But the got cough by a Blizzard or other intensive weather incident. they tryed to get cover in this dipp by the lake from the harsh wind but freezed to death. or maybe they drowned in the lake wiche fast rised the level because of the rain and melting snow. etc...
Good hypotheses! The expedition is something that is possible and the authors of the Harvard publication say, that a good way for assessing this would be archival research to check for any mentioning of such a (Greek) expedition. The hypothesis with the traders is less likely I think, as Roopkund Lake is not located near any present or past trading route (that we know of). Also regarding the freezing: cold air tends to accumulate in the lowest elevation point accessible, and a pit, such as the Roopkund lake" would be suitable for that. All good ideas! :)
