Steve Stevens on lead guitar. He toured with Michael Jackson, and is featured on the Dirty Diana video. He has played with Billy Idol for years, and still does.
Good guitarist for real, but the "thing" that surprises ABtheKreator at 02:45 is easy as breath. He just bend a string and press the tremolo arm (or whammy bar) while holding the note.
Billy is a true punk, even today. He has led a wild and reckless life and I cannot believe that he is still alive let alone actively touring. The man is a beast! Nothing but love from me!
His clothes are from the Punk era, not Michael Jackson. Billy was in the punk scene in the 70s in the UK, way before Thriller. Not everyone was trying to be Michael Jackson, lol. Ask Prince.
@@dreamstate1973The only similarity really is that they're both black and red. I just took a look at photos of both jackets, they're very different styles. Billy's is definitely taken from the 70s punk era, no sleeves, ripped up but with some 80s flair with the red. The Thriller jacket is almost a modified Members Only jacket, with that black V and raised shoulder shape added. Very 80s look. Eddie Murphy did the red leather jacket/pants look in his 'Delirious' special the same year as Thriller, they've got more of the same vibe than 70s punk. But I agree the 1 glove thing was 80s.
Back when MTV actually showed music videos, Billy Idol was practically on a constant play loop. Rebel Yell, White Wedding, Hot in The City, Dancing with Myself, Mony-Mony, Flesh for Fantasy, & Eyes Without a Face are iconic Billy Idol hits. Be sure to check out this rabbit hole, you won't be disappointed.
Been a huge Billy fan since the early 80’s. I saw him in 2019 and he still looked and sounded amazing! Plus, the same guitarist, Steve Stevens, was touring with him. Rock legend!!
Billy Idol was one my first concerts. Saw him at Astroworld in Houston in 1984. Some of the best 80's music! Mony Mony, White Wedding, Eyes Without a Face, Flesh for Fantasy, Cradle of Love, Hot in the City. Dancing With Myself is a must. Fun fact: Billy has a cameo in The Wedding Singer and White Wedding is on the soundtrack.
Billy Idol is a major Punk figure, 1st with his group, Generation X, then solo. his mate and guitarist, Steve Stevens, is a true guitar hero you heard with many other artists and also, for instance, in Top Gun movie anthem ( it's not Satrani as many believe it ) . Billy is still pursuing ihs career, with a recent album, and just a live beast ( saw him twice ) . Recently, he was intronized on Hollywood Blvd hall od fame with his own star.... very rare for an englishman!!!
Billy Idol is an amazing performer and lyricist. He’s still out there performing to this day and still an energetic artist. “Mony Mony”, “To Be A Lover”, “Flesh For Fantasy” “Dancing With Myself “ or “Eyes Without A Face” are also great songs of his.
So glad you got your first fix of Billy Idol. He has several more great songs like Dancing With Myself, White Wedding, and the list goes on. The group still tours and I think you would love to see them live.
My face when you said, “he better have a guitar solo!” 😄😄😄 and then when you got it!! 😍🥹😂😂😂 Also, I need your shirt (not the one you have on…I mean yes the one you have on but not yours, oh good lord 😂).
I don’t know what was more dangerous: Billy’s looks or Steve’s solo. They both put a hurting on us poor teens. That’s a lot of responsibility, ya know. Thanks for this.
Ok I busted out laughing reading this one! Exactly why I dropped it on AB! Kids today think they invented “hard”. Bad boys have been moth to flame forever! Haha! Thanks for the laugh Tara da OG
@@TaraWontTapOut I’m glad someone out there knew where I was coming from. 😅 It wasn’t easy to get a glimpse of our faves. Not having the internet, we were dependent on album covers, magazines (with their excellent pull-out posters), and the perfectly timed MTV video (or Friday Night Videos when we didn’t have cable). 😄
@@SnailMailShell oh I know! I was a Jedi Master of both the Boombox and the VCR for pressing “record” at exactly the right time a song came on the radio and MTV. I tapped over some home movies to snag Billy AND A-Ha back to back! Worth every whup! No one loves my brother that much! Haha! 😆

The guitarist, Steve Stevens, as many have already pointed out, is such a spectacular and unique guitarist. This song is a showcase of a few of his more popular licks-- that intro and outtro part is one guitar with a cool "western" finger picking technique that he adapted-- blows my mind every time I see him do it. His rhythm parts aren't your usual power chords following the bass-- they're complimentary chords that move around with the bass to help accent the melody and the rest of the song. And that solo! First part is pure badassery, and the second part that sounds like a weird keyboard is his guitar through a bunch of delay... What a symphony of brilliant guitar work. He also shows up on Ric Ocasek's (RIP) "This Side of Paradise" album in a few places, and you can't help but pick out his iconic sound.
Welcome to Punk Rock! And in the 70's Billy Idol was undoubtedly one of front runners of the Punk Rock revolution. I recommend checking out White Wedding, Mony,Mony, Dancing With Myself, Cradle Of Love, and John Wayne
Billy is a Rock God OG❤ Check out White Wedding ❤🎉. Hot😅 Rocker 😍 us 50 yrs old ❤ him still😂. Im pulling up to the bowling alley blaring this ❤❤❤❤ memories 😊
Loved the reaction, the guitar solo was sweet! If you ever heard of the show 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' the big joke was that the vampire Spike had stolen his look from Billy Idol until Spike corrected the 'Scooby Gang' that Billy Idol had stolen the look from him after Spike let him live because he liked his music. And yes people, Rebel Yell came out the year after Thriller. I remember thinking the same thing that AB said about the jacket at the time. Might be right might be wrong, but they both rocked their versions. So, it's all good.
I saw Billy Idol two weeks ago with opening band 80s Platinum Blonde. Terrific show and both bands still had insanely good vocals after all these years.

White Wedding, Dancing with Myself, Eyes without a Face. Love me some Billy Idol. PunkRockLife!! Steve Stevens is a PHENomenal guitar player. He played on MJ's Dirty Diana and still tours with Billy Idol. He's been in a bunch of bands, but Billy Idol is the most well-known. He's huge on guitar but super tiny at 5ft 6in.
❤LOVED when this song played in the club back in the day. 🎶 🎵 You seemed to have enjoyed Billy’s incredible punk rock energy! Great reaction ….thank you!😊
"White Wedding" is visually very interesting. "Dancing With Myself," and "Eyes Without A Face" were all over MTV back in the day along with this song. He's also famous for that sneer. Whether he got that from the King of Rock, Elvis Presley, I dunno.
Billy Idol had a comeback with Rock the Cradle of Love. After a terrible bike accident. He was in the video only of a big screen video. Still FIRE as usual.
*I saw him live in 1982 when this came out. 🔥 AF! PLEASE react to his "White Wedding" AND "Eyes Without A Face" to appreciate his true range of great vocals!*
Billy was big! But we will never know how big he would have gotten? At his height he crashed his bike and cracked his melon on a curb. It was a long recovery, but he did make the comeback. Another good version of this is with Miley Cirus, I heart radio show. (post comeback).
thank you for playing my Billy. I ACTUALLY KISSED HIS EAR....he was such a gntleman///HE STILL LOOKS GREAT. he lifts weights.....vegetarian and I miss seeing him.....thanks again for your reaction.
That style of dress is Punk from my clubbing days. I wore a lot of leather & spikes...and my hair was shocking purple and spiked. That music made it great to be alive in general, lol. No need for gym memberships, we just got on the dancefloor and kiIIed it! And women like me always hit the clubs on ladies' night...and STILL we walked out with the same money in our pockets as when we got there! Saw BI at a really big club in Houston, and were all smashed up against the stage and never got to dance!
Being able to curl the upper lip on one side like that was important in the London punk scene in 1977. It meant threat and also contempt, provocation. We all knew it from high school playgrounds with teenage boys signalling their readiness to fight, that they were hard, and indeed were "Hards." So it served Billy Idol well as part of the original punk scene that Sex Pistols started, in the band Generation X (long before naming generations like that was thought of) and in his transition to being a rock star a few years later.
Ohh... Love it! Found a version with Miley Cyrus which is awesome! From about 2017 or so... Fantasic! And realised that Miley actually can sing.. Rokn'roll baby!
If you ever heard of the show 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' one of the jokes was that Spike the vampire based his look on Billy Idol until Spike corrected the 'Scooby gang' that Billy Idol had based this look on Spike.
There is another banger by them that is on this level and it's called "White wedding". GTA San Andreas made that song an instant classic to me. So many epic memories listening to that track, playing GTA SA on PS2 🤘

Steve Stevens on guitar. He's a legend. Billy wrote the songs on acoustic guitar, Steve pours on the gasoline. Like I said a LEGEND.
