My idea on how to save LOTR: The Rings of Power in season 2. They should start season 2 with JD Payne and Patrick Macay as orcs sitting around a campfire saying What do you think? The other orcs look around at each other and exclaim "That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Then one of the orcs can steal i line from the movies "Look like meats back on the menu boys" and all of the orcs proceed to rip JD Mac to shreds. Then someone says here's what really happened.
I think you put a fine point on the state of the writing, which is an insult to piss to call it "piss poor". However, I think throwing around that someone is racist so frivolously is silly. The proof you have that he is not racist is that he wrote a book about the mythology of Britannia, where there were no indigenous black people featured. That's kinda crappy.
It's wrong to assume that just because someone doesn't have "best friends" of a certain color, that they "don't like" people of that color. Otherwise, a great review!👍
The difference between the PJ trilogy and this show is the PJ trilogy was mostly based in Tolkien's writings and characters (and the worst parts of those movies were just those in which they deviated from his writings), and this show only uses character names and places invented by Tolkien, but not a single one of his stories related with them. I personally gave up in this show after hear the casting and the showrunners insulting Tolkien (calling him Sexist and racist, and even hinting a relationship with certain german regime from the XX century) and saying that they had wrote a better history than Tolkien could have ever wrote because they had, you know, diversity in their show. As a sidenote, I think you have misunderstood the issue with raceswapped characters and the Tolkien fans, probably guided by what the media, cast, showrunners and Amazon invented about it. Away from that, an interesting review of the show, good job.
Don't think this is savageable. They've destroyed Sauron and the mysticism and mystery around him. He's a weak looking humany bloke now however much crazy armour they put on him. They'll try and save it in the way that JJ whatshisface 'saved' star wars after the last jedi.
I didn't have a problem with the mixed race casting. And i don't think you can call Tolkien racist as the fellowship of the ring is literally made up of peoples from four distinct races being led by an envoy of the gods. The biggest problem with the show was its absolute disregard for Tolkien's mythology and world building. You had writers who believed they could write a better fantasy than Tolkien, arguably the best fantasy creator of all time. My overwhelming sentiment after watching the first four episodes was dissapointment at such a missed opportunity to create something memorable and brilliant........I couldn't bring myself to watch the last two episodes.
So if they did a remake of Seven Samurai and kept the story in feudal Japan like the original, you see no problem with casting Black and White actors as some of the Samurai? In feudal Japan????
Reacsting Seven Samurai with non Japanese actor that's a problem cause that movie is based more on reality and history but Lord of the Rings is fiction/fantasy, everything is made up so having actors with different races in it is not as bad or awful but the worst thing is not that they cast black people in this show but they cast actor with different races to look and sound woke and appeal to different people agendas, so i am not mad that they cast actor with different races but that they soily cast them because of there race and not acting ability because Hollywood thinks that if we have diverse cast that that will make the show automatically better
I use the same Argument all the time... The Expanse and Marvels agents of shield etc. Are totally mixed race... Great actors too... In those settings it makes sense... But in old european fantasy.. Its just looks stupid.. And offen then the acting is Bad... Not because of the actors.. But because the woke producers cast the wrong person trying to fill a quota
The books weren't racist, they were just set in a European style location at a time when there hadn't been much integration of races. He does include dark skinned people from exotic lands in reference. Very few of those complaining about the integration are truly racist; most just have valid concerns about the casting being randomly placed, even scattered into every race regardless of logical defiance. Elves were created in a time before a Sun, dwarves live in caves, and harpoons are a very small genetic group, so they don't make sense having a black elf with a perfect fresh fade.
Harfoots* not harpoons. It was also so diverse in the casting that even family units looked completely unrelated, which just takes the viewer out of it. Conversely I don't see half of the Wakandans of Africa being played by asians, whites, hispanics or other. No surprise that we didn't see Julian Moore as the African Queen, so why would it be okay to shoehorn in horrendous casting choices all in the name of woke approval? Why would this obvious pandering be looked at as progressive instead of an insult to both the fans of an established IP as well as to those that is intended to be placating. Just make good movies, cast them naturally, and let people enjoy escapism without being forced political propaganda about things we already agree with
-now i understand why everybody was praising Dwarf Prince and Erlond arguing on elevator and dwarf things. Other things happening had no drama to be get interested in... -Black Legolas and medecine woman who goes everywhere showing bare fat shoulders and upper arms come up together in the scene, they look so much aroused (especially their burning eyes) as if they are going to start devouring each other in the next second (which they never will do so).
You are the fan base the Abomination Team thought they were aiming for. People who loved Jackson's masterpiece on its own merits and gained a thirst to know more. What they advertised to was a rather different group. I don't think it's fair to give any credence to the idea of Tolkien being a racist. He was a creature of his own intellectual world and spent literally every hour of his waking life teaching the in-depth interrelations of languages or constructing his own languages and creating an entire cosmos to include them. I'm not sure he ever noticed that humans come in different colors. The man was the antithesis of a racist, someone who was intensely interested in the contents of people's characters, and completely apathetic to their external attributes. We Tolkien book fans started out as a bunch of hippies in the sixties, and some of still are. Calling us nazis pretty much killed any chance this show had with us before it started.
it is not by only being not likeable...she has no character or mystery enough to make her a villain that you can not take your eyes off. Just boring like a plank.
Not sure about Tolkien being racist, he was quite liberal for his time and England was slavery-free for like a hundred years already. But yeah, anyway, everything in this bs show sucks🤜🤛

That would improve it dramatically 😄
and all the orcs get bad stomach later...

Dwarves and Elrond was my favourite part, the only characters with some actual depth behind them.

The only way to salvage this mess is come out publicly and say they are re-doing the full thing from scratch with Peter Jackson at the wheel
@@this.handle.is.alreadytaken and to buy the rights to the silmarillion and whatever else they need to do it right.

You started wrong 😃😃😃
Peter Jackson similarly had limited rights, they didn't have rights to Hobbit and silmarrilion when making lotr

or das boot, could you imagine black people, or jewish people etc... on a german u-boat in ww2?

Or zulu. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't go down too well if the tribes were depicted as white people.

Good Review Bro! Yea this show is a terribly written woke mess
Thank You 😁

Yeah, man!
I doubt you’d be so easy going if there were had a bunch of Latino Wakandans or Eddie Redmayne was cast as Blade. 🧐

Thank You
This whole series is just so absurd.
