Wow! Thank you for posting this! It saved me a day of “ how the hell do you access that fill plug”. I have a 2007 Ranger 700efi 6x6. Same frustrating set up. Now I can just open the drain, measure out 150ml and put it down the breather tube, exactly like you showed. I’m typing this while I’m waiting for the fluid to slowly trickle in. Maybe 10 min. Cool work-around!!!
Your technique worked great! It was especially helpful filling through the vent tube since I couldn't get the fill plug out. Thanks for the video and helpful suggestion.
Richard Treat , you know what, it is alot better doing it that way. i tryed filling threw that plug, and it didnt like to take oil. even with a rube stuck way in there it was runing out while filling. gonna redo it tomorow
Rather than using the vent line, I just ran a Ø3/8 clear vinyl hose to mine and filled from above. As far as the fluid, its a Hilliard drive gearbox. You can basically use tractor hydraulic fluid in it according to Hilliard (HyGuard, HyTran, Rando DH46, John Deere J20C/D, Shell Donax TD.... etc). Much more economical than the Polaris private labeled stuff.
I’m doing this as I’m posting right now and it is very slow but I got all day😊 Update….. it was not draining into the diff after two hours so I tried a different method by using a squeeze bottle with the oil and forcing the oil thru the vent tube line. Bam went right in and no leaks. Worked pretty good.
This was helpful information for sure, seems like all these repair replace videos no one takes 10 minutes to spray dirt off the units before they tear into them.......Why?????
Great video. I blew out the left front CV joint on my Ranger and I worried it was the front differential with the grinding noise. Anyway a rebuilt differential is not cheap so I am starting to take all of my maintenance seriously starting with changing the fluid. I guess when an office worker buys a Ranger he ought to take a few minutes to understand some of the maintenance needs!
The tech is BSing you, You can run atf dex 3 and it wont hurt we have used it for years with no issues. instead of measuring it pull your fill plug to tell you when full.
Robert Hill The fill plug is really hard to get to. Once you get the breather tube set-up you can drain and fill the front diff without taking anything apart.

Very helpful particularly on how to fill back up. Great video.

thank you for the great data, once you have poured in the fluid, how long does it take to get the fluid into the gear box
It has been a long time I am not sure. I wandered off and did a different job and came back.
Yep very slow. If your in a hurry do it the hard way 😎
Thank you was wondering if I could do that and found your vid
Question: mars1952 are you familiar with MarsTLP?
