I have to admit, this is an interesting product due to the DSP being onboard at $200. Steinberg had basic EQ and Compression with their UR series, but this is definitely next level. I am hoping that Presonus brings this to their better offerings in the future (such as a redone Presonus Studio 1810 as an example). They had this functionality in the Presonus Studio 192 mobile and 192, but those interfaces were panned for their overall latency when working in the DAW. I have been using the Audient ID14 mkii and have been using Loopback 2 on my Mac to route my processed audio in Logic Pro X. I use Neutron 3 Advanced for my Discord processing. It is one plugin that essentially does everything to make your voice sound great. Naturally, the latency is higher than this would be probably, but I am sub 5ms which to me is plenty workable. Ultimately, if a product like this would have been available at the beginning of the year, I would have given it a real serious look.
After early December's firmware update, my IO24 has become unreliable. It loses many settings every time I boot my computer, sometimes only the left side of a playback channel goes to the mains, fixing that issue usually requires unplugging it. I've had other problems that led to me installing the drivers from scratch on Windows. I engaged Tech Support and they weren't able to solve it, but instead had me pin my hopes on the next update of Universal Control of the firmware.
@BrodieBrazil I hope all is well, I heard you mention before that PreSonus Revelator io24 will not power DT 770 250 ohm, but I just purchased a pair. Is there a setup that I can use with beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO - 250 & PreSonus Revelator io24?
Great video! The price and what you get is insane. But I kind of wished that they didn't go with a fixed channelstrip. I would rather have the option to switch out the voice effects for another compressor or EQ for example. But again, can I ask something like that for the price? I am looking for something like an Apollo for a while now. I want to get rid of my analog setup. Love the DBX and the multiband compressors. But the space is not worth it anymore and it ultimately doesn't sound that different compared to my 'modern' analog equipment anyway.
Basically you have Apollo or you have Antelope Audio. Those are the players if you want to print DSP effects in your signal chain. If not, you can use Loopback kind of like I am in the setup above.
Can the effects be applied to the overall mix output or just the individual inputs? For example I want to put just a compressor and limiter on the "master" of both my guitar and my backing tracks or windows audio playing via the loopback into OBS?
this is true. but in my setup, it mutes the whole output to the stream. I'm glad you caught this video & just want to invite you to my NEW channel, "Home Studio Pro": brodie.bz/Production
How does this interface compare to something like the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 or PreSonus AudioBox USB 96 in terms of both hardware and software? I'm very new to this type of thing, but as far as I can work out, externally the hardware doesn't seem to be too different on any of these interfaces. As for software, I'm sure they can all do the same basic processing work, so what makes one better than another, if they necessarily are?
I think I can help here. Biggest difference is the Presonus Brodie is talking about has DSP (digital signal processing) built in. This means you can set your high pass filter, EQ, Compress, etc in real time. These are tools that give your audio a more polished or professional sound. The other interfaces are pretty much interface > audio mixer > DAW for processing, etc. they don’t offer the effects, so you must look for other solutions if you want that done before it goes out. The Revelator would certainly be a step above. Of course, if you’re looking for just raw plug and play sound for recording, there are better interfaces in the price range (Audient ID4 mkii, SSL2, Motu M2). If you’re working in your DAW, you’d want one of those 3. If you’re looking to livestream, the Presonus will have you up and running quick with the ability to sound more professional (or at least non amateur) with no latency.
God that Gate function was very impressive, can you live stream this by connecting the audio interface to an iphone via the camera adapter, for UA-cam and Instagram live. Thank you, great channel btw👏
Planning to get one of these to replace my GoXLR Mini. Really trying to avoid VSTs to streamline the process. Haven't had much luck using Reaper VSTs and Voicemeeter. Any thoughts on this versus like a dbx 286?
I've used both. It's kind of splitting hairs. Of course, with the DBX, you still need an interface to run to your PC. If I listen really closely to the files I've done on both (voiceover only), the preamps do sound slightly different on the 2 units; and then, if you're familiar with it, you can pick out that famous DBX over-easy compression, which is pleasing to the ear. The DBX also has a deesser, which this does not. But this has a much more extensive EQ section vs the DBX's simple low & high knobs. All in all, it's kind of a toss-up sound-wise.
@@marketweis I ended up getting the Presonus and love it. Way better than my GoXLR mini. Only problem I"m having is buzzing with the headphone monitor when using lower impedance headphones.
The best display of what this interface can do. I will be definitely be getting this. Quick question, how did you record your video and what software you use for your soundboard.
thanks for checking it out! also: have a look at my new production channel!! brodie.bz/Production Recorded the video thru ATEM Mini Pro... soundboard is Farrago. Videos on both those things at my new channel.
Anyone know of a hardware slider/knob/button controller that works with this thing? Being able to control a couple inputs, outputs, selecting effects, etc with some sliders or whatever would make this thing BEYOND epic! Maybe the PC Panel Pro? Anyone used these together? Or is that what you're using the ATEM Mini for?
yes i have. make a second preset for the mic channel with gain at zero, gain reduction all the way up, and hard limiting at the lowest possible level.. I'm glad you caught this video & just want to invite you to my NEW channel, "Home Studio Pro": brodie.bz/Production
The effects seems somewhat pointless when musicians would prefer reverb types and chorus etc rather than comedy effects which once used become almost immediately redundant
Hello, just a heads up for anyone who buys this. Please DO NOT update the firmware of this device (at least on Win10, not sure about Mac) it causes the settings to be reset every time I restart my PC, and it's incredibly frustrating. A lot of others are also having this problem. It's so annoying! I'm not sure if/when they will fix this. It seems to have been an issue for a while, but I don't think there are any other reasons for it to be happening. If anyone knows a fix, I will love you forever, support aren't doing anything.
It seems this interface is discontinued!??? After only 2 years Presonus is ditching one of the best multi-streaming solutions ever created. Instead of creating a pro version for musicians with better preamps, better connectivity. I am really losing trust in Presonus since Fender acquired the company. Such a shame. I hope Presonus integrates their Stream Mix Software into a new professional DSP interface or even into their Live Mixers. To Make a better Roadcaster Pro like Mixer/Interface solution.

Thank you for emphasizing that the latency is negligible, this is huge for me

I was hoping for a side-by-side comparison of the UAD Apollo compared to the io24 with the same signal chain. (since you mention it in the title 😬)
I might do that on the new channel!

Help a newbie out: Why do they want the XLR plugs in the front instead of putting them on the back? I'm pretty sure I wouldn't need to hotswap 2 mics.
The mute button on the interface is for muting monitors. It does not mute the mic. At least that was how it was explained to me by Presonus support.
this is true. but in my setup, it mutes the whole output to the stream.
