Note: For those unfamiliar with how this channel operates and are confused about the lack of references to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, this is the 501st's pre-TCW history. As many are aware, the 2008 Clone Wars series has massive difficulty fitting into the continuity of the Expanded Universe timeline so instead of trying to make up unofficial and/or nonsensical explanations on how events fit in like so many others including Wookieepedia and even official source books do, I just ignore TCW and it's direct tie-in material altogether. In most cases, I will include many post TCW sources that contain a few references to the show (for completionism's sake) and just retcon it out. This, I find is far easier than performing mental gymnastics to extrapolate nonsensical info to make things fit with the rest of the Expanded Universe and in some cases, being forced to omit stories that many enjoyed far more than even the best story arcs in TCW. The goal of Manda-LORE is and has always has been to preserve and present the Expanded Universe timeline at it's apex (which was about 2007-2008-ish plus added post TCW stuff for completionism's sake) and demonstrate to the uninitiated that the EU wasn't always a convoluted mess of contradictions that TCW left it before It's decanonization, and also to bring back stories and characters that didn't deserve to be retconned and/or overwritten by TCW.
So most of their feats were as imperials than as Republic soldiers, an interesting difference between their old story and new one. Now their more a symbol of the od republic rather a symbol of Vader's wrath.

It was cool in the death star novel they mentioned the battlefront 2 campaign. I remember how much of a pain in the ass yavin 4 was in that game.
Just got done leading the 501st in Republic at War lol so this is a nice coincidence.
It is very funny that the 501st would end up aiding Luke and Mara in recovering the Outbound Flight's remains. It's funny because they once were under the command of Luke's father, and by that point the probably already knew Luke's connection to Vader as that was probably galactic wide knowledge.

0:38 I've found that there's been some mix-ups concerning the origins of the 501st Legion. In the Classic Battlefront II campaign, they were part of the original Clone Army that was made on Kamino and then fought at Geonosis and continued to fight throughout the Clone Wars. However, in the Republic Commando novels by Karen Traviss ( _Order_ _66_ , I believe) the 501st were part of the recent Spaarti clones that Palpatine had secretly made for Coruscant's defense during the Battle of Coruscant and would remain there to be used for Operation Knightfall. I'd interested to hear how you combine the two. *Watches* *till* *2:18* So, you combined the two origins by interpreting that only part of the 501st had been grown on Kamino while the rest of them were grown on Sentax II, with detachments being sent through the later parts of the war. Not too far from my own interpretations.
Yep, so the whole reasoning behind the Clone Labs on Centax II is to end the war quicker because the rate of clones coming out of Kamnio was much slower. Granted the Kamino clones were higher quality. The Narrator of the 501st Journal we see in Battlefront II is a first gen Kamino clone presumably who was at Geonosis before the Legion's formation. He was then lumped in with other Kamino clones and Centax II clones to the 501st circa 20BBY give or take.
@@Manda-LORE I thought Anakin got command over the 501st shortly after his knighthood even in pre TCW Legends.
@@Jedi_Spartan I dont recall reading any books or comics where he commands the 501st before ROTs. Though he was a knight by that point and held a general's rank, he preferred to tag along with Obi-wan and the 212th

@@Manda-LORE that's the thing, due to TCW following the Jedi temple march in ROTS the 501st is rather synonymous with Anakin, and it's kinda hard for me to imagine Anakin without them, in a way the 501st teamed with Anakin/Vader is a sort of iconic sight in star wars.

Did the 501st ever stop their accelerated ageing? I feel like the empire would have to continually make use of them. otherwise they wouldn't have lived that long. Plus their was ex commandos, arc troopers, nulls who succeeded in that regard clan skirata. The rest of the gar surviving regular, jango, kamino clones I'm guessing both got kicked out because they where too old. And some got augmented through the dark trooper program.
The only clones to my knowledge that received a cure for accelerated aging were the nulls and omega squad (possibly sans Darman, we never find out if he makes it to Mandalore).
They most likley just kept breeding fett clones for the 501st until the early Galactic Civil War
@@Manda-LORE yeah that makes sense. It's kind of a horrible fate for those clones. Well it's a sith running the show so everything's disposable if its no longer useful. Or actively impedes them.
If you read Legacy of the Force you find out the fates of some of them i think unless im mistaken. Though reading that series without having read New Jedi Order will leave you pretty Confused
@@magnenoalex2 I've read njo, and legacy of the force. Granted I read lotf completely out of order. At some point I need to go in chronological order. Njo was far superior to lotf. I remember at least one of those commandos or arc trooper solved that issue. I'm guessing they would have gone more in depth with that plot had traviss finished her imperial commandos series. But she had a falling out because of Filliony. Yeah I know I can't spell. I've read over 40 novels in the past three months. Theirs very few moments where I'm not preoccupied with some kind of literature. Especially a book series I haven't read in two years I am not going to remember every single tiny detail. The basic out line of the plot and key events is what I recall.

I get it for the game but realistically Kashyyyk, Utapau, and Knightfall all happen at the same time so how the 501st can be in 3 places at once in full force is insanely impossible.
They were detachments, and not all those battles happened at the same time. Also, different battles took longer than others to resolve. The Battle of Mygeeto was 2 years long, for instance.

Nothing I read suggested the 501st was on Bespin, they weren't on Endor either. It was most likley another stormtrooper division that accompanied Vader on Bespin. That would explain their poor marksmanship at least

I really like how the Republic took a long time to actually get competent in the Clone Wars. Considering the Jedi had no military training, and that most of the high command weren’t anticipating all-out war so soon, it comes across as more realistic.
Considering how much better the Clones are than the Droids, it makes sense that they were initially held back by poor organisation, tactics, and strategy. Something TCW rarely covers.

@Manda-LORE I can't help but think of one of your Clone Wars EU vs Disney videos, where you made the case that regular clones were designed to be less independent and that only commandos and ARCs were really capable of independent thought, as opposed to what TCW did. All I could think was "Did you forget about Corr?" I mean, TCW's approach of "all clones are individuals with names and unique identities and personalities" was already set up in the Republic Commando books. And a key example of this is Corr. He was a regular clone trooper who was given cross-training after the war began, and he also deserted. Heck, he even proposed subjecting Palpatine to Order 65 in casual conversation. The books also suggest that the clones had to hide their personalities (Or else be subjected to "reconditioning") and that the Kaminoans could only create a predisposition for behavioral traits.
There are also other instances such as the fact that all 2nd and 3rd gen clones are described as having names in Labyrinth of Evil. The 501st Journal, which dives into a 501st Trooper's thoughts on the end of the war, the guilt he felt about carrying out Order 66, etc.
So, the original "clones are meat droids" idea was pretty much already retconned. With the exception of the inhibitor chips, I don't see a lot of differences between the EU clones and TCW.
Corr was a special case as he was given cross training by some very vocal and opinionated commandos and ARC Troopers (other clones were cross trained too as explained in my "who trained the clone commandos" video). When you start hanging round people higher up the food chain, you start to adopt their traits as you get comfortable and even so, it took him a bit to get acclimated. If Corr had remained at his desk job or even if he didnt get his hands blown off and continued serving on the front lines, he probably wouldnt have met the Nulls, Omega squad and Kal and wouldn't have deserted the GAR for Kyrimurut. Even Omega squad themselves dont really start thinking about their place in the universe until the second half of the 2nd book. If you recall Darman's conversation with Etain in Hard Contact, she asks him what he would like to do if he wasnt in the GAR and he replies that a soldiers life is all he knows and his life expectancy isnt long anyways; he knew his lot in life was to serve, fight and die for the republic and he was comfortable with that thought at the time in his story. In those same novels, as with the rest of the clone wars novels that were published in that time period, its reinforced that the ARCs have the highest level of independence (being basically 100% jango and trained by him) followed by Commandos, then regular troops.
Does this mean they have no independent thought whatseover? Of course not however each class of clone (except for ARCs) have varying degrees of conditioning and gene manipulation which doesn't root out independent thought entirely, it just makes it highly unlikely for the grunt level clones to commit desertion, treason, or refuse to comply with orders. As I explained here in this video, the 501st had "private traitorous thoughts" but didn't act on them due to their intense conditioning. Which is consistent with everything else I've read.
The problem with TCW as I explained in the videos on my Captain Fordo channel, is that they take this concept too far when it applies to the regular grunt troopers who were the least likley to desert, commit treason, or refuse orders and I argued that it would make far more sense to have Commandos and ARCs committing these acts rather than the standard clone troopers they showed as it would have been more consistent with the established lore at the time. I get why they did it for the story's sake but it contradicts AOTC and having them be ARCs or RCs would have gottrn around this.
Others have argued that the Kaminoans were just lying completely about the genetic tampering to make the clones more compliant, however they would have no need to lie to Obi-wan if the order for the army was already placed. That tells us that the army was paid for in full or at least a heafty down deposit was put down, otherwise why would they undertake such a massive project and work with numerous other contractors and subcontractors (Kuat Drive Yards and Rothana Heavy Engineering) if there was no assurance that the Republic wouldnt skip out on the bill? I think Darth Plagueis may have already paid for the army (don't quote me on that, I need to re-read the novel).
@@Manda-LORE Well, why wouldn't serving under Anakin Skywalker, of all people, produce a similar effect in his troopers? I mean, if your commanding officer is a way to quickly promoted knight who always breaks the rules, that'll probably rub off on you.
As for characters like Slick and Cut Lawquane, we only meet Slick when he turns traitor. All prior events of his life are unknown, we don't know what made him choose to rebel (no one else in the episode even considers if there's any truth to his argument). As for Cut, we never learn what class of clone he was. I mean, "Everyone I ever cared about, my team, was gone" sounds more akin to a commando than a regular trooper.
Just my two cents as a fan of both the EU and Disney canon. (And yes, I agree that TCW doesn't work in legends.)
@Viktor Själander Look at Levet, also from the Republic Commando books. After visiting Quilurra, he wanted to become a farmer when the war ended.

The novels themselves state that, well, Kaminoans simply didn't understand human neurology as well as they believed they did. Every clone in those novels has a name, they have a culture, ideas. Heck, even Spaarti grown clones have names, like Commando Rede.
The "clones are mindless drones" thing was pretty much retconned by those novels.

You should check out my more recent videos made in the past year and a half. A new, higher quality voice filter is used for the brief intro and outro with silky smooth, unfiltered narration for a majority of the videos. Mini Tadd dissappears after the intro for a more unobstructed viewing experience too.

In old eu wasn’t there clone who tried to be friends with Vader I watched the video from lore master channel
Yep, that would be Hock, he was left behind by a jedi he saved and he pretty much despised them for the rest of his life, and he ended up rejoining the empire and grew to respect vader because vader pretty much hated jedi like him. so hock swore to be vaders best commander. But that ended when vader slaughtered a bunch of civilians infront of hock which caused hock to retire early because it traumatized him to the point where he never talks about it, But he did end up getting married to women he fell in love with so at least he got somewhat of a happy ending
