  • Hello Friends -
For your enjoyment, this is a short collection (tape 3) of clips from various moments from 1986 - 1987 from KVUE 24 TV in Austin, TX (ABC affiliate). Here you'll see bits and pieces of Station IDs, network promos, local / national commercials, some quick clips of the local news, etc. Many of these were featured during the original run of Sledge Hammer! on ABC, with intro / outro credits announcing upcoming shows and specials (I have many of the original Sledge Hammer! broadcasts but will not post due to copyright). This collection, like others I've posted, is basically a collection of mish-mashed items that some of you may find interesting within Austin's broadcast history. A fun look at what television was like in the 80s.

I am hoping to submit more footage from television stations in the Austin area (80s - 90s). This includes local commercials and newscasts, station bumpers, local / national commercials and so forth with identifying marks from Austin television. Hopefully you'll enjoy the nostalgia associated with these clips.
    Thank you for viewing!

8:14 Before Creamy Creations, H-E-B's ice cream was Royal Maid. 8:20 Longtime KVUE anchor Ron Olivera. 24 Action News was THE news to watch in the '80s. 10:36 local version of ABC's "That Special Feeling." 17:07 Hancock Center then was an open-air mall anchored by Sears, Dillards and H-E-B. The Dillards closed shortly after they bought Joske's and took over their store in Highland Mall about a mile away. Hancock was later redeveloped into more of a strip mall with a relocated H-E-B, but the Sears hung on to the end. By the way, that old Joskes will soon be the new home of Austin PBS, KLRU, as Highland Mall is being redeveloped as a campus of Austin Community College.
