RARE Clare Yard RR Switching! Hard To Get Action On Short Line Railroad Cincinnati Eastern Railroad

- See How Norfolk Southern Sets Freight Cars Off For Cincinnati Eastern Railroad. Railroad Interchange For Short Line Railroad & Class One. 4 Track Clare Yard On Ex Pennsylvania Railroad Track With Abandoned Railroad Track & Start Of CCET Track. Includes Remote Railroad Bridge Of Little Miami River. Train Chase & Swapping Freight Cars In Mariemont, Ohio.
I went to Norfolk Southern Clare Yard in Mariemont, Ohio to show how NS and CCET swap cars. The railroad interchange here is where CCET starts leasing 69+ route miles. Mile Post 9 on the Peavine Line as you will see is the start of CCET track that runs all the way to Jaybird Road at Mile Post 78.455 near Plum Run, Ohio.
I was hoping the train would show up in the morning but they were running late. They started their day near Winchester, Ohio. Eventually, I went looking for the train and found them at Afton Yard near Williamsburg. The video shows me chase the train back to Clare Yard. Notice the train swapping cars and then return eastbound over the giant railroad bridge over the Little Miami River. There were 18 cars delivered westbound and 23 cars taken back eastbound. The train ended the day just east of Newtown, Ohio at a spot known as Ancor. This is rare video footage of train action at Clare. I challenge anyone to find a video of a CCET train going over the Little Miami River bridge. It is a very long walk to get here legally. The public hiking trails actually cross the tracks.
A couple of corrections: Norfolk Southern switches the place with the tank cars, not I&O. The freight cars are cleaned here for P&G and not transloaded.

Brian, this is SO good. The down to earth reality of railroading. You’re the best at this, like an old friend.
The trestle shot is fabulous JT, especially with the beautiful reflection in the river! I appreciate you taking the long hike to get there. That is a gorgeous area to film. The bright blue sky makes it even better! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
This is a really great look at the rarely used Clare Yard surrounded by the
most beautiful scenery and countryside for Cincinnati Eastern Railroad
in Mariemont Ohio, very nice to see this area and the rail line here and
also awesome to see Norfie and the Train Dogs making their annual
appearance just being themselves playing around and this is another
really great video Thank You Jaw Tooth.🇺🇲🤠🐶🐱🇺🇲
🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲💨💨
Norfie has grown to be a beautiful black cat. I remember the videos when he was just a little kitten. Never look into the eyes of a small, fuzzy black kitten; it’ll mesmerize you, and you’ll forever be its servant! 😂😂😂💙💙
Super shot at the bridge JawTooth!!!!!!! 😊🎉❤
Thanks for watching my video!
Thanks for sharing some interesting facts about the area around the Claire yard. 👍
You my friend are one hard working railfan. The efforts you put in to bring us such excellent videos, outstanding. The CCET Claire rail yard, and a CCET train crossing the trestle at sunset,, beautiful. Well done JT.
Thank you very much!
As one of those viewers who was not subscribed, now am! My 3yr old loves your videos and shouts "there's more!"
Thanks for watching and for subscribing!
This is so cool JT, Ive never seen this aspect of the railroad before. Sometimes its better filming in Winter so you see more with less foilage on the trees. This is a beautiful natural area of the USA! Fab VIDEO JT ❤😊👍
I remember taking pictures of N&W here from 1977-1982! The employees even let me in the tower
Thanks for giving us a view of where CCET gets the traffic. You get a double plus for the extra effort!
You bet!
Enjoy your videos but think this has been my favorite! Beautiful scenery and especially loved the bridge shot with the reflection. Looked like a lot of effort for you to get this but we'll worth it. Thanks for the great videos!
❤️❤️ Ditto on all the positive comments JT. You are definitely dedicated and gifted in many ways. If there is or ever will be a railfan hall of Fame, I believe you and Hobo Shoestring both should be in it. Each on your own merit of course. Hopefully we'll all make it to the great railfan gig in the sky. Cheers! 👍👍
Great video JT! I especially liked the train going over the bridge. The shot with the reflection was absolutely fabulous!
Cool old trestle JT! They're all trestles to me, too. Great minds think alike! LOL
You got that right!
Hey jaw tooth nice little yard and interchange area. Glad you caught train doing interchange. Have a great railroad day 🚂🙋♀️
Fantastic JT all the best from Scotland 😊
Your last train shot was beautiful....the river was so calm, the reflection was almost perfect. Thanks!
Great inspiration for the model railroader looking for an interchange to model. Jaw rules!
I appreciate this video. I have never seen these views before and I appreciate the effort it took. Personally, I’d rather do this much walking when it’s in the 30’s than the 80’s or 90’s. Don’t have to worry about ticks, mosquitoes, poison ivy, or snakes!
Very good point. Last year the ticks really got me bad. I almost stepped on snakes twice and the weeds and stickers were a problem.
@@FabianDiazTrainsTrucksNCars That would be nice but it would take some major brush and tree cutting. Acres of hillside woods and brush would need removed. That would be costly. Actually the ppl in Mariemont wouldn't want that. The condos that face the 4 track Clare Yard have complained about the trains parked there and I saw them on television one time. They complained about tank cars sitting there in front of the condos. The news took credit for having the cars removed but when I asked CCET about it they didn't know anything about it. The tank cars were storage cars that the owners wanted moved. lol
Beautiful. Gorgeous train crossing a trestle, reflected in the river, in the late afternoon sunlight.
what a great shot over the bridge. That reflection was perfect! Just plain WOW, Jaw Tooth!
Excellent catch, Brian, thank you.
Many thanks!
@@JawTooth You're welcome.
Beautiful filming with the sunset! Just a painting Jaw tooth! Well done!
Many Thanks Jaw Tooth, Great video as always! I hunted date nails from the crossing at Columbia Pkwy to Clare Yard in the winter of 1988. There was a guy on a back hole in the yard pulling rail as hunted the Yard. There was not a tree line between the main and the yard back then. I will be glad to send you some of nails if you are interested? N&W used date nails from 1921 to 1960. Again Many Thanks!
Wow. I always wanted to see what Clare Yard was all about. Looked completely different than what I was expecting. Interesting area and neat confluence of rail lines. I like the old signals in the yard!!
Grew up in Mariemont in the Sixties and Seventies. Remember going down to get spring water at a faucet in the middle of the rail yard with Mom. There was often a line to fill up jugs. There was a boarding house (?) down there as well that I believe had a bar. We weren't allowed to go in! And the steam plant further east (I think is gone now) still existed. Creepy inside but fascinating idea. Was built to heat houses/apts in town back in the 1920's.
One of your best yet. I was down at Clare in 2009. That was a busy place at one time. Penn Central days To think I rode on that stretch of track on the Cincy Limited. There is a photo out there that has Clare tower when N&W had diamonds to cross the PRR.
Great shot with the train on the bridge 😅 well done ‼️
Hello from Round Rock Texas. A great photographer will go to great lengths to get the best shot. You did well for the bridge shot. Enjoyed it very much. Your channel is my favorite RR channel. Can't go a day without a great Jawtooth video. Keep up the good work.
Spectacular bridge shot, JT! Interesting yard. Too bad it wasn't busy. Well worth your time though. Thanx.
Wow! This one stirred up some memories from about 30+ years ago when my brother and I were kids visiting our grandparents. We would ride our bikes to the yard and spend all day hiking and crawling around stuff. It’s surprising how little the yard has changed in 30 years. That trans load facility was built around the time we explored down there, there were some smaller buildings here and there. A couple more tracks here and there. Used to be a extremely steep driveway from the overlook where you were down to the yard. Beyond that, it’s still a very sleepy train yard. It had less traffic when I was a kid. This location is what drew me to your videos about 6-7 years ago and have been hooked since. Love the short line stuff!
Best Jawtooth yet! I've been following you for about 4 years - love the CCET - live off of Beechwood and Roundbottom. I've often thought to myself I wish JT would film the interchange with NS over in Clare Yard so I can see how that hand-off works, but I know it isn't easy to get back in there. Well, damned if you didn't get 'er done! Now I know how to get in there thru the Mariemont Gardens. A little trivia: the N&W had a Wye just east of the Little Miami trestle where they turned the big Y class steam locomotives? I think they were too big to turn in Clare Yard. You can see the outline of the Wye from Google Earth. Love your vids, son!😀
Well done there Jaw Tooth. The trestle shot we extra cool. That trestle reminded me of the old abandoned SAL trestle in Wimauma on the SW line.
Beautiful shot of the bridge and river reflection Jawtooth!👍 awesome location!
Brian I nearly lived down in Clare Yard back in the 60s. When the box cars were sitting for the CCET to pick up on the right was originally the PRR tracks two tracks that went east to west to old steam plant that was just to your left. There is three or four siding tracks were the CCET use when they bring back cars from up east. To the west the Bultmatic plant is where Clare Yard was back in the day. Now there are only a few tracks in there and they store tankers back there as well. Correct the I&O does the transportation of cars to that plant. There were originally 12 tracks in there at one time the YMCA two towers, several buildings and a coal dump plus a turntable back in the day. The south 80 which is where the walking path and gardens are now was a farmers field back in the day. We would go down there and hop hills with our bikes in the summer and also motorcycles groups would go down there in the 60s and do the same. There was a deep ravine back there where bikers would hill jump.
Awesome video JT, great shots of the bridge.👍👌😇
This was a great video JT and the reflection off the water caused by the sun was amazing. Thank you so very much for bringing this video to everyone to watch. This was one of the best of your videos I have watched. Stay safe traveling blessings on your travels.
Love the reflection shot while on the bridge, great catch.
Excellent informative video which I enjoyed watching 👍😃😃👍🚂🇬🇧
Running around in those woods by yourself near a RR yard, you probably ought to be packing a "heater" if you're not already doing so........ Great video, Brian.
Great point. I have been robbed several times
Thanks Jaw Tooth for an awesome video, especially the reflection off the water while crossing the bridge. You need to make some still prints of that part of the video, you could make some extra monies off that excellent shot. Have a great Day, my Friend.
JT, a great trip. The bridge over the Little Miami River was the best yet. You nailed it!.
Thanks 👍
Despite the cold weather, you're still able to walk these trails, even at long distances. I wish I could.
I especially like yard videos.
Beautiful river reflection with train..well done. 😊thank you for sharing..
Thank you too!
Mariemont, OH - had no idea. Love those interchange points between moster RRs and local service lines.Rare Clare Yard - it even rhymes! And in that one are Norfolk Southern, CCET, and IORY come together. Wow! Community gardens - says a lot positive about that community. What great juice! when you explain the loads and customers, and we're not yet at minute 4:00 yet. BONUS! 1500s Indian (Indiginous People) Village Site. There was a Miami Tribe in that area, so the name of the river. That walk is good for you, Jawtooth! All those tracks and RRs and we don't see a train until ... in on the video. What you filmed at 9:00 is, indeed a trestle! You had to go to Afton to find us a train at 10:30 - appreciated! And you returned to Clare Yard to catch the action there,, coming up on sunset. That trestle shot in the golden sunset, mirrored in the Little Miami River, is classic! None better! Some stills from that segment are marketable! That trestle must be fragile, what with a 5-8 mph limit. Do a walk like that 3 times a week and you'll soon be in really good shape - champion JT! 🏅Big fan. Stay well, Dennis, Shenandoah County, VA, where there are no longer any active rail lines, former Southern/Norfolk Southern Valley Branch Line, terminated 2008.
Love the reflection of the train going over the bridge!
Thanks!
This was a great video, really love the yard and switching. Really liked the narration you did in this video made it so much more interesting. Awesome shot of the bridge and reflection. Great job!
What a cool video. It was fabulous JT! I apologize for misspelling Locky's name all this time 😮. I hope I didn't mess up Chessie and Brandi's name too. Thank you so much for the entertainment! I truly appreciate it! 😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
You scored a good one with that bridge reflection JT!
It be interesting if you ever catch one from underneath the brige.
Fantastic Jaw!!!! I know you worked hard and spent a long time getting this Clare Yard Interchange. I’m very very grateful for you doing so.
Wow, thanks! It was a challenge
Enjoyed this very much,I see that they finally put the CET logo on 3512 I've been watching the entire series on the CET I'm at #80 and very interesting short line
That was a cane break you were in at the early point of the video we had one on the farm I grew up in Alabama they tend to grow in wet areas I was actually surprised to see one that far north as always good video👍
I thought the same thing! I live in the southernmost city in Texas, Brownsville, and we have cane and bamboo all around us. It is interesting when they burn off the cane fields, lots of smoke, and quite smelly!
I was surprised to see it way up here also. I see them in Florida all the time but it seemed out of place in Ohio. This is an Indian area next to the river
Thank you for showing us the very West End. My dad use to run the Pevine for N&W back during the strike of 1978 from Williamson, WV to Clare Yard and on down to Cincinnati Terminal.
Very cool! Its possible I could have seen his train
@@JawTooth He would only run long
Hood forward. I have a picture oh him running the engine with a big 357 Magnum Hog Leg strapped on his chest! During the N&W strike of 1978.
Nice reflection shot at the trestle, like the junction with NS!🛤🚂
Fascinating look at this side of CET line!
Absolute money shot on the bridge crossing. Outstanding job!!
Thanks!
Excellent INFO, Thumbs up and I didn't skip over the commercials.
Hey, got a catch for you and 1960 Gambit, yall have to make a road trip down to Charleston, WV. There's a huge rail yard next to a massive metals facility that you can see while traveling on I 64. And in the yard as I was going through there heading to VA, there are 2 cabooses that are coupled together. The first one is a Operation Lifesaver CSX caboose while the other is a Chessie System caboose... I already told Scott that I was passing this catch to yall so hopefully when the weather mess clears that yall may be able to get this before they move... Another great video as always.... Stay safe....😊
What an awesome video today, Brian. Many thanks for your birthday wishes. My black cat 🐈⬛️ Void is sleeping somewhere in my house. Norfie looks just like my cat. Loki is getting bigger since you got this dog. Many thanks for your birthday wishes, everyone. God bless everyone and take care of yourself. God does listen to your prayers. 🙏
Thank you for the Clair Yard switching video. I wandered where the CCET RR started .
Back in the day there was a road that came down from Mariemont just west of the overlook that went right to Clare Yard where it is all fenced in. That old box car has been sitting down in Clare for years. They did use it for supplies but it got broken into many times. Where you were filming on the river bed is where i fished many times
Fantastic video JT! Nice views on the walkabout..and awesome shot of the train going across the trestle!
🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💯👍🇺🇸
Primo...keep up the good work...fantastic shot of the "trestle...
So glad you chose the bridge shot!
Thank you for all your efforts - definitely appreciate it!!
May God always protect you and your family.
Thank you! You too! God Bless
Beautiful shot of the train on the bridge. When you said you called all bridges ‘trestles’ I had to look up the difference. And now I know. According to Google, a trestle is a bridge, but not all bridges are trestles. Trestles use a tripod shape of under structure to support the span. (Sorry, I have a librarian’s brain!). Have a great rest of the day, week month and year (covering all my bases,😁) But, living in this wonderful country of ours, you have the right to call it anything you want to!
This is such a treat for me. Being too old now, I don’t get out like I used to.
Sir wonderful location and marvellous camera position thankyou again
I like it when you take us exploring. Cool water tower. Enjoy the CET switching too. I’m glad you got the train on the river bridge. ❤
it's amazing how much info you know about these rails. wow, any your truck is way over there...!
I love the treks into the wilderness Jawtooth, plus the switching.❤
And I love the tracks into the wilderness. 😅
*tracks
I appreciate the effort you put into getting that shot on the bridge JT. That was a fantastic shot with the sun shining on the bridge and that reflection on the river was outstanding!
Impressive dedication following these trains, thanks 😊😎👌👍!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@ about 22:00 the train crossing that trestle with that sun.....brilliant!
Loved the video budie we got a lot of SNOW ❄️ over here in coq bc and I am going out soon to see trains at new westminster saperton skytrain station bc my favorite railfanning spot hopefully I see something cool today on tracks finger s crossed 🤞 great video 😊
JT, great video!!! The walk through the woods was indeed through bamboo. I can grow certain bamboo up here in Wisconsin! No wonder you thought you were in Florida!!!
Great job . . . takes me places l would never get a chance to see. . . love the history, etc. . . and of course the pet videos.
Well done JT, thanks
That is awesome! Bamboo is some cool stuff. Thanks for watching!
I overslept.. Good morning all. Enjoy the day!
Wonderful winter photography!!!
Great reflections in the river.
Very cool video. The way that Tressel was reflected in the Miami River was a sight to behold. Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it
Loved the views on this video. Looks like a nice their community created. Do you think the CCET corporate office would do a video with you on the operation of their railroad?
Hi Brian. It’s Randy in Chattanooga. I hope you’re keeping warm enough out there. Gotta stay healthy. God bless.
Thanks Randy and hello! I am trying to get healthy again. I had that surgery last week but I plan on filming tomorrow. lol
Good morning jaw tooth wonderful train🇺🇸 you americans are very good people and also fantastic good. 🇮🇹♥️🇺🇸 Greetings from Italy 😉🇮🇹
Thank you! 😃
Another interesting video
I broke down and bought a Baofeng UV-5R to listen to the local rail action here in Hiram,Ga. The previous night we had 10 degrees and numerous switches froze up on them. Good action as they sorted things out. Keep listing frequencies so I can add them. Thanks
Very cool! You can get most of the frequencies on radioreference.com
nice looking engines and the reflection on the water stunning wow
I like Ciocinnati eastan
railrord , Today seen is very fresh. Thank you very much.
ALOT of physical effort to get this one out. The bridge shot was perfect. 32 degrees would be a heat wave fore us. We hit -35 with a wind chill of -51 last Sunday here in Edmonton Canada. Great channel.
Very interesting video. Thanks for the exploration. The shot going over the bridge was really special. Thanks.
If you had 2 cameras you could have gotten both shots. I also love the history you show in your walks.
Glad you showed tis as I can see where the Peavine Line ties thank you .
Thanks for watching!
JT, awesome video!!! That trail you used was through bamboo!!! No wonder you thought you were in Florida!!!
Great job, keep up the great work. Going places l would never see !!! Thanks
Thanks! 👍
It must have been a long time since you filmed here last. I don't remember it. I'm glad you did and thanks for going back! What an awesome trip.
Yes it was! The last video from here is under my Cincinnati East Terminal Railway play list
While you were traveling along side the train I had thoughts of traveling beside the NBSR tracks outside Saint John as your just as close. only once saw a train there as I traveled. was Clare Yard busy in the day and that 50 ft double door is cool. thank you.
Thanks for getting this. Looking on Google maps, it looks like its hard to get to, but I always wanted to see them at the interchange in your vids. Great catch!
What a cool location, loving it. Transload is a huge segment of railroading of late. We've got several of these here in Wisconsin. Great historical background info. Excellent pacing shot. Really appreciate the amount of hoofing you're putting in. Absolutely awesome video, enjoyed it much. Thanks JT!
Gald u were able to get some train action among the beautiful scenery.
Thanks!
Wow that sure was quite the obscure trackage especially when there is no Rodeway nearby and during most of the year is obscured by foliage. Once Purina gets going they may have to actually rebuild the other two tracks. That certainly is another impressive Bridge and it is interesting how all these lines intersect. You sure had a good weather day considering all the wind snow and icy conditions. If this actually was a manned yard Once Upon a Time it sure had to be a lonely job.
If I remember right, Clare yard was the interchange betweem the PRR and N&W back in the day. It's interesting that NS now operates the PRR side of the interchange and CCET operates the formerly NS owned part.
That was really worth the day's effort. One of the best videos I have seen in a while. The winter sunshine brings out the colours beautifully and the shot of the bridge with a perfect reflection was a proper artwork! You really got it all together this time and the CCET locos look great in that light. Definitely 10 out of 10 for effort as well as for the content. Good to see CCET looking like a really scenic railroad too.
Looks like we have more snow over here in Grosmont, North Yorkshire UK than you have over there for once. It's been - 8C overnight and enough snow to make the 33% grade out of the village fun even with a 4x4!
Thanks again for the superb video.
