  • Hey Guys and Gals!
In this video i show you how to replace the timing belt on your Toyota Landcruiser 80 series, 105 series, 70 series with the 1HZ or 1HD-T engines.
I talk you through the process of replacing the timing belt and tensioning roller bearing. There are two pulleys that need to be aligned and one tensioner pulley. You will need to remove the power steering res & the timing cover. Then you can rotate the engine by the crank bolt until the timing marks align. I use a paint pen to highlight the timing marks and make it very easy to see. You can then remove the tensioner bolts and remove the tensioner completely. Then the belt will easily be able to be pulled off the pulleys.
After cleaning down the area with brake cleaner i began the reassembly. Firstly fit the Tensioner Pulley and loosely do up the bolts about finger tight but so the tensioner pulley can move up and down freely. Then you can fit the timing belt to the pulleys, ensure that the slack in the belt is on the tensioner side and on the other side the belt is rather tight with no play.
Then it is time to fit the tensioning spring, after this is fitted check the tension on the belt and tighten the tensioner bolts. Rotate the engine over twice untill your timing marks realign and check that all the marks are exactly aligned before fitting the timing cover.
Not your ready to fit the power steering resivour and the timing belt replacement sticker. Then start your vehicle and ensure everything is running ok!
It is a rather easy process and once you have done it once you will get better and quicker at working with engine timing each time you do such jobs.
I hope this helps you guys in replacing your timing belt on your 1HZ and 1HD-T engines. If it did help you, please support my channel by liking and SUBSCRIBING to my channel :D
    Thanks alot guys and gals!

You sure did make that look easy. Would you say leave the water pump until it starts failing? I notice so many people say "do the water pump at the same time"? Thx man, great vid!

How simple a timing belt change is that!
No wonder the six cylinder has a reputation for going on forever. Make it simply to service and people are more likely to service it.

I'm watching this video after watching a video on how to replace my Land Rover timing belt.
In THAT video, the engine block STARTED on a workbench and was about 40 minutes long, with a lot of cuts.

Hey mate awesome vid, how exactly do line the markings up (turn the engine over to the correct position)?

Use a socket and extension bar and turn the engine over by the crank pulley bolt. Turn it clockwise until both of the marks align. Cheers :D

You should have put the GATES part number for both belt and tensioner.

Hey mate I want to take the backing plate off and do the water pump but what if the cam moves? How do I get it back?

    • @howtonick2803
      @howtonick2803  5 років тому

Hey Seanz! You will need to lock the camshaft to loosen off the cam bolt to get the pulley off and then get the backing plate off. So you will need to remove the rocker cover, hold the cam and loosen of the bolt and take off the pulley. You will be able to align the camshaft with the timing mark by using the central bolt or the cam cutouts.

I think in the 105 series and 100 series it may be a 150 000 km interval. On the older models i think its good to do it every 100 000.
