Great advice! I’m going to get a clicker. I have a Senegal and you have inspired me to work on improving her diet and to spend more time with her.

Thanks for the tips! I have a quaker and he's 5 months old. Took a week for him to adjust but now he's bonding really well and has already learned some tricks! Quick question for you though.. How often do you take Elfie to the vet for a check-up? Do you do any checkups at home?

Usually go 1x/year. I do monitor him everyday if something is out of the ordinary I’ll look into it further. One time he was regurgitating clear fluid and was not able to hold good down so went straight to the vet and he had a tummy infection. Was better by the next day with some meds 🏥 🦜

My Senegal's behaviour is so different from yours!
    The Bad:
-He shoulder rushes and if I put my thumb up he'll just bite it.
-If he is on my shoulder and I ignore him, say I ammon my computer, he will attack the frame of my glasses or worse bite my ear!
    The good:
-When I give him plenty of attention he is happy and loves head scratches!
    - Not difficult try healthy foods.
    The Sad and Strange:
-He is 15 years old, brought him to the vet and he was 170 grams, about 20 grams overweight. Now he is 150g
    -I am his 3rd caretaker
    -His wings were always clipped
    -Was mostly in his cage
    - Was afraid of every surface and object
-Even though he can now fly, he likes when I place him and remove him from my tree in the yard and is even visited by the same bluejay every day and is not afraid and does not fly off.
-I take him for walks on my shoulder in the woods without a harness.
-He only flies for two reasons, to get on my shoulder or if something startles him.
-I stopped taking him on my shoulder to get mail on my community mailbox because a cyclist startled him one day and flew after him for 600 yards! I was terrified and impressed at the same time!
-He constantly craves for my attention
-He prefers natural branches as foot toys as opposed to manufactured wooden toys.
-Knows 10 words with Come being his all-time favorite since he always wants my attention.

@@parrotsco.3224 Yes, he is a keeper, I would not want the poor guy to have another caretaker..I will try other methods to stop the shoulder rushing and I will slowly harness train him over the winter since it's only a matter of time that he builds more confidence in flying!

My parrot is very acustomed to my presence, lets me to pet it, comes out of the cage and sits on my shoulder. But it is terrified of touching the finger with it's paw (he can touch it with ONE paw when it helps to reach the treat, but that's all). I'm trying to change its opinion for months with treats of all sorts and it's not working. Can you advise something in this situation?

What amount do you feed your parrot in each sitting? For instance, "in the morning I feed X amount and in the afternoon I feed X".

It depends on the parrot and weight range, training motivation etc. It will vary
