No, unless there's evidence she acted in bad faith (such as being paid for her decision), she can only be impeached and removed from office by Congress. This is how the appeals process is supposed to work. A lower judge makes a flawed decision, and then the appellate judge(s) overturn that decision.
I would think of her legal reputation, credibility and standing in that community has been damaged by her willingness to step outside the bounds of law to help frump; and her judicial discretion will be questioned for a period to come.
There should be ''consequences'' for a misjudgement at this level and regarding the fragility of the case. And as an attorney it seems odd you’d see the Appellate Court simply doing what they’re supposed to do, and that is making these decisions based on the law, as patriotic. I’m glad they ruled the correct way, and provided an opinion that accurately addressed many of these issues, it’s certainly a concerning thing when we begin to see the judges as patriotic for simply doing what their post commands of them. But in a sense I also get it considering how Cannon clearly made her decision without any legal foundation for doing so. As a soon to be attorney that is what I’ll always find wild about all of this, a judge making a highly public decision that was clearly erroneous without even having some stretch of legal analysis that one who disagrees could at least follow her logic as to why she interpreted the law in the way she did.

The fact that Cannon allowed a special master to review top secret documents was crazy to me. It genuinely worried me about the future of the USA. We will NEVER be perfect but I thought we were better than this obvious corruption. Knowing someone in an official capacity basically exposed and rejected it is a literal sigh of relief.
Given the variety of topics that these documents may cover, the 'need to know" provision would make it exceedingly hard to find a single person who could be special master as they would have to have clearance for the highest level of classification AND simultaneously have the "need to know" that would allow the master to see all of the documents. Who could you get as special master who is both qualified for that and had no vested interests and would be able to be impartial??
That the judge stated, she didn't believe that the documents marked confidential were confidential (without evidence or arguments to the contrary) shocked me.

It’s pretty common knowledge that judges hate being overturned on appeal. Which is why her decision here was so weird. She didn’t even have a good argument with backing law to where you could at least understand why she ruled how she did. It was bound to be rerversed in light of her legal analysis

" I can declassify something just by thinking about it" in terms of classified information that has got to be the stupidest thing I have heard in my whole life. From the age of 18 ( when I went into the Navy) till the age of 61( when I retired) over that 43 year. There was only four maybe five years that I did not have a clearance. As a result I got exposed to a lot about classifications and security clearances and need to know. I'm not saying Trump couldn't have Declassified but there is a process you must go through in order to make that happen like with anything else of consequence there has to be traceability He has not provided any traceability to the declassification of any of those documents. You are wrong. POTUS has the authority to change the declassification process. President Trump did this on Jan 19, 2021 before leaving the White House. He left a note about this for Biden who failed to notify others. Blame Biden, not Trump.

I thought regarding permanent repercussions you would have said NOW we can move forward with election reform, an analysis of the Electoral System and a national debate about keeping it or not. But first it would be necessary and good to let the Electoral System as conceived by our Founders just stand. Work out reform of how the people have a voice in the electors chosen in each state. Write a Federal law upholding the people's voice to be more powerful than the whims of any state legislature or administration. Pass a Federal law that each state has a deadline to reform it's voting policies to state that the will of it's citizens is to be followed.

Can Judge Cannon be convicted for obstruction of justice? She has to suffer some consequences based on what both Dearie and the Appeals Court have determined.
No, unless there's evidence she acted in bad faith (such as being paid for her decision), she can only be impeached and removed from office by Congress. This is how the appeals process is supposed to work. A lower judge makes a flawed decision, and then the appellate judge(s) overturn that decision.
She applied her personal "opinion" and not the law. There should be a consequence for that.
I would think of her legal reputation, credibility and standing in that community has been damaged by her willingness to step outside the bounds of law to help frump; and her judicial discretion will be questioned for a period to come.
There should be ''consequences'' for a misjudgement at this level and regarding the fragility of the case. Again, knowing fully well that Mercedes decidedly chose to err in her verdict warrants some sort of penalty against her,...suspension, demotion, some punitive measures to ensure some other selfish judges do not tow her lane.

And as an attorney it seems odd you’d see the Appellate Court simply doing what they’re supposed to do, and that is making these decisions based on the law, as patriotic. I’m glad they ruled the correct way, and provided an opinion that accurately addressed many of these issues, it’s certainly a concerning thing when we begin to see the judges as patriotic for simply doing what their post commands of them. But in a sense I also get it considering how Cannon clearly made her decision without any legal foundation for doing so. As a soon to be attorney that is what I’ll always find wild about all of this, a judge making a highly public decision that was clearly erroneous without even having some stretch of legal analysis that one who disagrees could at least follow her logic as to why she interpreted the law in the way she did.

The fact that Cannon allowed a special master to review top secret documents was crazy to me. It genuinely worried me about the future of the USA. We will NEVER be perfect but I thought we were better than this obvious corruption. Knowing someone in an official capacity basically exposed and rejected it is a literal sigh of relief.
Given the variety of topics that these documents may cover, the 'need to know" provision would make it exceedingly hard to find a single person who could be special master as they would have to have clearance for the highest level of classification AND simultaneously have the "need to know" that would allow the master to see all of the documents. Who could you get as special master who is both qualified for that and had no vested interests and would be able to be impartial??

From the age of 18 ( when I went into the Navy) till the age of 61( when I retired) over that 43 year. There was only four maybe five years that I did not have a clearance. As a result I got exposed to a lot about classifications and security clearances and need to know. I'm not saying Trump couldn't have Declassified but there is a process you must go through in order to make that happen like with anything else of consequence there has to be traceability He has not provided any traceability to the declassification of any of those documents. It is refreshing to see that some Republican Trump appointees do not slavishly do his bidding i.e the director of the FBI and 2 judges of the 11th circuit. Not so Aileen Cannon who has tarnished whatever "objective" reputation she may have had.
And now the DOJ has to prove that Trump had classified documents. And they won't be able to prove that. Be careful what you ask for.

I thought regarding permanent repercussions you would have said NOW we can move forward with election reform, an analysis of the Electoral System and a national debate about keeping it or not.
But first it would be necessary and good to let the Electoral System as conceived by our Founders just stand. Work out reform of how the people have a voice in the electors chosen in each state. Write a Federal law upholding the people's voice to be more powerful than the whims of any state legislature or administration.
Pass a Federal law that each state has a deadline to reform it's voting policies to state that the will of it's citizens is to be followed.

I suggest proportional representation. Parties get seats in the house based on the number of votes they get and the president is chosen directly by the people. Whoever gets the most votes wins. GET RID OF THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE. It is a relic of by gone time.

All he really needed to do when he lost in 2020 was take it with a modicum of dignity and then profit off a regular speech circuit and media appearances for the rest of his life. If he had done that, chances are no one in DOJ or the state level AGs would have found it sufficiently worth the political hornet's nest or precident-setting to pursue him, an ex-president, afterwards. But he couldn't act like an adult and think through how to move gracefully into a "next chapter"; he refused to accept the loss, so now he's finally looking down the barrel of a whole lot of long-coming consequences. He has finally pushed his luck too far.
