    just ordered one of these myself. they had a major price cut recently bringing the device down to $99 new, and for that kind of money with those features, i figured it's definitely worth a try. looking forward to checking it out!

      How it was?

  • @CaptainJCRage
    @CaptainJCRage 2 роки тому +1

    I've been using it for months now. I'm one of the lucky ones who don't have the self-generated noise coming from the headphone out. It is a great unit MINUS the GATE which for me is useless since I really can hear it cut the signal. I use the DBX 286s in combination with this. The compressor is really good. I made a ticket with presonus asking them to make the universal control compatible with streamdeck since I really don't want to mute my mic using the app but a physical button of the streamdeck. other than what I mentioned it is a very good unit. Using it on my two PC gaming/streaming setup.

  • @Neverwho
    @Neverwho 2 роки тому +8

    Been using this for several months, and from a streamer's perspective I've got several complaints: no keybinding in Universal Control - no way to mute specific channels without alt-tabbing out of the game/DAW or whatever else you were doing. That said, you can control the unit with a android/iOS app, but you NEED a tablet in order to do that comfortably - interface is way too small on the phone. I wish presonus actually made a stream deck plugin. No de-esser. Why though? I don't really care that much for voice changer and would much rather have a de-esser.
    But other that that, it's an amazing unit. Really awesome DSP (and fun fact - you can control all the effects of the on-board DSP with the Studio One DAW, which makes it so much easier to do different presets for different mics), profiles with different Fat Channel settings, scenes with specific gains, mixer slider levels etc, submixes. I do really love the unit tbh. I kinda miss my GoXLR's sliders, but eh, whatever.

    • @Andrewc87563
      @Andrewc87563 2 роки тому

      It has a de-essor. Check your manual. Easier to download the PDF and searxh for it as it's easy missed.
      A go.xlr is way.more expensive to compare against

    • @Neverwho
      @Neverwho 2 роки тому +2

      @@Andrewc87563 Yeah, but then I have to sacrifice compressor to have a de-esser, which is not ideal. I'm talking about dedicated de-esser.
      GoXLR Mini is not that more expensive, something around 20-30$ more.

    • @thefullsetup
      @thefullsetup 2 роки тому +1

      @@Neverwho second that to have a de-esser you have to get rid of compressor. Also when it launched the device had 3 stream mixes one that was dedicate button and they completely removed it. So anyone that got one for three stream mixes had been completely miss sold.
      Since launch I’ve had to drop 3 different loop back tutorial videos due to changes. I’ve also had bunch of issue that after firmware updates with previously saved global saved settings it can cause a bunch of bugs so I have to build them all over again.
      One issues with last two firmware updates is that headphone monitoring volume adjustments do nothing until I change to another mix then back again.
      As for presonus yes they are replacing units and there marketing team contacted me directly to send me a new unit. But I asked them, what’s the actual issue in regards to headphone and Main out noise, can users find out if they have a dodgy unit by serial number, and how do they get a replacement. The answer I was given was we have a some working units in the office, and effected users will need to contact support. So pretty poor in there end even if they are replacing them now.
      I’ve also decided to go through the proper channels to get the original effected unit replaced to see the process and 3 weeks after sending it off still no replacement.
      That being said based on what it offers now and if they can iron out the last few bugs it’s still a great device but the early adopters tax on this device has been a shitty experience.

    My first unit was a dud, but the replacement has worked perfectly so far. The presets are very iffy, especially the compressor in my opinion. I mostly get much better results using manual settings but for someone that doesn't plan to tinker this unit probably isn't a good choice.

    Glad I found your video. Great review. I want to buy one but then I saw its sample rate is only 98khz where eg Motu has 192 Khz so I can have full audio potential on Tidal or other music. Damn I cant decide between them, I stream and listen to music.

    • @Krabin_
      @Krabin_ Рік тому

      Hardly any media has been recorded at sample rates above 96khz, as that is already far past the point of diminishing returns in audio fidelity. 44.1khz and 48khz are all you need, with 96khz just being nice to have.
      For "HIFI" quality, Tidal uses FLAC at 24 bit 44.1khz, and for "Master" quality, it uses MQA, which claims to reach much higher sample rates but in reality has been proven to be absolute BS, it actually measures worse than FLAC. So, use Tidal in "HIFI" quality to listen to music in FLAC, the absolute best audio format imo. In a blind AB test, there is no way a human can tell the difference between a FLAC 24bit 44.1khz file and a WAV file, so enjoy it.
      The actual speakers or headphones used when listening to music matter MUCH more than digital audio format. I would say the speakers and the room they are in or the headphones used make up 80% of the listening experience, with 8% being the amplification used to power said speakers/headphones, 8% being the listener's current state of mind, and the remaining 4% being the source (such as a PC), DAC, digital format, cables (varies), and everything else.
      Which brings me to my next point. Don't worry about something as meaningless as digital format when you are using the integrated headphone amp of a budget audio interface. Budget audio interfaces typically have great analog to digital converters, as their name implies, and their DACs are typically good, but their headphone amps are usually horrible, worse than even the integrated ones on pc motherboards. Treat yourself to a good headphone amp. My recommendation is something like the atom dac+ and amp+ stack or the qudelix 5k. Using the headphone jack of an audio interface is great for monitoring your recording, as there is typically no latency, but not for high-fidelity playback.

  • @INFOXlive
    @INFOXlive Рік тому

    Interesting device for sure. But it has some issues. For first, FAT Channel XT plugin is not part of the deal, which renders unit less useful for Studio One Prime users. They should bundle device with Studio Artist. Another problems is huge limitation of EQ. Maximum gains are between -15 to 15DdB. But for RIAA EQ curve you need at least -25 to 25dB. So you cannot use built in EQ for phono playback. Weirdly, some more cheaper audio interfaces can handle phono signal. Otherwise cool device.

    Thank for sharing. Recently lost my Focusrite 4i4 3rd generation to a Power Surge and was looking for a new comparable AI and for this price with the extras minus the 2 extra inputs would you recommend the io24 or stick with the Focusrite. I am a musician not a Podcaster and will slightly miss those 2 extra ins but for this price I can sacrifice the 2 extras. Also at this price point I've yet to find a reputable company making these budget AI'S with a midi I/O because my new Mini Nova synth hates me right now for getting neglected and I could also use that synth as a 3rd and 4th input due to the fact it has a mic input on the synth and it won't take up one of the 2 main ins. Sorry for the long post but I subscribed and thanks for the review!

    Great video! I have been very disappointed with PreSonus's support. And I can't stress this enough, nor will I supply my laundry list of complaints about that here.
    I'm using a new and very top of the line Mac and as the revelator io24 is a nice device, the software never fully recognized it properly. Their support kept pointing me back to user-error issues, which is quite understandable as most users don't have as much experience as I do.
    I'm taking a risk here but ordered another unit that should be arriving tomorrow. I've dealt with a multitude of support people, both from PreSonus as well as Apple.
    If this soon-to-arrive new unit works as it's supposed to and the software recognizes it, the compressor and EQ and streaming/virtual channels features would be a dream come true device.
    Fingers crossed

      As for the headphone jack. You are totally right. I wish it had XLR on the back and headphone in the front. Would be way cleaner.
