more feedback oriented. Good review, liked it, good work :]
How do you find the throttle response of the car in Normal and Comfort mode? Is it responsive and immediate enough?
@@royalprince5878 Since I did a ecu flash, so 360 hp, it's been better. It's comfortable and smooth when you put your foot half way and fast when you want it to. There is consiredable lag with dsg when you put throttle all the way in, it drops 2-3 gears, so like 3 seconds delay. I would say it is responsive if you get used to it, immiediate, not so much. If you are considering the new Arteon R I wouldn't bother, 320hp with the same engine (golf r engine) but different ecu flash. Just get normal 280 hp and do a flash, you can go easly to 380 hp without paying attention to relabillity.

Very well done Josip, after listening to your evaluation I'm much more likely to place the Arteon at the top of my list when I buy a new car this Spring. I'm glad that the display is integrated into the instrument cluster rather than being tacked on like a tablet. Also I agree that the rear lights of the Arteon are far superior in appearance and design to those of the Passat CC as you show at time 21:28. (Pete)

At 2:20 actually 34 degrees in Celsius is about 93 degrees in Fahrenheit. It said 71 on the screen, way off. I hope your indicated horsepower (190) isn't off also. Here in the US, the R line will have 268 HP. I think it has about 12 HP more in Germany.
HdentalP this is a Diesel engine, HP is correct. Don’t know about temperature I used some web page conversation maybe it was wrong.

R-Line is available, at least I saw some on UA-cam. Some interior things are different than European model. European is better.

Hello, great video.I am thinking to buy Arteon 2018 model. Which engine is best the onw with 190hp or 240hp? And is the car comfortobal and relaible? Is it good for long roads? What about DSG gearbox does it makes problems? I had a gold 6 1.6tdi and its dsg made too much problems. And which one is better the arteon 2018 model or passat 2018 model? Thank you.
brian hilmiu in general more power is better, VW cars are usually stiff rather than comfortable. You should check some VW forums to see if and what common problems Arteon had. I prefer Arteon is more premium, but if you’re really looking into Arteon I would recommend to look at Audi A5 Sportback. It’s more quality made and premium.
Why u compare audi a5 to arteon? Arteon you have to compare with larger cars mate a7 or a6
I like the overall design. Aesthetically it looks similar to an A7. As a satisfied GLI owner I'm not quite ready to swap keys when they start showing up in American showrooms. Unfortunately compared to my GLI the car seems underpowered. Power to weight ratio isn't impressive. I'll wait for a mid cycle refresh or if and when VW decides to offer an optional V6 power plant..
Nelson Vanvickle in US Arteon should come with more power under hood.
What is the BHP 240 180 ?
Is the same as the VW Passat inside? I thought the Arteon is wider than the Passat ....the same as the Passat is wider than the Golf.

Test one was 190HP, yellow one in salon 240 HP. I review and test cars. Couldn’t afford one. Even if I had money I would rather get Tesla Model 3 better value for money.

nitrowad zlatni je imao 240, crni 190, možda sam pogriješio kasnije. Francuze nisam testirao na žalost pa ne mogu usporediti. Vozio sam kratko samo novi 508 tu negdje isti osječaj. Stim da svaki ima neke sitnice bolje napravljene. Interijer je daleko zanimljiviji ali malo prostora da je za razliku od Arteona.
So, we are the same height. Do you think it would be a good idea to get this car at our height or look for something different?
If you are young shouldn’t be a problem. I advise you to try it first.

R-Line or Elegance has nothing to do with the motor. So you won’t get more horsepower with the R-Line. Just a different look.

Really looks best in the yellow-gold-sputum-vomit color. The wheels looked terrible on the black car. Premium cars should be elegant and not ostentatious. Too bad they failed to make it fun to drive. Would have been a home run (or for EU residents a match winning goal in football/soccer) - It is what SAAB should have built but never did - a turbo 4 door hatchback with all wheel drive (instead of a better 9000 fastback they lost the hatch and built the 9-5 (a 4 cylinder 4 door with a trunk/boot just like a GM Buick). Always felt the original class hatchback turbo SAABs and upper end VW models were targeting the same crowd of people who like turbos and small engine performance models but don't like having the same car as everyone else. Road Noise sounds pretty bad unless you have the windows down??
Metaphorically, the Arteon reminds of a very beautiful show dog like an American Akita or Chow Chow. Simply rock star celebrity looks but the downside is that behavior out on the road is not as precise, sporty and controlled as other what some other more boring looking dogs offer. So it is a breed for people who value looks over performance.
For someone who likes style, the car and utlity, the car is rewarding. However, like the not extinct SAAB 9-5, the performance is just subpar compared to other cars in the class. Here is the USA, VW is not even going to offer the 7 speed DSG which is a deal killer since a 8 speed auto without the DSG will simply rob the car of any torque from a stop and with a two liter turbo, without torque down low, there is no point to the engine as it might as well be another normally aspirated Toyota Camry engine. Of course VW won't ship the Sirocco R Line to the States either and our POTUS and his tariffs will no doubt make the care a failure due to price.
R F it’s a shame we don’t have the Sorocco 😔 and I agree. The 2 liter without the DSG... don’t even know why that’s an option. It’s a shame that the US won’t be getting the RLine trim.
